What breed of cat do you have?

I always see a lot about the various breeds of dogs people own but never cat breeds. So if you have a particular breed of cat show us!

What made you get the particular breed?

Do you show your cat at all?

And…pictures?

So I guess I can start. I have two altered Sphynx boys. After getting my first kitten home I was in love. He was nothing like any cat I had ever had or been around. He has the goofiest personality. I have accidentally spoiled him rotten and he has me trained but he is the light of my day.

This is him at 4 years old.

Then I moved to finish school and for the first time in his life he did not have another cat buddy in his life and he became a Stage 5 Clinger. Ugh. I eventually got another Sphynx kitten who is so much alike and yet so different from the first. He is hard to keep up with, is the biggest lovebug I have every seen, and has a wild streak a mile wide.

I do not show them although I am getting things together to possibly show them next year. Nothing to win just to gain experience with hopes of getting a show alter at some point.

.

I have the Showsupatmybackdoorskinnyandhowling breed. I wasn’t aware I’d put up a sign outside, but they seem to find me. On the bright side, they make great indoor-only pets.

You’ve got cuties, Rudy.

I own an American Shorthair named Lilly. While she is not a show cat (and never will be - she’s nearly 14), her father was a GCH and her mother was a CH. I decided to go with a reputable breeder and a purebred cat after my beloved mutt domestic shorthair, Lemieux, broke my heart when he lost his eleven year battle with a lifelong autoimmune disease. I started researching the healthiest cat breed out there, and the American Shorthair kept popping up! I got Lilly when I was in college, and she traveled the 600+ miles back and forth with me (via plane and car) on multiple occasions. She’s not a cuddly cat (my pound cat is much friendlier), but she’s a one person cat who discreetly follows me everywhere in the house.

Her pretty markings - American Shorthairs are commonly used in commercials and print ads because they look like “average” cats with more exotic markings.

The best breed! An orange tabby, my first long haired cat. He is the best cat ever. I love an orange cat, the LH makes him even better. He wandered up and we adopted him, no regrets what so ever.

Crosby is a ragdoll. He’s a pain in the ass. He didn’t read the manual. But he’s beautiful and funny, if nothing else…

Wow Rudy, I LOVE your cats! I’ve always wanted a Sphinx, but I have never been able to choose my cat, they’ve all chosen me.

I currently have three cats who have chosen me: an extremely petite female grey English tabby shorthair, who was found at a local riding trail as a kitten; a male grey tabby longhair who I’m convinced is part Maine Coon, given his massive size (he’s 17 lbs and not at all fat) and insanely thick coat; and the most recent member of the household, a large (12 lbs) female calico domestic longhair who was dumped where I work.

Here they are from last year’s Christmas card photo. Ham, the shorthair female is top left; Willa, the longhair female is top right; and Big D is passed out on the bottom.

In the past I’ve had Siamese and Turkish Angora cats, as well as a plethora of mixed breed cats.

Breeds…???

Here’s my current indoor gang yesterday watching me have a turkey sandwich. I refuse to eat under attack, and they know it, but they were a most attentive audience while waiting.

Left to right, Tenuto, Coda, and Pilgrim. Tenuto and Coda are both official Siamese, purebred. Pilgrim is the formal-attired edition of a street cat.

I got into Siamese about 20 years ago. Mom had always had cats of all sorts as I was growing up, just whatever showed up at her door. I’ve never gotten away from the shelter/street/former hobo variety, but I just wanted a “real” Siamese. So I got Sabra, the most remarkable cat I’ve ever had, and I doubt she’ll ever be topped. She was one in a million. All pictures of her on disk and not accessible via work computer, unfortunately.

After Sabra died in 2005, I started looking for another Siamese, with my one criteria on breeder’s questionnaires being “anything except chocolate.” I did not want another cat that looked like her and wasn’t. So then came HRH Rosalind, a fabulous character and utter diva. She wasn’t Sabra, but she, too, was one of a kind. Still miss her and her grumpy ears and expressions. She just died this year.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk8/dressagetraks/RosalindEnthroned.jpg

Tenuto has an abundance of whateveritude, and she is the one that I take to the nursing home now and then to see Mom. Cats in general aren’t as suited to those visits as dogs, but Tenuto is wonderful.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk8/dressagetraks/PaulettewithTenuto761213_zpsa2f702d7.jpg

Coda is the petite version, barely 5 pounds, but she is simply exquisite.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk8/dressagetraks/DSC07249.jpg

I don’t show them, no time, but if I did, Coda would be the one. Tenuto has a slightly deformed eye that knocks her off standard. Coda’s breeder has wished that I would show her a few times.

Pilgrim, the newest edition, is a scientist. He must investigate Every. Single. Thing. All cats are curious, but he is analytical.

I enjoy maintaining a mixed pride. The Meezers add some spice to it all. Outdoors, the barn cats are exclusively hobo/shelter/wanderup.

Mine is a Weld County Humane Society special. We suspect he may have some American Shorthair and possibly some bengal in him. Either way he’s a pretty boy and such a character.

