A woman I know whose daughter rides with my trainer, is English. She and her American husband lived in England when they were first married and she says that even with her job as an air traffic controller and his as a doctor (I believe), there is no way they could have afforded their daughter’s horse, lessons and competition expenses.
Daughter rides CT and those expenses aren’t anything like what H/J are, and she’s limited to about one competition a month during the spring and fall seasons (with exceptions, like when she qualified for championships).
I don’t know how the dollar figures compare, but I found her remarks enlightening and not what I expected.
