[quote=egontoast;4188651]Huh??

nope. Read it again. No one said it was given 6 days before testing.

“Madeleine Winter-Schulze, Isabell Werth’s sponsor and owner of her competition horses…has commented the Whisper underwent a treatment a few days before Wiesbaden, but it was the veterinarian who said it was safe to compete. …”

Prolixin is given to horses on lay up frequently. Has the horse had an injury where it had to be stalled for a period of time? I had a lay up here at my barn last year on Prolixin, the drug lasted three months, going into four after being given. Mostly the horse would stand around and then sleep for hours in the afternoon, it caused the horse to be very sleepy. This is good on stall rest, it makes the horse happy; and is given as a shot, so getting it by mistake is nearly impossible.

I’ll give her the benefit of doubt, if a high strung horse needs rest for weeks, the drug is excellent. MHO.

somehow you missed the other 4 pages where it was discussed extensively what the horse’s problem was and what the drug was administered for.

Banned for 2 years, apparently:

Werth Accepts 2-Yr Ban

…and you know what? Even I can’t decide if that’s harsh or not.

seems extremely harsh to me. i would have guessed 3 - 6 months tops.

provisional suspension until the date of the offical hearing is set and the outcome determined.

Seems harsh to me, after all the vet should have advised her better. Vet should have had a better idea how long this remains detectable in the body, she just took the vet’s word for it really.

VERY HARSH1

VERY HARSH1 Will she be able to do the qualifying shows for WEG 2010?OR EVEN COMPETE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS?:mad:

WOW! 2 YEARS?

Well, if she’s the judges darling, she must be the federation’s nemesis! I’m shocked.

Will see if that is accurate info…On a more important note Michael Jackson died…WOW

News here is saying he is alive, in a coma. Who to believe?

I am hearing it has been confirmed.
Back to your regular schedule…

I feel it is extreem. What about the vet?

A side note, when you rely on a professional that is supposed to know…and they are wrong…what do they get?

Harsh. Very harsh.

Yep, the LA area has caught up now. So sad.

Hmmm…life takes over…I can’t believe MJ derailed IW

I don’t think it’s harsh at all. Fluphenazine is a common long term tranquilizer that almost any horse person of her caliber should be well aware of. It has a 90 day withdrawl period so why she thought it would be okay to give 2 weeks before a show just plain amazes me. She should have known better.

why? what’s so hard to decide? 2 years in a professionals life is a life time…it’s insane. What’s so hard to decide about that? She has an extremely talented 10yr old horse that came up with shiver symptoms and the shoer complains? She agrees to the vet’s recommendation and the vet (who also killed Ulla Salzgebers career by putting testosterone cream on Rusty) says- Oh it should be out of the system in 6 days…she says great- let’s try it.

Do you think she spends hours and day researching vet labels and chemistry and stuff the vet should know? Do you think that’s where her mind is? Please!!!
She is an upstanding great person, highly educated, under a lot of stress to perform and not an evil horse abuser or a fool. Flu is less popular in dressage circles and less popular in German dressage circles- it’s not like Bute or some other well known meds…

The whole thing is insane- at least to me. It’s embarrassing and stupid and sad. And it will hurt the worldwide sport…at least that’s what I think at this time. Aachen this year will be boring…blah!:frowning:

Yes why not? Especially when she is aware that medication has been repeatedly pointed out by her roof organisation as being the riders (and solely the riders) responsibility. And especially when the doctor has repeatedly been in trouble for violating drug rules either doping-wise or under general legislation.
And especially when the drug administered clearly falls under the doping list by virtue of it’s categorization as a phsychopharmaceutical. And the horse being considered hot and herself fighting mental problems with her flagship competitor, her being a studied attorney and especially when there have been a ton of detrimental dopingcases in her close environment just recently and equestrian sports in Europe being on the watchlist with the TV stations for this very reason andandandand I sure as heck would say she ought to double check before giving an antipsychotic drug to her competing horse anytime.
The point is: Said drug was illegal to give to any horse at any given time even if it would never compete. It was illegal to be in this vet’s posession, illegal to be taken over a border by him or anyone else other than for personal need upon prescribtion by a registered human physician. It was as illegal a drug administration as they come and if Miss Werth decided to have it administered regardless that means she was indeed at the time of the mindset that the rules didn’t apply to her because of her status as a dressage superstar and the best rider on our team.
Good for her if she has changed her mind by now. I’m sorry if this means the end of her career (doubt it though!) but how else can rules be enforced? They exist and it is everyone’s choice to either live by them or ignore them. The consequences must be the same though.
If I lost my driver’s license for drunk-driving I wouldn’t be fined less because I live in the countryside and can not get from a to b without a car while a city person could easily get to work on the tram, bus or whatever else there is in terms of public transportation.
If she was unaware of the situation - tough luck but here ‘Dummheit schützt vor Strafe nicht’, meaning you’re not going to get away with something only because you’ve been unaware you violated rules.

One sight reported it was two years has this been confirmed? It will speak volumes if she keeps this vet.

Ummm, I’d like to say I don’t spend hours and days researching vet labels and chemistry, it’s most definitely not where my mind (usually) is. I like to think I’m an upstanding person and highly educated and my stress comes from my day job, so I figure that puts me at a disadvantage in that my stress doesn’t even get generated by competing.

That said, I still manage to understand the rules that affect me in competition. As an ammy who is “the boss” of my horses care and management, I made it my business to understand those rules that could critically affect my ability to compete, i.e., the D&M rules and guidelines and how to play within ammy rules. And let’s face it, this is my hobby, not my livelihood. I imagine going forwarrd she will be a bit more serious about them now that it’s kind of obvius what Rx her horses get actually is more people’s business than her own, but sometimes it takes a tough lesson, eh?

However a 2 year suspension is long for this offense, but I supect if this is true, it is immediate and pending a hearing which could take months. Meanwhile she starts serving her “time” now, gets a more typical 3-6 month suspension and will have already served it. She gets credit for time served and proceed straight on into WEG prep, no harm no foul. IW might not know the drug rules but it looks like she has the rest of the FEI figured out brilliantly.