I have strays haha. 3 torties and an orange tabby. 2 have short coats and 2 have more medium coats. Love them to death, 2 of them are super cuddly always in your lap types.

I have no idea:yes: I have the following:

a fat x fluffy x probably inbred x inherited-from-deceased-relative-cat-hoarder

a she-was-found-in-the-woods-we-were-suckered-into-taking-her

an accidental child of the found-in-the-woods-cat x unknown-neighborhood-tom

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n242/bronnybear/kitties.jpg

Just to clarify, the short-haired tux is the baby of the brown tabby. No relation to Fat Black Fluffy Cat, although they look a lot alike.

DoubleClick, your kitty looks a LOT like my tabby, different face though. Do you think she could be a Shorthair? http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n242/bronnybear/katie-1.jpg

All these beautiful moggies!

I have a black and white moggy that my husband brought home from work - they found it, just a few days old, in the factory. Mother no where in sight. I raised him up and now his name is Monty and he’s at THAT stage of kittenhood. I do a lot of fostering of kittens and usually they would have gone to their new homes by now, but this time I was outvoted by my husband and Turtle.

I also have a Sphynx, Turtle. She loves her buddy Monty and she is the best cat ever. I don’t know how I could ever not have a Sphynx now.

Proud owners of 5 including:
Paidwaytoomuchforsomeone’s mistake. According to the clerk at the pet store who breeds(eyeroll) he is either full maine coon or he is a maine coon/ragdoll cross. She’s not sure which tom covered her queen. According to his polydactyl paws and overbite, he’s an inbred maine coon. But he saved my hide with my very upset teenage daughter who lost the love of her life cat(old age)

I’masuckerformeezers: black part-siamese that appeared on a riding friend’s back porch in Houston. black cats are impossible to place in Houston so, I wasted money flying him to NYC to help foster him to adopt him out. Silly me, he’s mine now. Beef allergy and all.

Holly Berry- found under a bush in a nursery by a local shelter group. Being the time Cat Women appeared in Batman, her name was obvious for a black cat. She’s sleek, warm and unlike Halle Berry, scared of her own shadow.

The "Oh, I’m just here to help a friend take her dog to the emergency vet. " Twins. Doesn’t everyone take their friend’s dog to the vet and come home with two abandoned, maybe 3 week old kittens? Besides the worms, fleas and dehydration, they had so little nutrition in the first weeks that they are permanently known in the house as “the kittens” At six years old, they may never grow up. Chasing your tail on the stairs and falling down gets a little old after 6 years, but they are entertaining. Just think roly poly old ladies who’ve tippled too much sherry with a little heart murmur thrown in.

I have HRH lynx point Siamese, Mira, Queen of all Things, Head Growler, and Chaser of Rattle Mice. She was a shelter kitten who looked like a cross between a monkey and Yoda. But she grew into a lovely, loyal, and wonderful Heart Cat who will be absolutely irreplaceable.

I have one felis parkinglottus, an orange marble tabby named Orion. He’s a bit skittish but once he gets over that he is the most laid back, chill, loving and adorable boy ever. He is a permanent fixture in my lap and loves to chatter. His range of noises is unbelievable. He makes a good pillow.

And then the current project, who is still unclaimed and now living in my office, the felis showedupatmybackdoorus, Amelia. She looks like a black and white cow. She’s seemingly not the brightest crayon, although she’s been through quite a bit in the past two weeks and it’s possible I haven’t seen her personality yet. She is very sweet.

Such nice photos in this thread of well-loved kitties. Excellent.

I have an exotic shorthair but he came from a shelter. Siamese colors with stripes on his legs and tail. He was really meant to be a dog. Fetches, meets people at the door, chases dogs, etc. He’s either in my lap or tearing around the house screaming.

I also have a generic calico. Sleeps who knows where unless you have food.

![]( have two British Shorthairs.

Delilah…Lilah is a shaded chocolate tabby. Pearl is the traditional blue.
Pearl is 3 years old and a definite British Lady! She’s very prim and proper and sweet and has a quiet feminine mew.
Lilah is 1 1/2 years old and a wicked little pissah! Always has something to say in a loud voice and usually in trouble, LOL!

We got Lilah as a kitten as soon as she was weaned. Pearl was at the same breeders and wasn’t going to be bred, she was almost 2 at the time. She had had one litter but there was a dysplastic kitten so she was spayed.

Here’s the two of them together, Lilah trying to squish Pearl:

I have one DSH I got from the shelter as a wee quiet kitten. The minute we got him home, he found his voice and has not stopped using it in 16 years. My other two are adopted lab cats, one DSH and one snowshoe Siamese. After having one Siamese, I will ALWAYS have one. She is so cool. Very vocal and snuggly with just a bit of spice. My DSH lab cat is the kitten who refuses to grow up. At seven, she stills tears around the house like a lunatic and is into everything.

100% genuine Florida bred street cats X 3.
