Which channel(s) will have the equestrian events
I am not sure what I checked. I will have to check again. I hit the link and it asked for a zip code. I tried several (mine, one from the other side of the city and one in the city) and none worked.

I do have channel 10, so hopefully they play something good on there.
I’m sure we aren’t going to get much. I think it’s more like msnbc or whatever. I only have the basic cable package (old analog TV) so I can’t get the better channels. I’ll DVR what they show but fast forward through most of what they do. Let’s face it, the equestrian stuff doesn’t thrill a lot of people like diving etc. :frowning:

Thank you. I live in the same area as msj so it is channel 10 here.

MSJ, I guess I will end up doing the same thing.
I would guess the equestrian event cost quite a bit more to cover too. Heck diving, how many cameras does that take to get good coverage? Cross country takes a whole herd of camera operators and such.

Is the live streaming free for those of us with cable? I can’t seem to find that answer on the xfinity website, and I don’t want to open my bill next month to see a surcharge. It would be just like them to charge for it.

tv thread

I think that you will see plenty of events live. After all, NBC will be wall to wall. However, they will not likely be covering the shooting, [biatheletes?] or such obscure events. Personally, I am thrilled that the entire thing will be telecast. And as far as it being 3 am, well,it will be LIVE! Set the dvr. If you have high speed internet, I think it is all available here. 99% of what is on tv IS garbage. However, that one % is heaven! Any chance you will sign up for cable, and cancel afteer one month?

Not sure but…

I have the Dish, and I have xfinity high speed internet. NBC has many channels. You will have to see what channels are showing the events you want to see. When you see what channels are listed for equestrian, look on the list of channels you have now. If that one isn’t included, call your provider, and have it added for a month. The only channel I don’t have provided is the NBC Universal, and the Dish threw it in for me, for free during Rolex. Unfortunately, it runs out the day the Olympics start! so if the equestrian stuff is on Universal, I will have to pay extra for a month. Check your listings!

While that’s a possibility my DVR won’t hold all of it and, with a small farm, I can’t sit glued to the TV 24/7. My dog and horses would be very pissed.

Our Gannett newspaper often does a lousy job with the TV section so I would imagine they will screw up posting what’s supposed to be on at any given time anyway.

Hopefully FEI-TV will have their live streaming. Or does NBC have the exclusive rights ?

Laugh. So true.

Hahahha sign up for one month?!?! Have you seen the contracts, 1 year+ that these companies make you sign? I went through hell and back with DirectTV (they couldn’t get a signal to me, yet charged me HUGE “early cancellation fees”).

I will NEVER pay for TV again. I do have high speed internet, but NONE of the online feeds are available for people that do not subscribe to cable. I WOULD pay to watch online, but that is not an option, I am not in the pocket of Comcast / DirectTV etc. There are ILLEGAL internet sites (based out of the UK mostly) that people post their TV feeds to. I would do not to go to shady / illegal sites like that – but that is the only place that I am aware of that you can watch the Olympics without paying a cable company.

I believe it is exclusive :frowning:

Last Olympics NBC kept ALL Olympic coverage available online long after live stream was done–it was really excellent because then I didn’t have to completely flip out every time I couldn’t be near a TV to watch. Hopefully they will do that this year, too? And it was free, thank goodness.

Also I am really excited for the Olympics this year. I think we have some great riders going in all disciplines from the US. That, and I love watching any and all sports.

I’m surprised that the USEF Network isn’t going to stream them.

We don’t have cable either. I can’t say that I’d be glued to the TV, but I was hoping to catch the dressage!

Oh thanks for all the info! I’ve got my iPad all set up for the live streaming and I love that there is an on-demand feature as well! Looks like I won’t have to skip work/sleep to see it all!

how come the individual jumping final aug 8 is only on nbc for 30 minutes? doesn’t it usually take longer than that?

Of course it takes longer than that! But you don’t think that people tuning in to see skimpy outfits on girls playing beach ball volleyball will want to see male and female riders, undistinquished by sex in dress do you?
As far as paying to view, it is better than it used to be. The best viewing was the year of the ‘triple cast’ but it cost a lot of money. But you could see every minute of every ride. It wasn’t available where I live, but it was available at my parents. I camped out there for two weeks! When there is a big time lag, they can decide what they want in prime time on free tv, usually something where we have a hope of a medal. If you have a real life, unlike me,, you are wise to spend your money elsewhere. I have to be careful where I spend too, and will probably slash and burn lots of my Dish coverage right after the Olympics. I am home most of the time, and watch a LOT of TV. Too much I know. I am waiting eagerly for this event. I have chafed before when I actually had a job, and if you have one, thank GOD. I wasn’t home for the coverage in previous years. I had to set the record button and get all the sports I don’t care about for 6 hours to see 10 minutes of riding. NBC pays MILLIONS for the telecast, I can see why they would want exclusive rights. I don’t know where that leaves the Canucks or Brits. I am sure your networks have coverage too.

This thread has me all confused. I have checke3d with DISH Network and they gave me the Olympic channels for free for 3 months (automatically canceled at the end of the 3 months so there is nothing I have to do to unsubscribe.

I suggest you all contact your provider before giving up.

But what really confuses me is the difference between watching on TV v. watching on your computer. Can’t everyone with a ISP watch Olympic events by just confirming that you are, indeed, their subscriber?

For those interested in TV viewing, the Olympics will be shown on NBC, NBC Sports, CNBC, MSNBC and Bravo. Additionally, two other channels have been made available for watching basketball and ?soccer? from beginning to end.

NBC sports - here is a link to get the listings in your area:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/get-local/tvlistings.html

And, you can customize it to just get the equestrian event schedule.

According to the link below, they are live streaming all the equestrian events:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/index.html
The top link isn’t working tonight. I can’t even access just plain www.nbcolympics.com either.

Isn’t there enough of a time zone difference that live streaming is going to be happening when most of us who work have to sleep, or be at work? Now I’m going to have to figure out how to stream, and record. Is there anywhere that on demand highlights will be available? Or will that be left to the NBC prime time programming?

Grantanaka - how did you set it up for your ipad? I have Ipad and Dish, so I should be ok - if I can figure it out.

I’m a bit confused about options too. I don’t have a tv or a tv subscription. What are my options for live streaming on the computer? The NBC site seems to give a live streaming option only if one is a tv subscriber.
