Where can I shop online for American bred young hunters?

I recently bought a young KWPN gelding from a small breeder. We found him through word of mouth and he was not advertised online.

I’m interested in finding another one like him. 3-6 years old, preferably warmblood-type conformation (I like a slightly bigger build than a typical TB), sane, hunter potential.

Would love to support American breeders, but I’m having trouble finding these horses.

I subscribe to several YT channels for European sellers where I see at least ten horses a week being marketed. Is there something similar for US horses?

Thanks!

I have a couple young hunter bred foals. I have the youngest up for sale now on warmbloods for sale website, but haven’t had any hits! And he is a phenomenal mover. Maybe I don’t have enough pictures up or my video isn’t good enough, but I am surprised I haven’t had any interest. Especially watching some other foals on the same site that are twice the price!!!

I would love to find a more specific site to market my homebreds, but haven’t found one I love yet!

The U.S. Sport Horse Breeders Association (USSHBA) is a great resource. They have a long list of breeders, and their websites.

ExchangeHunterJumper.com has some US breeding barns with sales pages.

Just wanted to Thank You for supporting American Breeders!!!

Just what Samotis said :-). I typically sell in utero and weanlings from that site.

Thanks, everyone!

I looked at the warmbloods website last night and sent out a few inquiries.

Central and South Texas!

Every year when I do the AHS tour, I am so pleased with the high quality of hunter type young horses in the Houston area and south central (s of Dallas) area. Look up some of the Hanoverian breeders in those areas.

Unfortunately we primarily sell our youngsters as custom foals or as in-utero options and currently don’t have anything in your age range, however I want to personally thank you for supporting the American Breeder!

Unfortunately it’s a large country with a lot of horses. It would be a very helpful thing for all breeders to band together and pick a website that sells horses. I have been breeding Warmbloods from imported mares with imported semen for 15+ years. I’m a very small breeder of quality horses. Yes, I have a horse you described. He’s perfect for the hunters. We breed those here Europeans still don’t “get” hunters. Feel free to contact me.

There are some sale barns on the Exchange with nice youngsters. I have found lovely prospects from the International Hunter Futurity site, in the classifieds.

Ooh. Justice! Great idea! My guy has shown in the IHF!!!

Thanks for the reminder!!

Are you a USSHBA member? If so you can be listed in our breeder directory:

www.usshba.org

This is a nice list of US breeders arranged by state. You could also try looking at the registry’s websites, many have a sales or breeder directory also.
I’m sure finding website and contact info would be simple. Thank you for supporting American breeders, hopefully you find what you are looking for.

Samotis, I’ll bet you have some luck! There are not usually that many, but when I am looking for a young Hunter prospect it’s one of my go to spots. And, there are people who love to do IHF and are specifically looking for one that’s nominated.

I have wondered about this very thing, except from a seller’s perspective. We’re one of those “back yard” breeders in a rural area of the US. Perhaps try searching “outside of the box” for prospects in unlikely regions of the country. You might be surprised at what you’ll find!

RollingStoreFarm.com breeds some nice hunters. Since Mo also has stallions she may be able to point you to clients as well

Dos t look like there are any updated IHF babies for sale on the Site since 2013!!!

Too bad!!

In Mi we have an outstanding Sir Caletto gelding 4 yr old, 16.1 plus and growing, started lightly over fences and loves to work! Super front end and definite derby prospect. email for more info sanstone1656@yahoo.com

Hunter types are not always bred by “hunter” labeled breeders. Breeders breed for a type but what comes out is sometimes not what they expect. There are more than you think lurking about. Any farm you come across that breeds well, may have what you’re looking for.
