WEG Pix

Well, having downloaded my 400 + pics earlier in the week, I am slowly chipping away at posting them on line to share with friends. Y’all can have a peak too:), so far I have waded through eventing and these can be found at

I’ll try to challenge myself to post jumping, para dressage, vaulting and driving in the next week or so! If I manage to get it done will post the links in this thread in case anyone wants to see. Does take a while to narrow down to better pics and insert captions before I completely lose track of my nearly indecipherable notes…

Thank You! Can’t wait to see more! Loved the last 2 xcountry pics of Andrew Nicholson. Awesome.

Jumping, Speed Class

Posted at http://picasaweb.google.com/100310658467918237790/WEGJumpingSpeedClass#

I will not bet the ranch on the accuracy of all captions owing to indecipherable notes ($100 bucks worth of tix per person for the class, but alas, they ‘had no’ dailies…didn’t specify whether they sold out or just plain didn’t have any).

But I think I got most of 'em right. Plus I just wanted to throw up pics of people most of us never heard of, because, by golly, they qualified for the WEG and did well.

Cool photos. And now I know what that bourbon barrel jump looked like from the front. Didn’t realize there were so many barrels.

There is an order of go on the WEG site. For a brief moment in time, they had one up that included the colors of the horses which was quite helpful for IDing photos. I also googled horse and rider combos to get photos for comparison and zoomed in on flags on saddle pads. There weren’t any day sheets that day because the previous night’s practice run ran late. The order of go didn’t appear online until the morning of the event, as opposed to the night before which was the case for other events.

Here’s a few of the (300 I think) pics I took at the CDE Marathon.

Beautiful driving pics! Now of course I’ve been mesmerized watching yours instead of posting more of mine, but I’ll keep chipping away at it…

BTW I did, as a Texan by birth, really like Mike McLennan’s helmet covers! Plus the cutting-horse-guy turned driver background.

Para Dressage

Levels 1a and 1b:

Sadly, picture quality not great, my cheapie camera just doesn’t cut the mustard indoors or at night. But I’ve posted a few. Also sadly, cannot find my undecipherable notes for this event, but when I do will go back and post captions.

Maybe manana will tackle the large file of team jumping final pix…

yes, my lens just doesn’t have the chops to do low light and action. You have to pick one or the other.

Here’s a slideshow of mine of the marathon. I was running scores so had to grab some in between pick ups <g> Plays best if you load it first

That was awesome.

The stone garden really did have the best opportunities for good shots, didn’t it? Although I loved the light in spook hollow

awww you guys are killing my productive day at home!

What an insane treat!!! Thank you thank you thank you - it totally brings back the thrill and emotion of standing there that day!!

DLee said the same thing about the light at Spook Hollow. That hazard had a whole lot of appeal - it must have been fun to design.

I am so glad that I decided to go that day - it was all last minute and thanks to the CoTHers for tips on the tickets and Lextran!! Split gas, the $22 tix and a bourbon ale and it was the best $50 day I’ve ever had.

lol pony grandma I just spent most of my day in DMK’s gallery. The light and dust in Spook Hollow is amazing and you captured it beautifully, DMK! I was assigned to 4,5,6,7 on the other side of the park and didn’t get to see it. Your shots were as good as being there. Thanks!

Thanks for the driving photos. Interesting see how the obstacles actually got used after seeing them hang out during eventing. If I ever get to another WEG I plan to be there for the driving.

I had camera issues in the dark too. My reining photos all look artistically blurry. We were there for the exhibition and the lights were pretty much out with spotlights on the horses (Anky - and that was one of the better ones). I got good photos the night we watched the dressage freestyle run-thru and we were down close to the ring (Totilas/Edward), tho I got more blurring than during the day. Not so much the next night when we were up in the stands and there was a bigger difference in lighting between where I was and where the subjects were (Warum Nicht/Isabell - this horse is walking and the feet are still blurry). I did take the camera out of sport mode and went to shutter priority and played around with it a bit, not really knowing what I was doing. Hadn’t practiced that with the camera.

Ooh. I like your terminology.

Here are artistically blurry pix of Jumping Team Final:

And, some random pics of the Kentucky Horse Park:

Ooooh, “artistically blurry” … that’s a MUCH better term for @#*~! too slow lens without enough f stop range!!!

What’s worse is I went on B&H’s site, and for $769 I can fix those problems. This coincides with the realization that I have almost $0 in credit card debt. Step AWAY from the keyboard, DMK…

Guess I spent too much time hanging out with the RISD crowd while at Brown:winkgrin:. I figured the new camera and two lenses were a sufficient ding to the credit card this time around; however, I’m having quite a bit of fun with the camera and might try to justify a lens purchase in the future.
