Does anyone have a “good” hotel to recommend?
Just about all the chain hotels in G’town are clustered together off Cherry Blossom near Wal-Mart and are probably similar in price, quality and amenities–plus you can jump on the interstate for direct access to the Horse Park. Try comparing via a travel site like hotels.com before you reserve.
I show at KHP all the time and love both the Holiday Inn Express and the Microtel at Georgetown.
Try looking at the ones on Darby Road-that’s the Hampton, Hilton Garden Inn, a very nice Best Western, Microtel and one other that was a Country Hearth Suites or some such and is now something else.
There is also a Super Eight across the road and a new…oh, is it Fairfield or Courtyard where Shoney’s used to be??? But the Holiday Inn Express-if it is the one right behind the Waffle House? Now something else-Days Inn maybe? Not recommended.
All of these are right off 75 at exit…oh…125 I think. Irons Works Pike and the horse park are exit 120.
You can also check down around exit 112/115 or so around the Man O War exit. Quite a few chains and out of the immediate horse show area while still 10 minutes away. I stay there when at the park.
If you want a nice restaurant in Georgetown Circa 1840 Rocks!!
Circa does rock. And if you want home grown pizza, Fat Katz at the first G’town exit is super.

yes it is but it is pricey for pizza but yummy!!
Exit 110
I just stayed at the Baymont Inn & Suites off Exit 110. Very nice for the money. Got a 2 room double queen suite for, yes, $85 per nite plus tax. Good beds and ckean as well. Took ten minutes to get to the horse park entrance.
Enjoy, it was a lot of fun!
Thanks for the responses. We are in the process of screaming at Short’s for giving the Quality Inn (behind the waffle house) a 3 star rating. We booked off of their site in december and it was one of the only Georgetown hotels they gave stars to. What a load of crap. The have to have been hitting the pipe to give stars to this hotel and not the Fairfield or most of the others that you are recommending. I am disgusted with how the housing has been handled and blame Shorts for making a massive mistake.
I have to comment the the Quality Inn really stepped up and adjusted our rate to somthing a little more reasonable athough still high. It is also under new management and is trying to clean up. Short’s on the other hand are as dirty as they come. The $$ they are skimming off these reservations is repulsive.
We are staying at the Quality Inn and our room is adequate, but I can see how the hotel needs an upgrade and there might be rooms with problems. Let me know if there is something we should watch out for.
I used to work in the travel industry and star ratings are typically based on amenities and not quality. You could have the fanciest hotel with the highest class of service but without an exercise room it won’t be a four or five star. And a $60 hotel can be a three star just because it does have things like a pool.
Adequate is not worth $499 a night though. That is my complaint with Short’s since the Fairfield with better quality/amenities and NO stars on Short’s site was HALF the price of here.
Thanks for the FatKatz recommendation - great pizza. Perfect since our friends got in late from the airport.
We have always stayed at the Best Western, and find it clean and adequate for our needs. They do have a great breakfast buffet, unless that has changed in the last two years.
Not a hotel, but since you mentioned Georgetown, you might want to check out the annual Festival of the Horse downtown this weekend!
They’ve also got some huge Equestrian thing in the G’town outlet mall parking lot–for those not familiar, it’s on the road that goes beside and behind Cracker Barrel. You can see all the tents from the interstate.
Has anyone checked out the music and goings on in downtown Lex? My friend is a mgr at the Farmers Market and she tells me they’ve got all kinds of entertainment going on down there.
Any shuttles to KHP from Georgetown hotels?
are any of the Georgetown hotels offering shuttles to the park, or would it just be easier to drive in and pay the $20? I showat KHP all the time and know it is not far but I would love a shuttle, so as not to get stuck in a gridlock late at night…
We were at Cracker Barrel and I saw no less than four different tour busses cruising around the hotel row - I would think they were shuttles as I haven’t seen such a thing before. Can you call your hotel and find out?
Now, for the OP, I’ve stayed in the Super 8 and they were good to me back when we had the ice storm. Nice room, right next door to Cracker Barrel, good price. My standards may have been low after five days without a hot water shower though.
There is a brand new Holiday Inn across the freeway next door to WalMart with its own restaurant, or you can walk a little to Asian Royal buffet next to the tire store. Sushi at a buffet - good sushi -imagine that. Quality Inn is the one behind the Waffle House and I guess it isn’t worth the money, there are three or four more, I can’t keep track but you should be able to google them. You can use exit 125 or 126 to access them going northbound - one is left then right, the other is left.
we are staying at the Hyatt place for 139/night plus tax
I take back any generous thing I said about the Quality Inn. Titan, did you talk to the manager? We will be looking for him/her today.
His name is Jeff and we have had words. Our friends were locked out of their room with faulty door locks and had to have it chaged out twice. Plus the woman in the front is a really piece of works. My husband asked for coffee yesterday morning since it was empty and she smashed around muttering that she had had enough and couldn’t do this anymore…I know ladies that had no lights and for some reason the GFI in our bathroom keeps tripping. I haven’t taken off my rubber soled boots yet!
BUT - Fat Katz has been GREAT! We got take out pizza late one night and we all sat down for dinner last night after XC and had a great time.
