My TS breeches feel so heavy and hot. Any ideas for low rise breeches that are cooler that TS - no pull ons please. Thanks for any ideas.
I tried on some TS breeches recently, but they were too long, and the velcro strap at the bottom is too bulky to fold over.
I ended up buying some Tredstep symphony breeches instead and I love those. They don’t feel heavy at all. You might want to give them a try.
Pikeurs.
Ahhh… this is the never-ending battle of “I need breeches that are thin enough so I don’t feel like I’m suffering from a mild heat stroke” and “These are so thin, every lump and bump is being shown … and I swear they are creating more than I have!”
I will be following this thread so I have some ideas on how to survive showing this summer. The TS Trophy Hunters, on me at least, get really clingy and unflattering whenever you sweat in them.
Animo and Pikeur

Animo’s are very expensive. At $20,359 for a pair. I can’t afford them.
Edited to say, $20,000 of that is the plastic surgery necessary to fit in them.
Romfh international breeches. Breathable and cool, and decent color selection (beige is a very light tan, the mocha - which looks awful in online pics - is actually a really nice taupe, and the dark pearl is a dark steel gray). These are my faves and can be found for under $100 pretty often
The Devon-Aire Versailles breeches are very inexpensive, comfortable, and light-weight. The fabric is smooth and very nice against the skin. They are my favorite summer breeches, and I live in south Georgia, so I know what hot is. I like the regular rise, but they do come in low rise:

I include the Dover link so you can read the customer reviews.
P.S. Just noticed that the sizes and colors are different on the low-rise. The regular rise have traditional sizes. Looks as if the fabric is the same, though.
I live in South Alabama, so I understand your pain! I bought some Kerrits hunter green tights on consignment, and they are great for the heat! They are thin, slinky, super stretchy soft breeches. Yes, they show every single imperfection, but I love them for schooling.
I hate TS with a passion. I have one pair for showing that are 3 sizes bigger than my usual size, but getting into them is still a pain. Especially in the tiny dressing room of a trailer that is 100 degrees.
Interesting - I find the Romfh breeches VERY grabby in the fabric, especially in the thigh area. I really wanted to like them, and the colors are very nice, but I find the TS fabric more forgiving and breathable than the Romfh. The Romfh also seems to be made for the stick figure, which I am not…
This is going to sound very counter-intuitive, but I actually swear by wearing the FITS Wunderbreeches under your TS. I started doing it just for shows under my beige TS, and liked the fit and feeling so much, that I wear them all the time now. You would think adding another layer would make you burn like a furnace, but it actually is much cooler - I’ve worn that combo at horse shows in Atlanta where it was 95 degrees and muggy as a steam room, and I didn’t sweat through my breeches at all…I tried the Kerrits slender rider capri, but they don’t have nearly the same cooling effect.
Just a thought…
Are we talking show breeches here? Or schooling ones? The Versailles breeches I recommended above are what I would call handsome everyday breeches. I would certainly wear them to a clinic or lesson, even some shows. DD has a beige pair she wore to 4H state a few years ago when it was unbearably hot, and they looked really nice in the pictures. They don’t compare to TS or the other premium brands as show breeches, though.
I have a pair of TS breeches called “Trophy Hunter Schoolers”. Low rise, side zip. I bought them on sale on the Internet a couple of years ago, but can’t remember where, and I can’t seem to find them. I love them in the summer, they fit just like Trophy Hunters, but are a much lighter fabric. I wish I could find some more, I’ve been looking.
Tuffrider Aerocool - and if you hate them you only wasted like $40.

I have a pair of these, and I have to say I don’t like them at all for hot-weather wear. They fit fine, but the fabric just crawls on my skin when I sweat. They are called Aerocool, but I can only wear them in cold weather.
Thank you for all of the replies. I need them for schooling in very hot, humid Florida. The TS Trophy Hunters just seem unbearable. I also need low rise, even the TS low rise are over my ribs…
I will try and find the Trophy Hunter Schoolers. I do prefer front zip - but will do side zip for ones that are lighter and low rise.
I have a pair of the Equine Couture Champion Coolmax side-zips that I love. I have the same issue with swamp weather riding. They’re pretty nice but sometimes I feel like that Seinfeld episode where George has the noisy suit, because the fabric makes some noise when I walk. But they fit well, and they keep me pretty cool. And I got them on sale through Zulily.

I do this at shows, too, so I look better. I thought they would make me very hot (I’m in middle TN), but really they do not. I don’t do it at home, because I ride alone. So I don’t care if my horse sees my imperfections. haha.
I do school in breeches at home that have Coolmax and it helps. I have some Ovations and I have some Equine Couture that I like. Along with the heat, I hate when they show sweat, so that’s an issue I deal with as well. The E.C.s work well for that, too. I don’t know what model, though! Sorry.
I am not a Kerrits fan generally (prefer my breeches to look like breeches) BUT I have to say that I tried on a pair of the “crossover” breeches the other day and the fabric is very lightweight and seemed cool! Did not actually ride in them so cannot comment on that. But they have a more traditional front zip styling and pockets and cute colorblocking.
I also constantly stalk eBay for the old Ariat All-Circuits - my local tack store actually has a few pairs still in stock - IMO that was the best ultra-hot-weather breech, at least for here in CA where we have dry heat!
I tried on a pair of the EC Coolmax side zips as well and liked them very much. Would have bought them except was looking for non-tan-schoolers and they only come in tan/beige from what my tack store owner told me.
The new Dover Uptown breeches are really nice. I just bought two pairs and wore them for the first time the other day in hot humid weather and they felt great! They are under $70 a pair and I think right now on sale for $64!

Another brand I like are the Pipers by Smartpak. I have always had TS and loved the fit, but found these cheaper alternatives and love them. Plus they come in fun colors for schooling
I don’t find my hot weather breeches flattering AT ALL, but some days it’s so hot that I just have to avoid looking in the arena mirrors … and hope that no one else is at the barn at the same time as me.
I school in Devon-Aire Versailles or Tropical Rider pull-on breeches. The Tropical Riders are more like tights and I hate how they look, but they are very light. They were kind of expensive and I don’t think I’d buy them again.
I’ve found the Devon-Aire Versailles on sale a few times and picked them up for a decent price. They’ve lasted me a few summers, and I ride in them and wash them a lot. Their durability has exceeded my expectations and I’d definitely buy them again at the right price.
For showing, I love the Tredstep Symphony Rosa breeches.
