Where to look for a tall (16.2+) Pinto/Paint stallion prospect.

With hubby’s current (temporary, I hope) health issues, we are considering moving away from the Painted TB’s to something quieter that we can AI. We plan to keep all of our current TB and ISH mares and still prefer the “spotted” sport horses, but cruising the On Line sites is depressing!!! "Big/Tall youngsters are expected to mature 15+ hands!! Our yearlings are that big!! Anyone know of a quality breeder of Sport Horse style paints or pintos?? Thanks.

Well, the stallion himself is deceased, but perhaps you can breed your own. A breeder near me (Cocalla Creek Sporthorses) had a Paint/WB stallion who was at least 16.1hh and the stallion who sired him (a WB) was well over 17hh.

After doing some lower level dressage he moved to eventing and from what I hear did pretty darn well.

Lovely mind, very quiet. I know she still has a bunch of frozen on him…maybe you could use it on some of your TB mares…or she might be able to put you in touch with someone who has kept one of his sons entire.

Here is a link to her website…the stallion is Wolkenzauber.

Looking APHA or WB for starters?

Coth member Patti Brantley- id- Florida Foxhunter- has Flying Colors Farm in Tallahassee, Fl. and has been successfully breeding and showing Pinto hunter/jumpers for 20 years or so. She may have a stallion or two for sale.
Her horses have shown and won all over in the big shows including Devon.
She has a nice website under her farm name.

What about breeding your own from a TB? There are quite a few Halo-lined racing stallions at stud that are pinto colored.

Well I would not suggest an european WB pinto. Depending on the amount of TB and arab blood, they can be as hot as a TB. But if you really want a good looking pinto stud prospect, the WBs in Germany and in The Netherlands, as well as one farm in Great Britain, have some great horses with gireat bloodlines, great performance, great conformation, and then great color If Stanhope stud is still breeding horses in England, check them out. Poland also has a line of “centy” named pinto WBs which look good.

I believe she had a rather serious horse accident not too long ago, so she or her husband may be hard to get ahold of. In other words, if you do attempt contact her, please give them a while to get back in touch with you.

While I’m not crazy about APHA HUS horse classes and the way they are judged, there are some quite nice looking horses and most tend to be rather tall. We had a really nice stallion locally, years ago, that did the Pinto Worlds and could tranter with the best of them, but he also did Dressage and moved out rather nicely as well.

I really don’t want to “breed my own”…with my luck 'd end up with a barn full of fillies before I got a colt I’d like!! I’d rather “see” what I want. This spring I have two ISH tobiano/pinto mares due to foal…both are part (1/4) TB, (probably both will have fillies!!) but if I breed one of my “best” TB mares…I’ll be stuck with not being able to breed her to my own pinto stallion. We are aiming our breeding toward high % TB…Irish Sport Horses. The WB’s are a whole picture I am not really familiar with. I don’t know G’s, from F’s or what ever and I know inspections and approvals are very important and out here in Poduck Notwhere…inspections are days away. I just want to add some tobiano to the mix. I was shocked this year when three loud Puchi’s Rambo (Puchilingui) mares did not produce a single spot!!! Chrome, but no loud DW/overos. A hunter (not APHA show style) type paint with some TB blood would suit me. All of our mares are pure TB’s (loud DW’s) or tobiano ISH’s. Due to lingering health issues with DH…as in I’ve been doing 28 horses, ALL tractor/farm/barn work AND intensive medical care of DH for the past 6 weeks…I’m rethinking our breeding…especially live cover!! I’ll be selling some Rambo mares and babies, but the foals are our retirement income. Social Security pays little if you are not illegal and worked hard all your life!!

Sady, this stallion has passed. Radikal is another awesome guy too but was injured young and I think he has been gelded (still may have frozen). If you contact her she may know of a prospect

bont/colored/skewbald/piebald sport horse breeders

2 full brothers in Canada: Tricolore and Sandstorm should have offspring, owned by Teri Erickson

BWP stallion Socrates is 17 hands and Randy Johnson, greener pastures might have some intact colts

BWP stallion Palladio is 16.2, Andrea Clibborn Anderson at Crestline Farm www.crestlinefarm.com Washington State, also has an licensed son of Palladio but I can’t recall his name - anyway, she might have some intact colts.

Flying Colors - I want to say they have 3-5 colored stallions from the samber-art deco-hall of fame lines (Norsire stands or stood Gold Card)

Hillside Farms Canada has Skeptic, son of Spectrum (Spektrum) who stood (or stands?) at Silverwood farms, Virginia

If I remember the name of the stallion or owner in Washington State who had a very gentle pinto stallion, I’ll add him. I recall she was an older lady who had to do all the breeding by herself and she raved what a gentleman he was for live cover.

Andrea has two pinto sons of Palladio: Painted CF and Pallido Blu (who looked fabulous at the 70-day test last December!).

Thanks for all of the good leads. I’ll look into them. They are the “type” I’m looking for.

I know a super 6 yr old who may be for sale in The UK. A son of the same dam as Palladio and by Lupicor. His name is E-type and he stands at Weston Warmbloods.

That’s a bit out of my shopping zone!! Canada is at least the same continent!! Thanks anyway!!

Check out Living Large, Hot Ones Only, A Chance For Romance, and Allocate Your Assets offspring. They’re big, easy going, there is usually quite a few on the stallions fb pages for sale.

Arts Aero at Blazing Colours Farm in Ontario, Canada. We have one of his offspring where I board and she is just a stunning mare.

I know a Wolkenzauber daughter - SUPER ammie friendly, really great personality - and a BIG (16.3+ full bodied) beautiful, nice moving horse. Although she did not get “color” she is a lovely black though.

OP - what registry are you aiming for?

There’s a really nice coloured colt on warmblood-sales.com. Hard to tell if he’s stallion quality just from the advert.

I love this boy.

I’ll be selling some Rambo mares and babies, but the foals are our retirement income.

With the state of breeding, I certainly wouldn’t bank on it as retirement income. You’d be better off selling all 28 that you have and simply saving the $$ it takes to keep that many horses.

State of Art, licensed son of Art Deco, is being auctioned off this weekend. sporthorseauctions.com

boulderridgeranch.com (Manitoba Canada) has an intact coloured colt for sale;

I’ve just learned that Skeptic passed away in 2013 and owner didn’t keep any colts intact. She is selling one of his daughters and I have seen some Sempatico daughters listed for sale.
