Why are the German so successful

Pretty good description of the German System.

I have alao been told so I have no proof… that the government buys grand prix horses for the next generation to learn on, so those are what they are calling school horses.

They breed the horses and they write the rules. The rules have altered over time to fit the talents of German Warmbloods. If the rules favored collection over extended gaits maybe the Spanish on Andies would be world champions.

And yes it is true, far more government support and oversight of breeding training and instruction.

In North America equestrian sports are pretty much the only field left entirely in the private sector where participants have to bear the full.cost of the sport.

While we have municipal skating rink, golf courses, playing fields, tennis courts, swimming pools, etc that make it much cheaper to develop young talent. Even skateboard parks.

Imagine how much fewer competitive swimmers you’d have if you needed your own pool to learn to swim. Or your own tennis courts to play on. Etc.

Lots of rules, certifications, qualifications, etc. for what is a hobby for a lot of people in the US.

well if you argue like that… Its a hobby for most Germans as well and somehow with this system even an affordable one…

there is a system, you talk about it all the time, don’t you? or not? No one is arguing here with you.

really?

I agree with most of your post, except that the rules have been altered to fit the German Warmbloods… Right now the Dutch horses are more successful and some other European Countries as well and Dressage is about developing the Horse into an Athlete with pure gaits. And extended gaits are really needed even in the nature… They make sense… A horse which can go not forward will die immediately because somebody will eat it…

prove me otherwise

I don’t have to prove anything, I’m not the one making that claim. It’s between you and Suzie.

This article is stating to me what seems obvious, but maybe I’m missing something. I’ve known for 25 yrs about the german program, having been in a classical German school from my first lesson.

what would specifically you like to pull out of this article?

Yes, we get it. Germany is perfect and we should bow down to it at all times. I think a healthier way of looking at it is to analyze how Germany goes about certifying trainers and how we can deal with the shingle hangers in this country that can be detrimental to the horses and the sport.

to answer the OP, since Germany pretty much invented modern competition dressage, literally wrote the book could have something to do with it - I wouldn’t swear to it, but…

I would love to see the dressage horse judges of CotH, out of a line up of 20 unidentified warmblood horses, correctly tell me which ones are Dutch and which ones are German.

all the horses to be shown by the same New Zealand handler.

Europeans eat horses that won’t go forward?

do they eat them when they’re foals or wait to break them in, then if they no go forward at the right speed (which is?) then they go forward to the dinner plate?

Germans must all be born correctly knowing how to ride Reactive horses, no?

No, I think you misunderstood my post   in the wilderness, wild animals will eat horses which cannot go forward  I don’t think collection is useful for survival

??? not sure what you are talking about??? I said, its Fake news that the Government buys GP horses to use them as schoolmasters for young riders… And you doubted it… I thought you know by now that I don’t really believe anything written by somebody without proof…

( I think there was one case in the past, when a horse was bought with Government funds in order to serve as a schoolmaster for the son of one of Germanys Equestrian officials, but I think that was considered more abuse of a position then a plan for the future… )
