Notebook is related to one of my horses! “Blackie’s” dam was by Well Decorated. Also my mom had a horse whose grand sire (I think it was his grand sire) was Raja Baba. They are both amazing horses with A LOT of heart.

Not every TB is an OTTB. Mine never raced and is by Formal Gold out of an In Reality line bred mare, who also happens to be a half sister to Unbridled and Cahill Road. I bought him as a 2 year old, he is a 2004 model.

Mine is by Garcon Gris. http://www.pedigreequery.com/sandys+hotsie

I won’t call her a 10, since she’s got a little more knee bend than I’d like at the trot, but she’s pretty nice.

I used to have a daisy cutter who only had knees when she jumped, and she was by Italian Connection. http://www.pedigreequery.com/fancy+blanket I used to think she was stiff-legged the way she moved, but she was usually the hack winner. Shows how much I knew back then, I guess.

I have one who regulary wins the hack and he’s an English TB but he never he raced. He is by Derrylin.

Is the Sandys Hotsie off of CA Canter? I admired a grey mare on there and I think that was her name.

Yup.

What a spectacular dam line! Gana Facile was a WONDERFUL mare.

Seven-Up, Fancy Blanket was beautifully bred for a jumping TB. She is from my absolutely favorite female family, and the French TB jumper sire Laudanum has her sire line. Not on top, but Norseman is his damsire.

It’s interesting to me because mine has Tom Rolfe in there too - his Sire’s damsire. I think there’s a strong heritability to movement (as it relates to conformation) and because off track thoroughbreds are so easy to find pedigree information on (usually) I was curious.

I do, of course, realize that not every TB is an off-track horse, but I was also interested in seeing if there were any predictors of movement there.

Keep 'em coming, I’d love to hear more!

What a great thread! Looking forward to seeing lots of answers. I’m a huge fan of TB pedigrees and what they produce, both on and off the track.

My little guy can get very fancy asked. He’s an eventer, though, so his fancy is different than a nice hunter hack mover. Very animated. Either way, posting his info as interested to see if others have horses by his sire who ended up being huntery.

Slim is by Carnivalay (Northern Dancer out of a Obeah, a lovely producer) out of an Crafty Prospector mare (Mr. P). I am a big fan of Carni myself, so am thrilled to now own one.

Sonic, my old TB who was a LOVELY hunter mover was by Deputy Minister, out of an Our Native mare. Blue blood himself. Will be interested to see if anyone else has experience nice sporthorses by DM…I have heard he produced good ones.

Don’t know about Carnivalay as a hunter sire, but he is one of the current very top American steeplechasing sires.

Thanks! My trainer forced me to buy her as a 3 year old. I really didn’t want her; she was a mess; gangly, clumsy, hard to ride. She really blossomed into a nice girl, and we did really well in the smaller circuits. She was a hair over 15.2h, and we eventually made it to the jr hunters. This is her:

Lucky you!!

I have heard nothing but great things of the Alydar babies/grandbabies. Great work ethic and great minds!

I got a 2006 Medaglia D’oro baby recently. MD raced till he was 5 so has only been in the breeding shed for short while.

Really a handsome guy who is at the moment all legs:

Candi’s Goldn is father and mother by Advocatum.

Gracie never lost an undersaddle. She has the most beautiful walk I have ever seen.

My best mover by far was an unraced TB mare (bought her as a yearling) by Zodiac (Speak John x Pole Star, by Northern Dancer), out of Super Saint (Boldwood X Go Saints Go, by Royal Stepper). People came out of the woodwork wherever we went asking about that mare.

From my (admittedly limited) experience, I’ve come to associate Speak John with wonderful minds and all over strength and athleticism; Northern Dancers with more lightness (and lightening quickness that can come out of nowhere) and beautiful, efficient movement; Bold Ruler with classic good looks and ability (Boldwood in particular for elegance.)

That mare was my ideal type of horse: she had enough suspension, a flat enough knee, and length of stride to blow 'em away wherever she went: 9’s on gaits from the likes of Sue Blinks and Hilda Gurney, and BN hunter trainers offering to ride her for free in exchange for first option to buy.

First horse to come along with movement to impresses me that much is Hush-- WB (of course :() by Compliment. Boy, do I wish we could find and make more of such TB treasures!

I’m wondering what the bloodlines are of 10 movers that came off the track  Of course, this is a very unscientific question, but I’m curious!![/QUOTE]

My current very nice, lovely moving ottb is by Our Emblem … http://www.pedigreequery.com/gallaslad

and i previously owned another great mover by Crafty Friend … http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/margaud

and another very nice mover by Tomorrow’s Cat … http://www.pedigreequery.com/coalition+lad

I have a really nice OTTB mare who is a lovely mover and she is by Proudest Duke. She will hopefully be doing the baby greens this summer.

I also have two who never made it to the track.

One is a Seattle Slew grandbaby by Canadian Slew who is a wonderful mover and I actually just sold him, based on his movement.

The other one is also a lovely mover, already out there showing and is by DIg Zig.

I do have a Wekiva Springs baby as well, but he’s an OK mover…local level stuff

Here’s my son’s gelding: http://www.pedigreequery.com/major+lee3

Have been told by various people he is “very fancy”, especially after the trainer’s weight gain diet!

This is my boy:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/elberton+hawk

He can make it in the hunter ring, but excels in dressage…very big boned (and 17.1) and most ask me his breeding, thinking he is not a TB - but I am very glad he is, I love 'em.

He is a bit of a throwback - he looks a bit like Pharos(sire of Nearco), I was wondering where that head came from.
