We purchased a used Filter Queen and that sucker (ha) does not leave a spec of dirt or dander anywhere. I really have no complaints about that vacuum. When I have to dump it out, I can’t believe how fine of particles it picks up.
I think based on this thread way back when, I bought a Dyson DC44 (the cordless stick, but about the third generation of that style). Well, actually, I’m quite certain I bought one, but I think it was this thread that prompted me to do so.
After initially being in love, then I was kind of underwhelmed. Then I found myself dragging the oreck downstairs to clean the floor/carpet and carpets felt much cleaner. Then I took the oreck in for a very overdue service and had the brush replaced (apparently the bristles were mere nubbies), and yeah, now things really get clean.
It’s a 1 corgi/2 Maine Coon + 1 medium length hair cat household, so there is a fair amount of hair floating around at any given point.
I like my Oreck Magnesium - super light and easy to handle. Does a nice job on both carpets and hard floors. It does have bags, but I don’t like bag-less so not a problem for me. I clean up after a Gordon and a Corgi plus barn & gardening dirt, so it has a relatively challenging job. It’s about 3 years old now, so holding up well over time - it was around $400 on sale, but I think they run more now.
If I could afford it, I’d buy a Rainbow. I have a Dyson animal. It’s good, but I’ve clogged it many times. Had the Rainbow guy out for a demo and he sucked up so much dirt I was embarrassed. Told him I hadn’t vacuumed before he came when I actually had.

MD, I was torn between upgrading vacuums to something like the Magnesium or servicing mine (an older basic utilitarian model), but then I bought that turbo rotating thingie for cleaning carpets, flooring, etc. and there went my vacuum upgrade budget!
(bags absolutely don’t bother me, it’s possible they bother me less than dumping out the cannister every time I use it)
Shark Vacuums are the best!
I’ve Oreck LW100 Magnesium SP bagged upright vacuum and I love it. It has 2 speeds which I find it great for transitioning from wood to carpet. The suction too is great on my shag carpet
Due respect to our new posters but the last thing I am going to do is click on hot link in a bumped thread from years ago
