I hope that the OP is not scared away from hunting after seeing a two page debate over standing v running martingales in the hunt field.

Interesting that both horses in Melody1’s first picture have running martingale stoppers on the reins. Yeah, I know, tack obsessive![/QUOTE]
You know, I noticed that right before I posted it! The chestnut is in his jumper bridle, and he sometimes wears a running martingale for that. The bay was in the only clean, safe, brown reins I have because I’ve gotten rid of most of my brown tack from my hunter days, and I just noticed the rein stops upon looking back at the pictures

A bit off topic once again, but do you hunt in BLACK tack? I do, and thought i was the only one
No, I am not scared off…my biggest thing as of now…is finding the time to just go out and do it!
Glad to hear it, RTF. The masters of whatever hunt you will ride with will be happy to provide the details of proper turnout for their particular hunt. I’d like the chance to go out, but the weather does not seem to be working in my favor. This weekend will be better, but I may not have a trailer
Whenever you do get out, report back about your experience!
