What black breast plates do you like for dressage?

What black breastplates do you like for dressage? Is a 5pt too “busy”? What about the PS of Sweden “high five?” https://www.psofsweden.com/en/breast-plates/breastplate-high-five

Bonus if it comes in cob! I was hoping Lund has their 4pt breast collars in black, but no dice. I’m not a super fan of the standard 3 point, but looks like that’s probably my best option…

Last I heard, Lund was really close to debuting their plain black 4 point collar. Maybe check with them and see what the estimated date is?

I have been looking at this one. https://www.ffequestrian.com.au/dressage-breastplate-black.html

It is basically a polo breastplate with gel padding. I ordered a polo breastplate in black, but it is too small for my horses – even my 15.2 mare.

I like the PS bridge breastplate, but I also LOVE a nice black polo breastplate for dressage.

ack! I am trying to get rid of tack and now you have me googling breastplates! chaching!

Shows you how uninformed I am! I didn’t know you could use a breastplate in dressage!

Love, love, love this one: https://www.devoucoux.com/eu/en/boutique/produit/leather-breast-collar#.WekQeVtSyUk

I use this one mine: https://www.bitofbritain.com/Nunn-Finer-Jumper-Breastplate-p/0059.htm

Forgive my ignorance but what do you need a breastplate for in dressage?

For me, it is knowing my saddle will not end up under their belly. My current mare has a “delicate” girth groove and I use a very soft, very stretchy girth to keep her from chafing so I just like the extra security. I used a breastplate on my last mare who was very round and could go 10 feet sideways in under 1/100th of a second with no warning – lateral airs above the ground.

Thanks for the explanation.

My first thought when I started your post was about the high five PS one… it appears as though the strap down between the legs can be removed too?

if you get it, let me know how small it can go from billet to billet or billet to centre… I want one for pony!!

I was hoping that was the case!!! I want to ditch the center strap… I was thinking of holding out for the black Lund, I’m not convinced on the quality/softness of the Lund leather yet and I do have a ps of Sweden bridle, so at least there I know what I’m getting. Besides. I want it ASAP.

If it goes small enough for my guy, it should fit your pony. I think she’s broader.

I had the PS of Sweden size 2 (cob) on both my 14hh chunky cob and 15.3hh fine little wb/tb

is the center strap removable? Sounds like it will fit.

Yes it is!

I personally wouldn’t use that PS breastplate for dressage. Way too busy and not flattering to the horse. It is essentially the same as a polo breastplate with connections to the Ds as well so doesn’t give you any more security.

Lund is Sedgewick leather.

I used to have a PS High Five and agree with CatchMeIfUCan… it’s a big busy hunk of leather for dressage.

I like a thin polo breast plate such as the Nunn Finer.

Or the three point black leather one from Nunn Finer.

IMO anything more than a 3 point or polo breastplate is just way too busy and too much to look at! Save the 73-point breastplates for XC when the extra stability is really needed.

I have an old adjustable Bobby’s traditional 3-point breastplate that I really like. Simple, and just the right width that it didn’t overwhelm a refined TB I had but didn’t look like dental floss on my burlier TB.
