WEC Premier Equitation Cup

Yes, it was a four stride line. One stopped there, and I believe another stopped at the second jump when she did not have room to get back into a healthy canter. Plus another one had a funky jump after the first halt as well.

Two of the four forgot the final halt after the end jump.

For the previous poster who wondered about the final results after the test, forgetting or skipping a halt would usually be scored as a 50, while a refusal at a jump would be a 40.

In a testing situation, the judges might not give an actual score for the test and add those numbers together with the scores from previous rounds, but they would still follow the basic scoring guidelines for major faults.

At least the kids all seemed to be good sports about it, and the winner got to drive home with a new car anyway. Good for her!

Hi everyone - I’m the mom of one of the riders who tested. It was a tough test, no one was perfect. It is so interesting that the test wasn’t discussed in any media.
However, my daughter said the acoustics in the ring made it difficult to hear the test announced and she did not hear the halt at the end. The first rider halted and the other girls asked if that was correct when she returned to the line. She replied that she didn’t know, but someone shouted at her to halt… the next two did not halt, thinking that the first made a mistake. By the last rider, people in the stands erupted with shouts to halt, and she did! All four did their best and it was a long long day!

Oof. That is very unfortunate.

I was a spectator in the stands, and I could hear the announcer say to halt after the last jump. But I can imagine the loud speakers could have been clearer over there than in the ring.

Thanks very much for providing the additional details. And congrats to your daughter!!

I was surprised the announcer did not ask if any of the riders had any questions before starting the test. Usually they ask knowing that the announcement cannot always be clearly heard.

Not a fan of asking for a halt between two jumps 5 strides apart and then cantering the out. Doesn’t seem fair to the horses and it’s setting the riders up to be rough getting the test done.
