What is your "side" job?

AKA when you aren’t riding or doing anything horse related what are you doing? Just thought it would be fun to get to know each other a little more and see what are lives are like both horse and non-horse related. For me, to pay the bills, I work a full time job at an investment bank and then (horse related) I also juggle teaching and training at a barn near where I live.

I’m a CPA working for a fractional controller firm.

I have a retirement farm, which helps cover the overhead of my own horse and retiree.

Former corrections officer, then probation officer (for 7 years), and now corporate paralegal trying to get back into probation work. This corporate business is quite dull compared to my other careers and I just don’t have the passion for it I hoped I would. I also work once a week at the barn - for credit to help cover lessons and lease.

Veterinary radiologist (I do NOT do horses anymore, don’t ask  ).

Attorney. I represent providers of affordable housing (rental) for low-income and elderly residents.

Research scientist at a vet school. I manage and run the experimental side of three different labs for veterinarians who have special projects.

Middle school teacher, just completed my 25th year. My side hustle is boarding retired horses to offset the costs of my own retiree and my horse at the trainer’s barn.

Nurse here. I would love to board retired horses. I don’t think I’m in a good area tho, hot, muggy and buggy. And lots of backyard breeders, dog fighters, etc. Not a rich’ish area, lol. But I really would love that, sigh, I mean come on, taking care of things is what I do!

Retired accountant but now helping run StreamHorseTV which is the website that has listings and links to horse show live streams.

Office/facility manager at a tech company. I also occasionally actually side hustle with horse-sitting, training rides, and giving riding lessons.

I retired from teaching HS (Lit/Soc/Psy), but have returned 4 times to pick up 9 week short -term jobs to pay for a new horse and clinics. I’m also making a little money with my paintings. DD hung three in her office and since then I’ve been commissioned to paint four for other people who paid me—most recent commission is a huge painting! I’ll have to paint it on my floor since I don’t have an easel big enough to hold it. Ironically --or so it seemed to me --I’d just moved from painting chiaroscuro horse portraits to more whimsical pastels colors with cats --suddenly I’m back with the black paint!

Currently I’m a trophy wife/stay at home dog mom. I left my toxic (both physically and mentally) job as a concrete quality control tech back in November. We’re in the beginning stages of purchasing a small business (liquor store) for me to run.

My DH is in oilfield trucking. Thankfully he makes enough that I don’t have to work although I feel pretty guilty doing nothing, hence the liquor store.

Real Estate, barn manager, but the real moneymaker is my Rodan + Fields skincare business. Love it because it’s mobile, I work when I want, and it pays all the horsie bills! Best gig in the world!
