We need some cute Kitty pics to cheer us up

A rare shot of both Teddy and Peach hogging the dog bed.

My cat Marie was lonely so I went to the shelter to get her a kitty. So of course, I came back with two.

They’re already getting along well! Marie is a little rough with the kitten but the kitten keeps coming back for more, so I’m confident they’ll figure it out (under careful supervision!). Especially as the kitten gets bigger.

We got the jellyfish lamp filled and tested. Figaro and Twig were pretty fascinated by it.

Atticus and Marie look like twins and Chloe is a hunk of orange and white gorgeousness!

I see that your cats don’t bother with your plants and that you have a large Bird’s Nest Fern. I would love to see a picture of it showing how large it is. I have a small one that I bought recently and it’s healthy and growing nicely. It’s still in its original pot from the store and I am wondering if I should bump it up a size or not.

I feel like the only good thing to come out of 2023 was bringing Fritz into the house.

Confession time … I’ve been neglecting the fern. It is a bit brown around the edges because I haven’t been as diligent as watering it as I should be. But here’s a pic of the bird’s nest fern with Atticus in the birdwatching spot and Chloe’s ears in the lower corner. I’m planning to repot it this spring.

I have a ton of houseplants. They’re all supposed to be safe for cats but I’ll go ahead and remove them if any of the cats decide to start snacking on them.

Marie has never bothered my plants but Atticus went straight for the spider plants and for the areca palm. So far, he’s left everything else alone (knock on wood!). Chloe hasn’t bothered any of the plants yet. But we’ll see.

Cats. Gotta love them!

How long did it take for it to grow that large?

Marie may not go after your plants but she’s going after Atticus’s tail in the picture!

Your cats are the same as mine, if it doesn’t look like grass they leave them alone.

You have the same bird feeders that I have, do you think they’re as great as I do?

Funny! I hadn’t even noticed Marie sneaking up on Atticus. Silly cats!

I’ve had the fern for a couple of years. I can’t remember what size it was when I first got it but it was fairly big already.

The birds love the feeders and they successfully defeat my squirrels. Though I’m happy to feed the squirrels too, at the tray feeder. (The bird in the tray feeder is a house finch.)

Total threadjack and not a great pic, but here’s a pileated woodpecker at the tail-prop suet feeder (taken at my old house):

And to make it cat-related again, Marie really does think that his tail makes a great toy. Though at that point, she was still wisely getting out of his way when he got too close. Thank goodness he’s been so amazingly tolerant so far.

Marie is a smart girl!

My fern was a $5 baby when I got it. It’s slow growing but has put on some good size.

Oddly enough I have no squirrels at my new house, but the feeders do a great job of thwarting those damn blue jays too. Any other feeder they swoop in and gorge until their crops are full and then take off.

I never thought to get a tail prop suet feeder, I’m assuming they’re made for the larger birds? At my old house I heard pileated woodpeckers all the time and saw them fly over every day. I should have realized they couldn’t fit on the small suet feeder I had.

Yes, the larger birds are often more comfortable on the tail-prop feeders. I never had pileateds at the feeders until I got the tail prop feeder, then I’d get two or three at a time. I found that the red-bellied woodpeckers and Northern flickers also seemed happier with that type of feeder.

I only had one of that type but once the pileateds started coming, they ate from the wire feeder, too. But they definitely preferred the tail prop feeder.

Barn kitties are cozy in the workshop. No interest in the outside world until it warms up, lol.

I let the dog out this evening, and Bug galloped to the door. I told him he did not want to go out. He stood there and sniffed. You know how cats do, and thought about it. I convinced him he did not want to go out and he did not disagree. I do think he is getting a bit of cabin fever. Good old Sam the dog, happily goes out into the frozen tundra and has a pee.
