Wide Stirrup Leather Brands

I recently started using Millbrook stirrup leathers and I LOVE them so much. I absolutely love how they feel under my leg (they are nice and thin and don’t pinch like nylon lined stirrups do), but they have already been wearing into my calfskin saddle. I just placed a custom order buffalo, so this won’t do!

Does anyone have experience with other wide stirrup brands? I am eyeing the Free Jump stirrup leathers, the Devoucoux Jumping leathers, and the CWD So Jump leathers.

Any and all feedback/replys appreciated!

Bumping this up for you as I am interested as well! I am not too interested in the FreeJump leathers as I would think the D ring that connects the top and bottom pieces would rub the saddle and possibly your leg. I am very interested about the So Jumps though!

Thank you! That’s a good point, I did not think about that. I also feel as if the Free jump leathers would not have the same anti-bulk feel that my Millbrooks have.

If it helps at all CWD and Devoucoux are owned by the same corporation (or so I have been told by a different rep from each company), which explains why the SoJumps and the Dev. Jumping leathers are so similar. I think the CWD version is cheaper by about $50.
If you end up buy either pair please update the thread! I desperately need new leathers I am just nervous to try a new “style” and not be able to return them if I don’t like them!

Free jump just released a “wide” stirrup leather that goes with their new classic stirrups. These I think are better than their pro-grip ones because there is no metal piece that can rub your saddle. Just from the Instagram picture of these new leathers they look softer than Millbrook. But I have also seen that Devouvoux has released wider leather for jumping and dressage

I love the Equiwings!

Yes, it is true that Devoucoux owns CWD (or vise versa). I am thinking of going with the Devoucoux stirrups if I purchase new as they look nicer (I have seen some used Devoucouxs and they looked gorgeous, I personally do not like CWD’s leather, it feels different from Devoucoux and feels cheap-ish).

I will be sure to let you know if I get a pair! It may happen sooner than later as I do not like traditional stirrup leathers.

Thank you so much! I had no idea that FreeJump released these. It does worry me that they are very similar to Millbrook, but they may be made with softer leather.

Does this brand made wide stirrup leathers? All I am finding is their regular stirrup irons online.

Bumping this up as I am finding my calf leathers pinch my calf! I have never had this happen before. I think it might be my stirrups (S top MDCs). Thinking of going weber or mono-style leather. What did you end up with OP?

Not the OP but I have the CWD ones and am very happy with them. They don’t rub anything.

the wide SoJump ones?

Yup

Total Saddle Fit has some similar to Millbrooks but calfskin lined against the saddle. https://totalsaddlefit.com/shop/shop/stability-stirrup-leathers/

has anyone tried the TSF ones?

I have them. I’m not rabid nuts about any of the wide leathers but I like the leather better than the Millbrooks. These are softer and calf lined (in part)

The Henry James ones look very nice as well.

Has anyone got updates on preferred wide stirrup leather brands? I am seeing them from $235 for FreeJumps down to $49 for Ovations.

Just bumping this with an opinion on the TSF leathers. Got them a month ago and I hate them, the leather is so cheap and plasticky feeling in comparison to the FreeJump classic wide. I guess if there are no other options the TSF ones are ok, and I’m not rolling in cash over here, but I think one is better off saving up for something better quality.

I believe Ovation makes them, and although it isn’t a fancy brand, I have a pair of normal Ovation leathers I’ve had for 7 years now that are very soft and really nice quality for the price.
