Because if you live in California, it’s cheaper and easier than dragging your ass to Montana. Not to mention it’s probably a bit more civilized.

A thorough COV19 protocol is shown on the Woodside HP site. Stanford Med is 5 minutes away, if nec.
Like RF, Galway ran last month without issues. At RF the announcer gently corrected non compliers (masking). A completely different clientele from PF. Actually a completely different planet. Oh and it’s not too late to volunteer if you’d like to help. No spectators are allowed so this is your chance to watch your friend do xc.
I agree, I’m volunteering at a HT next weekend that is doing every single thing in their power to be compliant, and to make sure nobody ruins it for everybody else. Until the USEF or the states say no horse shows, as long as horse shows are 100% compliant with all mandates, why not? If you don’t feel safe going, don’t go. If someone goes, ask them to stay away from you for 2 weeks. If you go to a show wear a mask. Follow the rules. Don’t go see anyone who is ill or elderly until you know you are safe.
Hard to get “more civilized” than Rebecca Farm. First class event in a fabulous setting. I’ve been privileged enough to be on the officiating staff there the last two years.
FWIW, I thought it was in regard to Pony Finals chaos.
I will be competing at Woodside (the event mentioned) next week. An email was sent out today outlining the protocol for the weekend. It’s extremely strict, well beyond anything that we experienced at Twin Rivers several weeks ago, which was very well run. It will be an adjustment to wear masks 24/7 and not be allowed to have any family/friends in attendance, but it should make for a peaceful, quiet competition environment.
It was Robert’s decision to have such a big show and Woodside is much smaller than Rebecca, Twin or Galway.
Who wants to lay bets that if locals, county or State shuts this shit show event down that nobody gets money back?
Why are so many events cancelling but not Robert, check out the list for yourselves at USEA. The pony finals were just shut down but Robert has just gotta push the envelope.
Let’s also talk about where the virus is rampant in California and the fact that Robert and others are coming from So-cal to Nor-cal where death numbers are lower currently.
California, Texas, Florida all HOT zones so lets horse show in those states NOT… Many in the community got to hear how Galway started off awesome and then show became lax about protocols with so many not having temp checks and office becoming crowded. WE won’t be adding to the debacle and will be skipping Woodside this time to think about others not just our own selfish goals.

I know nothing about this event or its details or this Robert person you seem to not like. I just want to say that comparing a local type event to pony finals is not really a fair comparison. Pony finals brings people from all ends of the whole country. You might note that AEC’s are not cancelled, so if you are going to compare an event to an event…

Well well well. Since I live in and participate ‘in the community’ and my CDS chapter just had our July triple rated at Galway with Robert and our own good management and there was complete compliance and I have not heard one word about any issues at the event, I can only wonder what bee is in your bonnet regarding Robert, Galway, and compliance. What a provocative ill meant post and to what end I wonder. If you have some spleen that needs venting why dont you wait and see and then take up any refund issue with Robert.
Your ill mannered sneering implying what exactly, that Robert is running the show so he can get the income and then cancel and keep the entries? Pretty underhanded and inappropriate.
Playing devils advocate, I neither know the venue nor the OP. However, considering things are being shut down right and left, it does make one scratch one’s head when similar venues are cancelling that anyone would plan a big show unless they have no issue with cancelling and keeping the fees. It’s a win win. You can plan a show and have an honorable reason to cancel. Not that this or any venue does this but I’m sure it does happen.
Woodside entry and stabling, like Galway, is paid to USAE, not Kellerhouse. Other smaller upcoming events (i.e. Shepherd Ranch and Woodland, where I volunteer) specifically state no refunds in case of cancellation. If your friend is so concerned about whatever it is they are so concerned about, why didn’t they ask?
Re your virus concerns: Here in nor cal I can drive an hour max in any direction, 30 minutes or less if I go north or east, and find plenty of one night to 3-day, indoor, team ropings and gymkhana every weekend, most if not all announced publicly via social media. Perhaps you should advise them that they have too many horses in a small area and see what happens. Since you like bets, I dare you to wear a mask.

I thought it made sense. (Not saying I agree or disagree with having shows/events right now.) They were pointing out that this event the OP is complaining about is no different than other horse things going on.
At least, I think that is what they were saying, that is what I got from it.
