my gansta kitty: Tiger, a.k.a. Shizzle.
I see there are 6 pages of kitty names here already, I’ll have to check them out. The most recent acquisition here, an SPCA special is now named “Pat the Cat” aka “Pitter Patter Let’s Get Atter”, or “Patricia!” when she does something she shouldn’t. She is becoming a superior cat soccer player.
The previous cat (recently demised after a long run with us), was “Vinegar”. Her partner at the time of acquisition many years ago, was “Piss”, of course. Matched set of orange kitties, one male (Piss- a 25 lb monster who looked like an orange furry watermelon), and Vin was the little athletic lady cat. Vin was aka the “Light Ginger Vinegarette”.

She even has a bit of a gangsta walk now since one leg was completely shattered and required a bone graft. It’s a half cm shorter than her other leg. She’s got that street cred now though so it doesn’t bother her.
House cats, Bisty, Zootie, Emmet, Pretty Boy, Elsa, Mazie, Savannah, Nanny Goat
Barn, Noel and Flower.
Current rescues, Fiona, Katiedid, Smushie Face and a huge orange male.
previous best names, Momma Cat, Cat, Other Kitty. I love cats.
Puff
…or if you want to get all technical, his official CFA name is CH, GP Castlkatz Ghost Rider. But Puff (as in Cream Puff) is much more fitting for a giant squishy cream colored British Shorthair.
Our shelter had a Fri the 13th kitty sale all spayed, neutered, chipped, shots and wormed for $13 ea = we took 3 !! They were thrilled.
One was a black and orange tortie named Ember, another a soft gray named Paisley and the third we named ourselves, he was a little pistol of rip and tear and ran like the dickens all over the barn so he got named Ricky Bobby !
as someone else above mentioned, I can see them, but cannot remember their names…
The first of my own was Caper, named after the place in town where you would go to buy concert tickets…
There was a Mickey named for Jagger. Hazy memory here. I do know at one time I moved nine [!] times in a year and a half, ugh, but always had cats. I did have a Waddles, who wasn’t fat but did waddle. He was a Maine Coon type. His real name was Opus. A grand name for a cat. Lost to fe luk.
I had a female yellow tabby with an apron and white front legs named chesapeake or chessie or Peakie. Hit by a car. Fargo, a big solid grey good boy.
Then there were the two, Malarkey and his sister, Little Miss Muffet. Lark and Muff. Muff hated her brother. Mostly she hated everything and everyone. Lark was a low key personification of ‘Mohair Sam’ [fast talking slow walking good lookin’] He lived to be 17. He made CAT OF THE DAY once. The day I had him PTS, She walked into the bedroom and just stood there. She KNEW. Muff got a little friendlier, but it just wasn’t in her nature. She lived to be a month less than 20. I had a bad couple of years with losing a couple in an unfortunate circumstances. I picked up a likely tabby boy grey and brown are my types, and I named him Bosco. I lost him to some horrifying disease, in which I invested $800 trying to bring him back to health, against the advise of my vet.
I now have a large long haired Tuxedo named Gatsby, who is a friendly type who loves his nip. Bosco did beat up on him somewhat, but his replacement, 'lil Dickens named for the late great Jimmy Dickens fits his role to a T. He is a young grey/brown tabby, alert, playful and very respectful of Gats. They get along well, but neither is an unadulterated lap cat.
I visited a friend yesterday with two. He has a beautiful Bengal named Bilbo and a cute grey tabby named smeagol. Both look like watermelons. He is a very fit guy and yet his cats are obese!
My favorite name for a past kitty was my very large childhood cat that my parents named Mac which stood for Mean Ass Cat… very fitting for a 20lb behemoth who waited until you were on the toilet to exact his revenge on your legs with teeth and claws before running away and hiding. He was an awesome cat with an all too great memory for past acts of treason against his fair feline senses.
George, I like the idea of the naming of cats to match the personality. I take it very seriously! The best cat I ever had was named Malarkey, [because he was full of it] aka, Lark. He had a very droll sense of humor, and was a delightful boy. He and his sister were the last kittens I have had, and that was circa 1993. He lived to be 17, and his sister, Little Miss Muffet lived to be 19 and a half.

Reinforcements
Since this revived - and I love the stories about the names I will add:
We had a cat named Chicken and a horse named Bird when the kids were toddlers … try teaching the kids to talk…
My husband had two cats when we got together named Kitty and Kiddie.
Smokey Joe. As in the song “Smokey Joe’s Café”! He is a beautiful smokey/silvery gray, and hip too!
Garfunkel
I went to the animal rescue and met two kitty brothers… Simon and Garfunkel. I absolutely loved Garf (yes that is his nick name and it sounds weird) and started paperwork to adopt. While I was in the process of paperwork a family came in and started playing with Simon and Garf and wanted Garf, but since I was already adopting him they ended up adoption Simon. We signed the paperwork at the same time so it was a really happy moment for everyone. I don’t know if Simon kept his name, but I kept Garf because it seems to fit him. He is a very chill cat!
Current two - Nigel, 6mo orange manx, and Nemo, 7yo orange DSH. No longer with us, my original orange cat Norman - my soul will find yours. Then Neumann, also orange male. I have a thing for happy orange boy cats with nerdy “N” names.
Chloe - 16y.o. Russian Blue
I’ll play!
The inside cats are: Buddy, Bartholomew, Baby Boo, Braveheart, Hissy, Butter, Skipper, Raja Beatrice, Fancy Pants, and Peepers.
The feral cats are: Bob, Scooter, Little Bug, Cricket, Tinker, Dash, and Midnight Field Kitty. A couple that come around on occasion are Puma and Tiger Long-Tail. Actually, Puma may not want to come around anymore - I FINALLY caught him in my have-a-heart and took him to be neutered, ear notched, and get his shots last Friday.
I haven’t seen them in about two months now, but I’m holding out hope that Slinky and Squirrel simply wandered off for an adventure and will be back at some point.
I won’t list all of the ones that have crossed the bridge. Suffice it to say that their names are engraved on my heart.
In chronological order from when I was a kid…

Miss Kitty (current cat)
Our current cats are Monkey, Pedja (named after a Serbian friend) and Dogie (who was feral and without a mother, like a dogied calf.)
My childhood cats were Shadow, Itches, Smokey and Harlequin. Our more recently deceased cats include Zelda, a feisty and emotionally distant tortie who was quite beautiful and two barn cats, Otto and Mr. Carp.
Our most beloved cat was Melbourne, a yellow male who lived to be 16 and a half. He was lovely in all ways, a prince of cats.
