What do you tow your 2H BP with?

For those of you with 2-horse bumper-pull trailers, what size truck are you towing with?

I tow one horse in my 2 horse bumper with my chevy 1500. It has a smaller v8 (4.7? but 3.73 gears) so I do not haul two as it puts me at my limit. With a bigger half ton I would be fine. Stops and pulls great. I’d want a bigger half ton if I was doing hills a lot.

Chevy Suburban with a WD hitch and sway bars right now (and have for years) but will move over to our 7.3L F250 this summer until we replace the BP with a GN.

Ford Expedition

F350

Silverado 8 cylinder

96 Dodge 3/4 ton V-10. Hauls the heavy steel trailer and 2 horses like it’s not even there. I do have WD bars on mine.

Ford F150, 2WD, V8 Eco boost, 2015 (the first year it became aluminum). I’ve hauled 1-2 horses fine, mostly TB’s. Good gas mileage when not hauling. Although, full disclosure, I don’t haul a lot and not very far.

Truck: 2006 F150 V8 5.4 w/o towing package, towing capacity around 7,700
Trailer: 1980s (?) Kingston steel two horse BP straight load w/ ramp and tack room. Best estimate on weight is 3,500-4,000lbs
Horses: Two OTTBS. One 16 hands in pasture (read hay belly) condition and one pushing 17 hands track fit.

Truck struggles with trailer + both horses + tack. I could not/ would not feel safe hauling both horses, tack, plus showing supplies (hay, grain, people luggage, extra tack stuff for show, etc) with it. Truck was struggling with one horse this past weekend, but I think that is more of an individual thing (meaning it might be time to replace… again). Would love to have a Brenderup or Equitrek trailer and pull with the eco boost truck or a large SUV, but then I think about how I really want a 2+1 someday too… Good thing it’s not in the budget for a while to buy a new trailer!

2015 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L hemi, long bed, and 8 speed transmission. Love it!

I ā€œdowngradedā€ from a mid-1990s GMC Sierra 2500 and it’s been no problem at all. The newer half ton pulls better than the older 3/4 ton ever did.

2002 F350 diesel for a 2 horse steel. I usually only haul one horse

Previously pulled with a 2002 Chevy 2500HD gas.

I can tell the difference.

2013 GMC Sierra 2500 4WD. extended cab with regular bed. Towing package is factory and it has anti-sway programming. It turns like a bus. It’s awesome. We pull over a short but steep pass and we live on a very steep road.
We previously had a 1998 F250 which was not a ā€˜real’ F250. It was a transition year. It was half F250/half F150. We can really tell the difference.
We pull about 2500# of animal and 1200# of aluminum WB BP with dressing room.
Get ALL the truck you can. You won’t regret it.

A 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty diesel.

Nissan Titan with King Cab 4WD. Love this truck.

3/4 ton Chevy Silverado with 6L engine and 3.73 gear ratio.

I tow a 2 horse trailer (3200lb empty) with 2 large ponies in it (each about 900lb) and I tow with a 2018 Chevy 1500 with a V8 with the 5.3L motor. It tows/hauls amazing well! Was previously towing same trailer and ponies with a 2010 F150 V8 with a 5.4L and the Chevy does tow the trailer much better. Though its a newer truck so I would assume they would make a lot of changes etc.

1997 Ford Econoline van (E350 V8)

I love having the interior of the van for storing things out of the weather.

I tow a Hawk 2 horse + dressing room c 2004

Bockmann Portax K with a 2002 GMC Yukon XL Denali - 6.0 V8

Trail-Et 2H BP with Dressing Room - towed with an F-350 diesel.

2017 Toyota Tundra with towing package. Trailer is a Featherlite almost all aluminum (wood floor), no dressing room. Weighs 1900 lbs. Hauls 2 large horses without issues.
