Whatever happened to Rasputin?

We are trying one of his offspring and love him. He seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Did he get gelded? sold? pass away?
TIA for any info

if you mean Rasputin from Aaross in Canada, try googling and you will find contact information. I think they were getting out of the breeding business and sold off a lot of stock last year but I don’t know what happened with the stallions.

Eddo Hoekstra has a Rasputin:

He was bought by SouthLane Farm last year and since re-sold (according to their website). Contacting them would be a good place to start.

Last thing I heard he was sold south…Florida I think to become a hunter.

I’m not sure if he’s been cut, but I’ve spend plenty of time with the horse and don’t recall a day he didn’t act like a gelding. He was allways a complete gentleman and very relaxed and laid back, even at shows.

He is a lovely horse, with a lovely type and produces that in his foals.

well, his baby (5 yr old…lol)we are trying is from his first crop…and he is lovely! It would be sad if he wasnt standing anymore…

Rasputin

I have a lovely 4 yr old by him at my barn that I am going to use for breeding this year while her owner is out of the country. She is really lovely, moves well, uphill and is very sweet. Too bad a stallion only proves his worth in the breeding shed when his young are competing and by then he is often cut. I think Rasputin’s early foals were on the small side and that put a lot of breeders off using him in spite of his excellent bloodlines and incredible temperament. The young mare I have is around 16.2hh.

I have a bizarre update. We went to Canada and bought a really nice hunter. We went to Florida and bought a really nice dressage horse. Both of them are by Rasputin!! We just found that out this week!
They could not be more different looking, as the chestnut with 4 whites hunter is out of a tb mare (and beautiful!) , the black with a stripe dressage horse is out of a wb mare and is much thicker and shorter bodied.
But oh my are their personalities similar…lol
I heard Rasputin is still intact, but not being bred. He is in NC showing as an Amateur hunter!

Rasputin

I have been looking for Rasputin also. Well, at least information on him as I bought him for my wife last year. It is a long story, but we just found out today who he is. We have been seeking information on him for some time.
If anyone has any information on him, we would appreciate your sharing it with us. We are aware of his lineage, but do not know anyone whe has ridden/owned him in the past
He is still a stallion and still a great looking horse!!

How is he doing? I actually had looked into purchasing him at one point as a dressage horse when he was still at Aaross, but then he sold and I had never heard where he went. He’s a lovely stallion.

He is doing well. He is our first horse! My wife was looking for a quiet horse after being dumped several times by the crazy one she had been leasing. So, ironicly, we bought a stallion!! We were planning to geld him, but he never gave us any reason to do so.

We have been trying for months to get information on his background through the farm owner/broker that helped us find him. We finally just bypassed her and called the farm where we bought him. They called us last night and gave us all the info they had. Then I began an internet search which led to more info (and to this forum) Needless to say, we were surprised to find he is so well known.

We were at the point of gelding him yesterday. As of today, he is safe from the knife!!

Any plans to have him back in the breeding shed. Maybe part time?
Interested breeder want to know.

We are preparing to move him to a different barn. We will not make any decisions about breeding him until after the move. He should be moved in the next 30 days, maybe`sooner. I think we will eventually breed him given the success his babies seem to have had. But,that will be my wife’s decision.

Congratulations on the purchase of a wonderful horse.

Well, we love the two geldings we have by him…it is such a wacky coincidence that we got two by him. One in Canada and one in Fla.
If there is any way to keep him whole and breed him down the road I think it would be a service to the industry.

The current thinking here is to keep him whole. We will introduce him to new trainers soon. I am glad to have some background to give them. I would be surprised if they do not think we should breed him. He is a great horse and we are lucky to have him…

Wow, lucky you… he is a wonderful horse, I am so glad that you may be breeding him. His offspring are only now proving their worth in competition and seem to be doing well in all disciplines. Rasputin did very well in dressage, up to med level I believe, at a fairly young age. When I was talking to his breeder/owner from Aaross Farms he told me that the young lady who was competing with him up to that point could not do so any more and they had trouble finding another rider of a good calibre to take him further so they decided to retire him to the breeding shed. He did tell me that he was still schooled on a regular basis and had started him over jumps and thought he would make a nice hunter. He came from a first rate breeding farm, ran very professionally and I know that Rasputin always had the best of handling and care. Good luck with him.

photos?

Would love to see photos of him!

That is quite an amazing coincidence!

Well, this is a tough crowd so given all the positive comments here these babies must be quite nice : ).
