Man, I had forgotten how bad that fall was. I’ll have THAT stuck in my head the rest of the day . . .
me too.
that just ruined my day.

Wow. Winding down thanks for bringing to my attention in your post something that is none of my business. By pulling together all those comments. Really? This is of service to eventing? How?
One can argue that the subject of the op is no one’s business either. Unless you’re the owner, rider, or trainer of Mandiba. But, of course, this BB is full of topics that aren’t really our business, yet we still give our 2cents worth.

You’re welcome! Hope you had a lovely day.

I had the same reaction when I saw the story so ‘thoughtfully’ laid out for everyone.
I think the way s/he laid it out just made it clear how hurtful the posts were.
The point was clear without the cliff notes. The quotes just emphasized the story. I thought that was not necessary and was not in the spirit that that poster was proposing.
I am glad to see that the snark was just removed. I purposely did not quote that post b/c I felt that it and the previous post #107 needed to be amended and was allowing the poster room to edit
Holy moly. I guess I don’t see how Winding Down’s post could possibly be interpreted as ill-intended.
I don’t know, have a margarita or something.

This is a very public horse who has represented the US in the Olympics. I have expressed my concern about the effect on the sport of eventing if he has another horrid fall. IMHO that’s quite different from discussing people’s private lives. Eventing is on the radar for many animal welfare groups and others because of falls and deaths of horses and riders. I believe that things that might relate to the public perception if eventing are topics that should be discussed here

Baby Cakes,
Sorry if my snark offended you. I was responding to the comment as if it wasn’t the (admittedly obvious) sarcasm that it was. I also assume that the above bolded is a bit of snark/sarcasm as well. Quite common on these BBs.
So my concerns were real and I was greatly troubled by the comments about private lives. Laugh, giggle, insinuate, make innuendos… Do some cyber elbow punching and rolling of the eyes…
I quoted them only because I felt that people should understand the series of damaging and hurtful insinuations. These are real people who have real lives and they do read these BBs. Imagine if you were one of them… Just imagine…
ETA: I also included all of the comments and I removed the authors. I do not want to pick on any one person as I don’t think this is a “one person” deal. It’s a group-driven behavior that is exacerbated by the mode of communication, e.g., cyber/deindividuated, etc. I doubt that many would stand up and make such statements face-to-face with the target; but they would make these statements here, knowing that the targets will likely read them.
Enough of this :). I am HIGH on having spent the weekend watching our awesome WEG team rock at our awesome Great Meadows, reborn!! Nothing can being me down from that!
ETA: My “snark” was saying “you’re welcome, hope you have a nice day :)” to someone who posted “Thank you.”

Not that I’ll ever have as high a profile as the individuals under discussion, but personally I’d be far more troubled by accusations of putting personal gain over a horse’s welfare than I would by suggestive references to sexuality, etc.
I have rarely thought to myself that maybe I was done with COTH. But these personal remarks nearly did it. I appreciate Winding Down speaking up.
[edit]
FWIW, as a passing spectator of the sport, it seems to me that perhaps this horse would be happier/safer doing something else. However, I see lots of horses in lots of disciplines that I think would probably be happier/safer doing something else. Most of those horses aren’t coming out of such a high profile barn, I suppose.

This.
While I agree that it’s really none of our business and no useful purpose is served by speculating on a public forum about what people do in their private lives, I think it is far more damaging to one’s reputation (especially if that person is a well-known equine professional) to imply that they have greedily disregarded the best interests of a horse in their program, than it is to imply that they might be involved in a relationship with a certain person.

agree
I am also unsure why such a relationship is a big deal to anyone who isn’t personally close to the principals. So what? They certainly aren’t hiding it. Even a clueless wonder such as myself can read between the lines of the eventing media, without even looking for it. What’s so terrible? (Putting aside team drama … )
It took me a while to figure out what people were getting at until it was all pieced together in that one post.
If it is true, who cares? The only thing that matters is whether or not the horses are being cared for properly.

I very much so agree, and as I said; anytime a horse changes hands people will speculate and when it changes hands between people who have close relationships, people speculate even more. This entire BB is about speculation pretty much. If someone posts a video asking for advice we all speculate what he/she could do to improve. We speculate who will make the team. etc etc
ML and KOC don’t hide their relationship and for us to not be allowed to comment on the fact that ML is taking over KOC previous ride is silly. If Dom Schramm took over the ride on Bellamy I don’t think anyone would be shaming people for commenting about it.
Everyone unruffle your feathers and carry on!
[edit]
Frankly, all I care about is that the horse’s welfare (any horse’s welfare) is considered first and foremost. The longer I’m involved with horse sports the more I realize that:

For all of you that are calling me out - you missed the original snark that WD posted in response to Hannahsmom. After I posted, and why I posted what I did, she erased it.
I firmly don’t care about people’s personal business, I stand by my opinion of the comments. Now you can see that other people do too.
Sad that the rest of you had to jump in and then make this a topic.

Without going into details, those two examples are not the same for obvious reasons that were stated in a previous post.
So …
Anyone see any good movies lately?
