WHAT? "Man Beaten by Sheriff's Deputies After Stolen Horse Pursuit"

Exclusive Video: Man Beaten by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies After Stolen Horse Pursuit

“San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies appeared to use a Taser to stun a man and then beat him after he allegedly led police on a pursuit involving a vehicle and stolen horse in San Bernardino County Thursday afternoon.”

What a good horse. He just stood there while all that was going on, and the one cop even smacked him on the butt and he was still pretty chill considering.

It’s funny I used to go to that place on Bowen Ranch road all the time, you can hike to some awesome hot springs right there, and there is a farm ( or at least there used to be) that rents horses so you can ride to the hot springs. Maybe that’s where the horse came from.

Someone knows how to ground tie. Good pony.

Am I the only one who thinks that the police were out of control?
Cuff him, book him. But they piled on like a pack of wolves.
They should all be put on two weeks unpaid suspension for that display of roid rage.

I am quite disturbed by that video, but we do not have sound and we do not know the full story.
Must be some rough ground. The police looked like it was quite cumbersome to run across it!

So was the horse tacked up or did he have to saddle it before he stole it?

I heard this morning one of the officers was kicked by the horse. From what I saw, good horse.

I really, really want to know the backstory to this incident. The LA Times online article this morning said that the horse (understandably) kicked one of the officers, and that the horse had injuries to his or her legs.

I doubt that with how well that horse ground tied.

What the hell? I am almost always always on the cops side…. but geez, that was major overkill in my opinion, I’m especially appalled that the deputies slapped the horse that far out in the middle of nowhere, I imagine mine would have run off to never be found again… What a good good horse.

What I’ve missed time and again is how the suspect got on the ground. GMA said he was thrown which would make some sense with the helicoptor overhead, but the horse’s behavior on the footage I’ve seen was exemplary.

My horse would have made record time back to the barn

guy just tumbled off. But he was not resisting. He lay on his front, put his hands behind his back, and then got tazed. definitely overkill.

I just wonder what it takes to be on the chase against a perpetrator like that, and then try to calm yourself enough to just cuff him. We hear about this kind of inappropriate violence all the time. And in this case, it certainly looked inappropriate. WAY inappropriate.

Over kill indeed by police…but about like what I would have wanted to do to him if it were my horse he stole. Police are supposed to be above that.

It looks like I am not the only one who thinks they were out of control.

They mentioned a Deputy being kicked by ‘a’ horse not by the stolen horse.

Somehow I don’t think the horse who kicked the deputy had an much malice as the second sheriff who kicked the suspect between the legs. Who does that? He was down and tazed already.

There should ne mandatory, monthly mental exams for cops.
I’m tired of hearing stories of cops, using their power in a bad way, just because they can hide behind their badge with a lie.

Agree

From the article: During the beating, “The horse stood idly nearby”.
LOL!! Did they think he’d join in the fracas?

I will have to rewatch but I think he was thrown when the horse dodged cactus or bad footing. I lived in Phelan the next town over and my horse wised up to the terrain fairly quickly.

Much like the calls for same (well, routine, not monthly) in the Germanwings mass murder - what do you expect these “mental exams” to show, exactly? If you’re looking for personality disorders, there are some long, involved tests that might tell you something; but there’s no need to keep doing them. And some PD’s can fake them too. So maybe a good idea for initial screening, with the caveat that you won’t catch everything.

Apart from that, unless the person is experiencing a serious break with reality, any mental health screen can be successfully faked. They rely on patients being honest.

What needs to happen is that use of unnecessary force and outright brutality is punished, as it would be anywhere else. In my work, if someone insulted or angered me and I responded by kicking him between the legs, I’d be rightly charged with a crime.
I don’t see why it’s any different when cop chooses to kick a prone, Tazed suspect between the legs. You don’t need mental health exams, you need a judicial system that holds law enforcement accountable.

This is one of the most horrifying things I have ever seen. I hope this gets serious press and follow-up on his condition and the officers punishment.

I also find it pretty unbelievable that that horse kicked anyone. Stepped on a foot, maybe.

Do we know what happened to the horse?

And I definitely agree, that the deputies were completely out of control. The guy was cuffed on the ground and they were beating the crap out of him.
