WEG Pratoni 2022

I actually think this is representative of one of the best parts of eventing. Everyone can wear whatever they want (though for championship events the men usually try to agree and so do the women to appear united as a team), and they can be as formal or relaxed or “girly” or “manly” or whatever-other-term-people-might-want-to-throw-at-them as they want, and none of it affects their ability to ride their pants (or skirts, as the case may be) off on the field of play.

Tamie Smith jogged up in a purple skirt because she felt like wearing a purple skirt? Sure, but she still threw down a dressage test 10 marks lower than Boyd and left more show jumps up than Oliver, so she wins. Pants, skirts, and whatever is under them be damned - in eventing, you win or lose on merit, and nothing else. I love it, and I’m proud of it.

I don’t really mind it so much when people are competing as individuals, although sometimes the less practical choices confound me.

I guess my gut feeling seeing the women’s coordinated outfit for WEG Pratoni 2022 would be, I would loved to have seen something that 1) would give nod to an athletic endeavor (as opposed to something you would wear to a night out with friends) and 2) something in USA colors.

I’m a little hyper-sensitive to Men= Athletes and Women=Pretty to Look At dynamic that plays out over all sporting events.

This is fair, and I feel similarly (as I’m sure you can tell), but I’d encourage you to think of this a bit differently in this case. No Olympic clothing coordinator (or whoever usually does this) picked out these clothes for them and decided that the men got to look like athletes and the women were required to look pretty. The teams usually go out shopping for jog outfits together, and pick something they all like, at their own discretion.

If the women felt like wearing something pretty, they shouldn’t be prevented from doing so just because the men felt like a different look. Sure, they do look lovely - and they’ll look just as lovely on top of the podium, because allowing themselves to enjoy clothing that appeals to them won’t mitigate their athletic prowess one bit. “Girly girls” can be just as badass out on cross-country, even if they have painted nails under their gloves. That’s really cool, and something to celebrate

No comment on the USA colors, only to say that if every country subscribed to that theory there would be some truly blinding looks on the jog strip.

yeah I cancelled my CMH last week and I see I have a $200 charge from them on my Paypal lol great

I get it if you would prefer the team to have representative colors in there, or more coordinated looks overall. Fair when they are going as a team.

But based on your description of a purple skirt, fedora, and dressed for a night out, I was not expecting her very professional outfit of a black turtle neck and pencil skirt. I’m an attorney, and even in the most conservative offices I’ve worked at that would be considered work-appropriate and professional (and I don’t know many wearing black turtle necks for a night out?)

I believe, from the COTH pictures, that all the women representatives wore the same outfit, so I wasn’t singling any one rider out.

The Chronicle of the Horse (chronofhorse.com)

It’s a fine outfit for a corporate office. I didn’t make any comments about it not being work appropriate or not conservative.

My initial impression was that it was not an outfit that made me immediately think 1) Serious International Athlete 2) USA.

Also, I did not realize that athletes had any input in the team wear. I assumed (like the Olympics) that there was some coordinator that thought - “hey neat, let’s put the women in skirts and fedoras”.

You referenced the men’s outfits as “professional looking,” and the women’s as “something you would wear to a night out with friends.” I was picturing something very different based on those comments.

I wonder if some entity or entities sponsored the jog outfits for the US. I know Lauren usually wears sponsored outfits along the lines of what the US ladies wore today - maybe her sponsor sponsored them all? The Canadian women were also wearing coordinated “work-ish” looking outfits not in team colors.

ETA: Per lauren’s social media, the US women’s jog outfits were sponsored by Hound & Hare.

Myself, I like the German and Spanish horses’ browbands!

The British team looked very uniform, sponsored by Fairfax & Favor so the boots are great.

I thought the British team were turned out beautifully.

I’m confused. White button downs and trousers = Serious International Athlete, but black turtleneck doesn’t?

I think the American ladies looked awesome! Stylish, put together, no extra fabric flopping all over - but obviously eye of the beholder and all that…

Yes, to me the American men are always so boring. I was pleasantly surprised at how fun and stylish and channeling an Italian spirit the American women were.

Re the ClipMyHorse subscription, I was more careful than I usually am reading the verbage when I signed up for the trial. It sounded to me like this subscription, unlike some others, gives you the 30 day free trial, but if you don’t cancel before the 30 days are up, you are on the hook for the next 12 months i.e. it’s not a month-to-month deal that you can cancel in any month.

thanks for the tip. I was going to keep it for Boelkelo, but maybe I won’t

I guess they wouldn’t let Boyd wear his American flag suit :joy:

Lauren posted on social media they were all outfitted by Hound and Hare who normally outfits her for all her jogs.

Well, even though I have paid for a month, I am required to pay for a year to get ANY video. It shows I have an account, but will not let me watch

Clip My Horse - it took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to login, then I forgot which email I used, but finally got it right. I missed Hawley’s test, but I think her score is respectable.

Anyone else watching? The first German horse had a dreadful test as he Would. Not. Trot. He wanted to canter. He still managed a 32. The feed seems a bit jerky.
