What's the best vacuum cleaner?

Dyson

Hands down! Now when we had carpet (we switched to hardwoods) I would borrow our friend’s 20+ yr old Rainbow because of the water filtration.

But I loves my Dyson. The only thing it isn’t great with is the bird dust. Just too fine! So I Swiffer that room.

Dyson Animal. It will suck the hair off a Chinaman’s head from your living room!!
The only negative thing I have found about it is the beater bar still winds up with long hair (I have very long hair). But this is a beater bar problem in general.

I am prob the least domestic person you will ever meet and I LOVE MY DYSON!!! I have 5 cats and a lab in the house. Discovered 1 lab sheds a heck of a lot more than 5 cats. Since I don’t vaccum nearly as often as I should, I regularly vaccum up several “cats” when I do. It is truly amazing.

I LOVE MY ANIMAL!!

I currently have a Dyson and thought it was the greatest vacuum, UNTIL I purchased a Hoover bagless, 12 amp Wind Tunnel canister vac.

I can vacuum with my Dyson, then go behind with the Hoover and fill up dirt cup several times over.

I NEVER use my Dyson now, it’s a perfectly good vacuum that is just sitting in the closet. It’s Hoover all the way for me!

And I have 4 dogs (Corgis, which we all know shed like crazy) and a Rough Collie cross. PLUS parrots with feathers/dander/seed etc.

I would highly recommend the Hoover: http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WindTunnel-Canister-Electronic-S3765-040/dp/B00008UI0R here it is on Amazon.

No one has mentioned the Tri-Star yet. Best vacuum on the market, the thing is indestructable and can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it’s still going strong; what other vacuum can say that (except maybe a Kirby)? It’s pretty spendy thouigh, I bought mine used for $800 and new they cost $1500.00  Last vacuum I’ll ever buy.

I have the Dyson Animal and while I do like and recommend it, you have to be careful with it on some carpets. I have a couple of area carpets that the Dyson is actually ripping the fibers out of. These are not particularly cheap carpets either. I have resorted to using one of the attachments on them rather than using the full vacuum/beater bar.

Living in a folliclely-challenged household of 5 and up to 12 dogs and 2 cats, I take my vacuums seriously. Which ones do you find work the best on assorted animal hair, grit, etc.? I currently have 3 Oreck uprights–one on each floor, and the Oreck Mini, also 1 one each floor. I like the lightness of them, but am wondering what else is out there…

Does anyone else FREAK :eek::mad::mad: when the darn thing quits?? Has anyone else been embeeerassed to take their stinky gritsucker to be repaired?
dyson - i have had mine for over 10years and wouldnt be without it, and noits not the animal one as that came out later, as long as you clean the filters and give it a thorough clean every 6mths it will last

So DH and I went out and bought the Dyson Animal (on the ball) yesterday. Of course the minute we got home I vacuumed the living room with the old vac and then went back over it with the dyson. We were amazed with how much it picked up! Super happy we finally got a new and GOOD vacuum cleaner. DH was like you are way too happy over this lol.

Edited to add we got it at Sears, where they let us pay the online only price (which was about $160 cheaper than the store price!).

I have central vac and love it but it is expensive to install. My neighbor is a total neat freak is completely in love with her Dyson.

We have a Dyson and vacuuming is now so easy. We bought the DC23 with a motorhead which does hard floors and carpets with different heads.

I am also thinking about getting a hand held Dyson for quick clean ups. Any thoughts on this http://www.vacuumtop.com/best-cordless-handheld-vacuum/ ? Or any other recommendation aside from Dyson?

I had one of the original Dyson Pets (almost 15 years ago) and it was great (although it weighed about 75 pounds!). We replaced it with the Dyson Pet (with a ball) and never thought it worked as well. That one had an accident (fell down the stairs while I was vacuuming from the top…I know, I know!) but I had a hard time justifying replacing it because I never thought it was that good.

I got a Shark Pet or Animal …and I really like it. I think it is every bit as good as the old Dyson, and a LOT cheaper - which is good because I am not sure they are worth repairing when they get old.

Doh…Didn’t realize this thread was so old. And there was one on Off Topic the other day too. Oh well. I still like my Shark.

Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away True Pet brings me true happiness. I had two friends tell me about it and when a client said she likes it better than her Dyson, I got one in December. I love it. I don’t think there is a better vacuum at this price point right now.

I don’t care if this is an old thread. I feel compelled to share my joy. If it continues to work this well with regular maintenance I will be a Shark convert for sure.

I just bought a shark navigator lift - away. A lot less than the dyson, and in the 6 months I’ve had it I’m still very, very happy with it. I have 2 sheltie dogs, 4 parakeets, 1 lovebird, and a english lop bunny. So lots of hair and feathers around here !
I second the Shark Navigator lift away. It out cleaned an older Dyson and was easier to handle around and under furniture. Bissel has a similar lift away, rotator product that I also liked except it didn’t fit under the beds like the Shark did.

Also love the Bissel Lift Away Deep Cleaner, Pet carpet shampoo machine. It’s real good on stair treads too,

Dyson animal. not the one with the ball. Amazing.

Huge Miele fan! We have a 10 yo. Canister vac with a power head attachment and it is the nicest, quietest vacuum around. Pricey, but I will never consider anything else.

I love my Shark Rocket. With the cord and washable filters it doesn’t lose power. Receptacle could be larger and needs emptying twice during a session. However it doesn’t weigh a ton either.

I love, love, love my Kirby! Last place we live was right off the beach and we had a Great Pyrenees. I had sand and hair everywhere, but the Kirby powered right through it. Downside is they are very expensive, I payed around $3000 for mine, but I will never have to buy another vacuum.

I love my Shark Rotator Lift Away. The amount of dirt/hair it vacuumed up the first time I used it was amazing! It made me see how much my Electrolux was missing. The newer Shark has an option that makes it like a canister vac, which I actually would prefer. My mom swore by her Rainbow, as someone mentioned above.

Shark Navigator lift away. Does as well as the Dyson, a third of the cost. I had a Dyson Animal that worked well for a while and then it got to be a constant trip back and forth to the repair shop.

I have a Dyson that I love love love. Super easy to use and boy oh boy can I see the nasty hair it sucks up. I don’t have the animal specific one and it works great, had it for a few years and never any issues.

Prior to the Dyson (which was a gift from my mom) I had a few Bissell Pet Vacs which I liked a lot as well. The reason I like Dyson more is that it can go from tile/wood over to carpet really easily.
