Western Boot Suggestions

Well, my paddock boots finally wore out, and when I went to try on a new pair of Ariats, I hated them (and I tried every model in the store!). They were very stiff and uncomfortable. Then I learned that they are now being made in China! Like just about everything else, I guess.

I would like some boots to wear to the barn, and I don’t need to ride in them, since I always wear my tall boots.

So I was thinking of looking at some western/cowboy boots, since I’ve always wanted a pair. Any suggestions/favorite brands for comfort and some degree of durability? Nonleather would be good, but the only ones I’ve tried have been very uncomfortable or they fall apart quickly. Made in the US would be a plus. I thought of looking at the Ariats, since they are cute, but I thought they might not be any better than the paddock boots. Thanks in advance!

I have Anderson Bean boots for my everyday riding boots when I’m riding western. I love the fit, and they’re super comfortable. I have four pairs of Lucchese boots that I adore, but they are pricey.

I have 3 pair of Ariat western boots. 2 pair of lace ups and a pair of Pro Babys. I love, love, love them. Also have the Terrains and Telluride H2Os for icky winter wear (mud). I use the heck out of all of them and they have held up well over several years. And are so comfy I can wear them all day riding or walking.

I understand that they aren’t alway so comfortable for everyone tho. Different feet builds don’t sit as well with them.

I looooooooove my Boulet boots.

I have these and they are the most comfortable boots I have EVER owned! Very lightweight and comfortable to be in all day long. They don’t have the best gripping tread (they are the crepe soul) so don’t expect to stay standing on slippery snow or ice!

I love Tony Lama boots. I currently own this pair: http://www.tonylama.com/en/gals_3r.html?424fccf8=33579

If green isn’t your thing (as most people think I’m crazy for owning lime green boots) they come in a lot of other colors: http://www.tonylama.com/en/gals_3r.html I love the look of the white ones. They hold up great. I have been riding in mine at least 3 times a week for 2 years and wear them all day long and they are still holding up like new.

Also, whenever you get the urge to tuck your jeans into your boots just.don’t.do.it.

I have a pair of Ariat ProBaby’s that are as comfortable as slippers and also a pair of Ariat Caballera’s http://www.onlineshoes.com/womens-ariat-caballera-weathered-brown-p_id221222?adtrack=gpa&term=Women’s+Ariat+Caballera&offer=

The Caballera’s are almost as comfortable as the ProBaby’s* and are absolutely adorable. I clean them up and wear them to the Rodeo each year.

*Both pairs of my Western Ariats are much more comfortable in the foot bed than my MH dress boots.

The reinforced toe cap on the ProBaby’s saved me from a severe injury when a huge draft stepped on my foot - gave me just enough time to curl my toes out of the way.

I’ve worn the heck out of both pairs (cleaned stalls, washed horses in them, etc…) and they’ve held together very well.

First step in getting western boots is to get fitted properly as every style fits differently and so does every brand. I can only recommend Tony Lama and Justin because there is no way in hell I can get into either Boulet or Ariat - with the latter two, I am into a men’s 10 before I can almost get my foot through the throat and I wear women’s 6.5. I would LOVE a pair of Boulet - they are elegant, can still get real riding heels on them, and they are tough, but not for people with a high instep. So shop around, and get fitted by someone who knows how to do the job

tony lama.
have had my riding boots since 1986 with HARD WEAR, resoled a bunch of times, patched, best.boots.ever.

hated ariats. have several pairs of TL for riding now, big sorels for barn work (put the toe heaters in them!:))

I’ve had 3 ( currently 2 ) pairs of these Twisted X All Around:

My all time favorite. I have other western boots, but these are the most comfortable for day to day riding and chores.

Love my ariat ropers. Wear them all day at day job, have a pair I wear around the farm… broke that pair in hiking in the rockies. Love em.

Did you try on the Ariat Tellurides or Terrians? I just got a pair of the Tellurides and they are the most comfortable shoes ever - no break in period and waterproof too. Love them.

I have a great pair of Justin’s that I love. They have a square toe and pretty aqua colored uppers. I’m of the philosophy that a western should really have a nice pretty colored upper

I have the exact same boots, and love 'em. Comfy and durable.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I do have a pair of Ariats that I think are terrains, but they get pretty beat up at the barn.

For those of you who have Lucchese’s - I tried on a pair, and they fit well (snug, not tight) but they felt like I had a golf ball in my instep. Is that normal, or were they too small, or might they just have too much arch support for my foot??

Good looking boot! I’ll have to try

I hate Ariat English boots, but I love my Ariat Probabys. They’re extremely comfortable and I have several pairs. The newest pair is my every day pair, then there’s the riding pair, then there’s the messy chores pair. I wear mine like sneakers in cooler weather. They’re what I wear to school every day, shopping, etc.

Go try on some Justins. They are made in AMERICA, not cheap Chinese crap, and they have a “Roper” style similar to paddock boots.

I love my Justin boots! They are very comfortable and look good. I am on my 2nd pair. My first pair lasted 3 1/2 years and this pair is almost 3 years old which is amazing for me because I wear them everyday. I had a couple pair of Ariats and they were comfortable but they just didn’t last very long.

I got a pair of Justin Gypsy’s for christmas - they’ve been through wet, snow, on and off horses and still look pristine. Some Justins are made in China though (these are) the quality and comfort is still amazing though.
