What bloodlines specifically do you like to see in your TB sporthorse?

I had this grand son of Forty Niner by Gold Fever

http://www.pedigreequery.com/seeker4

Is a nice event horse with is current owners (at the ** level now). Had a nice enough jump for the hunters and could have shown on the line. Very classy. But there was a lot that I liked in his pedigree besides just Forty Niner.

I love the Key to the Mint, Hawaii, Swaps, Turn-to and Buck passer
partial to my mare http://www.pedigreequery.com/saturday+nite+lady

Actually, a whole lot of us like Frosty the Snowman because of the Diplomat Way.

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to see a mention of Frosty the Snowman. My last horse was by Frosty the Snowman and I had never heard nor seen him mentioned anywhere.

I’m tearing up now because I had to put him down right before Christmas. The greatest compliment that I can give my Sam was that he had a phenomenal work ethic- I never could fault him for lack of try. Oh, he could jump too!

Here is the new guy:

He’s got the Turn-To and Sir Ivor, but I don’t know much more about his lines. Oh, he’s got Halo, that I have read was a nightmare to handle. My horse, much to my dismay, is kind of a push ride, but I do enjoy hacking in the fields with a bi-plane doing loops and what not over head and my horse walking quietly on the buckle back to the barn:D.

I saw a bunch of horses (and owned one) made of these pedigrees:

stallion:

two dams:

no wonder I love Turn-to. right!?!

I look for Turn-to, Sir Gaylor, Hoist the Flag.

My stallions of love interest:

Roc USA

I have always given the Buckpasser (and Buckfinder) breeding the credit for Claim to Fame’s lovely head and neck…and my homozygous stallion, Counterclaim, is line bred to him on both sides!
Both are as sweet as they come! I don’t remember Claim to Fame EVER bucking…and he is soo comfortable to ride…
When I first got into breeding I rember Terry Brown, of Showcase LTD. bragging on the Buckpassers in the Hunter industry today too…

Interesting, DMK! Thanks for that info. We’re probably going to list Sailors Port before the meet ends…if I don’t snatch her up, anyway! The trainer wanted to run her again, but I didn’t see her in this weekend. She’s a neat looking horse, if a bit on the smallish side at about 15.3, and lightly built.

Interesting thread …

Florida Foxhunter, I love your guys and now you mention the Buckpasser, I can sure see it …

Here’s the only TB mare I have …
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/lawdy+lottie

I don’t know a lot about the TB lines, but I think she is more of the old bloodlines, she is heavier boned, shorter back …she came up open this year; but I am hoping to get a foal out of her and will try again next year…

Anecdotally, all of the Whiskey Wisdoms I have heard of have exceptional brains. The mare I’m riding was born broke and looks like an old style TB: tall, good bone and big, swinging, elastic gaits. I’d definitely look for this line if I were looking for another TB.

This is the mare:

Bumping this fun thread up. I had a gorgeous, talented grandson of Lyphard that I adored. Horse was dumb as a post but endearingly so. I’d love to hear more about his distant relatives and learn if this particular, uh, quirk was common.

What the heck, here’s his pedigree…

Holderman

I’ve tried to relocate this guy on and off for ages. Probably gone by now.

I’m no guru but like others love to study the pedigrees of the horses that catch my eye… I fall for Wild Again descendants pretty frequently.

Lyphard was the grand sire of Von Csadek…one of the best Timber horses ever. He was also a good open jumper. And a very smart horse.

His dam sire was Hawaii. Good lines…hard to find up close now a days.

their Roc USA filly and their A Fine Romance colt -nose to nose.

ok Linnea, I’m going to jump in your thread

I am thinking of (and probably will) breed my mare to Fox Haven Farm’s stallion once I can get my husband to come around LOL

what do you all think? I’m a tb girl so dont want a wb stallion, and FHF’s stallion is a really nice guy, great temperament, one of those where you wouldn’t know he was a stallion unless you looked

In the case of Lyphard for sport horses, I would give a LOT of credit to his dam, Goofed. She has a superlative French pedigree with a huge number of horse who have consistently produced for sport.

I rescued this boy on Saturday from Mike’s Auction in Chino, CA. Paid $150. He will be gelded tomorrow. He is kind, big (at least 16.3), clean legged, and moves very well. Needs lots of weight but I think they is a very nice horse here. http://www.pedigreequery.com/snettisham. Excited to see the Lyphard there based on the recent posts.

I have similar taste as several others here apparently

Buckpasser
Court Martial
Hail to Reason (Turn-To)
His Majesty (Ribot)
Hyperion
Nasrullah
Native Dancer
Northern Dancer
Nearco
Ribot
Tudor Melody
Turn-To

-Gigha

I tried to diversify our TB lines a bit in the current mare base we have. Close in the pedigrees we have:
Pericles
Lucky Boy
Abgar (granddaughter)

Have crossed them with:
Solaris
Sacramento Song

Looking to add - Cottage Son and/or Ladykiller next year. Try to keep an influential TB (or two) in the first 3-generations of the pedigree if possible.

I have this mare. Good mover and jumper. She’s likely going to make someone a nice UL eventer or young rider horse. Also very smart.

That mare has a lovely sport horse pedigree. She’s the type that should be used for breeding.

Found a broodmare by Mizzen Mast for sale on CL, in foal to Mustanfar (a son of Unbridled out of a Lyphard mare).

What do you think of this hypothetical foal?

Still waiting on pics of the mare. I haven’t seen Mustanfar myself, nor any of his offspring, so I don’t really know what he throws. But I like him on paper.

Thoughts?

I’m only toying with the idea of this mare, mostly as a companion to my pregnant mare/future foal…they were bred around the same time. The fact the mare is young enough to retrain as a riding horse, and may produce a foal with some sporthorse potential just piques my interest. Not sure how serious I am about the whole deal yet.

I really like this pedigree too.

this was my Bailjumper son out of a Hawaii daughter–great mind, good looking, good jumper and good mover. He was schooling preliminary right before we sold him.
