I’m seeing a trend in higher waisted pants and I’m hoping fingers crossed that this means high waisted breeches will come back, too! I honestly am sick to death of fashion from NY, Milan and Paris influencing clothes we use when riding. Seriously, it’s not freaking functional, nor wears well if you are not rich enough to have a groom do everything with your horse. But, if it’s going to swing it back to functional waists (no more plumbers butt when watching people pick horses feet, or camel toe if someone is long waisted and pulls them up to high) I’m at least happy with that outcome. I honestly think they should just offer a couple of good, standard options and just go to town on the fabric options. Changing the design, to me, is just ridiculous.
I have a super long waist and I wish I could find more high waist options in the US. Does anyone have any higher waisted brands they love?
Not in the US.
I hope so, too. Recently, I purchased two pair of Cavallo “Chagall” breeches. Very high waisted, very flattering. They fit beautifully under my shadbelly – no belt buckle or shirt peeking out! One pair brown, the other champagne.
Sadly, I bought both pairs of “Chagalls” on close-out.
Most of the breeches I own are end-of-season finds or close-outs. I will buy a pair that fits even if I’m not nuts about the waistline. That low-waisted fit is somewhat distracting in the saddle. The higher waists don’t do that. My waist is where it’s always been regardless of fashions. I prefer clothes that sit at my natural waist.
Glyphica, I found one pair of the Chagalls on eBay – from a British seller. The other was in a closeout bin of a vendor at our championships. So a few places will have high waists, but you have to search and search.
FITS breeches are high-waisted and comfy as breeches can be. Stickyseats aren’t bad, and they’re reasonably priced. I hope others will offer more suggestions!
Hear, Hear!!!
I tried on a pair of breeches yesterday hoping they would fit as they were a nice discount on a nice brand of full seats.
Anyway, they were SOOOO low rise that they didn’t even cover half my bum!!!
Terrible!!!

I think it would be nice if a variety of breeches were offered. I prefer somewhat lower waisted breeches because I am short waisted and there just isn’t much “real estate” between top of hip bone and lowest rib. I would look awful in the high waisted ones. I think I did have a pair of Royal Highness (?) that were higher waisted. May everyone find the breeches of his/her dreams!!!
That’s part of my point. I’m thinking that they should be functional first and foremost, then they should play with color and maybe fabric. But there really is a standard in cut that works best for riding, and that can have variations to fit different sizes and body types. But, to follow fashion and assume that people want fashion over function is crazy and stupid when you’re talking about a sport.
Just wanted to say-- i sure hope they come back.
Attn manufacturers: i would buy them.
I would also appreciate size charts that speak to waist, hip and inseam measurements. It’s so much easier to buy jeans than breeches.

Yeah, my top of my pelvis and lowest rib overlap. Kerrit’s high waisted breeches went up to my boobs. A waist which is too high is painful, and I suspect similar problems happen for folks with long waists and low rise breeches. “Low waisted” breeches reach my waist most of the time.
I have been seeing more high waisted breeches on tall friends. I don’t know brands since it’s not personally relevant, but my understanding is they have had more options lately. Hopefully some will chime in. Heck, even Smartpak is now offering a Piper option with longer waist. I agree with the points that there should be options in a variety of shapes - but I sure wish one specific style would stay consistent and if the brand wants to make a different shape, make it in a style with a different name so those of us with no tack stores known not to order it!
In my barn they never went away. I wouldn’t wear anything else- completely ridiculous! Even on the slender young- they are always in the way, not supportive, falling down. Stupid fashionistas!
Equissentials https://www.equissentials.net/
And they completely customize without additional charges.
I hope not, having breeches that support my boobs is not my idea of comfortable.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a choice, instead of following trends? I hated the high-waisted breeches like the Devonaires I wore for hunting. Like one of the previous posters, my rib cage starts low, and anything high-waisted makes me feel as though I’m struggling to breathe. Absolutely love the availability of hip-hugger breeches, at last I’m comfortable while riding!
There are some classic models that have been around forever - such as the Pikeur Luguna - it is a “natural waist” breech. Some of the Kentucky breeches and some of the Cavallo breeches are still mid or high waisted.
I have no desire for the high waist to come back, I’m another where they literally came up to my boobs - I had a boob shelf! But I hate the ultra-low waist too - I don’t want my belly hanging on the front, and my crack showing up the back! And for a while, that was every single breech except the high end classic models. Goode Rider was one of the worst - to this day, I’m not sure they make a model that works on a normal figure (aka anyone over 19 years old).
I am another rider who wishes the breech makers would make stuff to fit normal people. Why not make each size in short, regular, and long? And that covers rise, not just length of leg? Grrrrrr. I found breeches that fit when I was shopping in Germany a few years ago, and those are the only breeches I buy now, even though I have to pay shipping from Germany.
B Vertigo by Horze seems to have a medium/higher waist - I’ve worn the Kiana in knee patch style and the waist is decidedly higher than others without feeling like you’re wearing grandma’s britches. I’ve seen more breeches coming in that are not the super low rise variety, so hopefully that’s a solid trend.

I ride in Pikeur Candelas almost exclusively now. I started my obsession with a couple good finds on ebay. Now I just order from ooteman.nl for the best prices. They are super comfortable and wear like iron.
Luganas -Yes!
Try Trainer’s Choice. A variety of styles - some natural waist, some lower. I love the Rene which sits at my natural waist.
