WILL/SHOULD THE HORSE WORLD BECOME POLITICALLY CORRECT?

like you, and I think it is “hair fascist.” Oh wait, that’s 2 words. In any case, I will shave when and where I want, and if I pick an algae-covered rock-strewn river that is MY RIGHT. Furthermore, one day there WILL be a just redistribution of quality razors to all. NO MORE disposables, no more stubbly underclass.

PT,

I am ROTFLOL after that one!

It’s all about ME, ME, ME!!! (The only signature worthy of a real DQ.)

if we all spit in a glass and took an eye dropper full out could you tell which spit was yours (without a DNA test because I know you’ll throw that in there to get things off subject again). Seeing as I’ve contributed to the collective pool I see no problem with me taking some out if I need help, same as if you were in need of help.
Now as to why I can’t pay on my own: there’s this thing called debt that people usually acquire when they are still transitioning from having everything paid for them to paying for things themselves. Now, while I wasn’t out running up a huge bill buying myself furs and new saddles, I did have a few emergency situations where it was necessary I use it, such as when my dog was attacked by a bob cat and I had to pay for her surgeries (which was over $1000.) Add on a few college books (which are prolly a bit more expensive than when you went to school) college tuition, a deer running into my car and requiring another swipe of the old card and you will eventually amass a pretty good sized debt. Now if I didn’t have the credit card to pay off, plus my car payment (have to have one of those in the sticks) insurance, and school loans (which happen to be a necessary evil if you want to better yourself)I would probably be JUST fine. I buy most of my own food (for me and Kaity) plus all the gas/maintenence on my car. I’m still trying to save what I can for when I do graduate and can get out on my own (hard to do when you don’t have much to save). My goal is to be debt free by the time I move out of my parents house, whether that is attainable or not is a good question. But I’m trying.

And here is what you wrote that I consider an insult (or more the fact that you kept harping on it throughout a few posts)

Ehh… sorry but the very nature of civilized discourse and debate demands that we back our assertions with facts, fat appy.
Once again, substantiate please! What if I said exactly the same thing but substituted the word conservative for liberal How about the word Jew or Chinese? Wouldn?t you want to know that I had more than the philosophies of hate radio as my source. As me dear old dad used to say: Put up or shut up.

I have now provided you with the info you so desired in the form of the URL of the poverty guidlines, what I found insulting about your posts (respectively)and wanting to know my financial situation to warrant me using $14 of tax money, which I put in by myself every two weeks. Now that I have given you all the information you need, can you answer my original question: how is forcing those people to make those kinds of choices not holding them back?

no, no, no, Midge - you got it all wrong… they DO stay out of Other People’s Business, it’s Other People’s Bedrooms that becomes a wee bit of a sticking point. But no promises were made on that one!!

I am very tired of the spineless PC attitudes that Americans are adopting. We are raising children who expect to have no discomfort in their lives. No disappointments. They will be spineless. Sometimes growth comes from adversity.
I make it a point NOT to be PC.

There are winners and there are losers. That’s the way it is. Losers have to work harder to become winners. They can’t have everything handed to them on a silver platter just because we don’t want them to feel inadequate or have their feelings hurt.

Victory is sweeter if you work for it. I wasn’t born a winner. I constantly work toward excellence to get there. Buck up and quit whining!

There is no future in being PC. Just my humble opinion.

You wanna talk equality? Why is it that I’m going to school, working full time, trying to put my daughter in preschool so she’ll have a jumpstart in life (OH NO!) and yet I can’t get any help from the gov’t with daycare costs/tuition because I “make too much $” I wouldn’t need money if I had enough. However, if I didn’t have a job they’d pay for every bit of it. Libs WANT you to stay unsuccesful so you have to depend on them to fight for you and feel your pain.
No, teachers don’t have it easy because they have to put up with disruptive kids who CHOOSE to be left behind (ouch! there’s a concept!) they also have to put up with budget cuts and try to teach those kids who DO want to learn over the ruckus of the troublemakers who just don’t give a flip. You wanna talk about fair? Why are the smart kids being forced to put up with the dumbasses who won’t put thier heads on straight? Why shortchange the smart kids for the dumb ones? Or wait, maybe it’s not the teachers faults, or maybe not even the kid’s faults. Perhaps fault lies with the parents who allow thier kids to turn into whiney pansies who are too scared to let the dodgeball hit them. Maybe they are aiming at the fat kid, but maybe that fat kid needs to do an Oprah and say “so what if I’m fat?” and love themselves for who they are, not what size of pants they wear. Maybe those fat kids need thier parents to guide them and say it’s ok to love yourself, and to get help to be healthier. And just maybe that fat kid’s parents need to say “holy obvious s**t piles Batman! Maybe my kid’s fat because I let him eat junkfood! Maybe it’s not Little Debbie’s fault after all!” Maybe it’s the parents that are causing this whole wave of children who are sullen and have chips on ther shoulders. So maybe instead of trying to think of ways to reform the schools we should start in the homes, hmmm? Don’t blame your kids issues on dodgeball, blame them on yourself. God forbid anyone take the blame for their kids actions. Maybe some parents don’t mind letting thier kid’s education be a liberal paycheck, but I’ll be damned if I’ll ever let my daughter go out in the world not knowing how to play dodgeball, even if she IS that fat kid.
Oh yeah, and FYI, just last year we lost a few thousand people in these big buildings that collapsed because some fruit baskets hell bent on jihad rammed some airplanes into them. Maybe that’s why those few crazy people out there are worried about middle-eastern people, especially seeing how they danced in the streets upon hearing the news of that big building’s collapse. Could that be why people are racial profiling? Makes one’s hamsters start turning the wheels eh? Oh yeah, peace and equality baby, as long as we wear burqas and get whipped in the streets. All in the name of brotherly love. (PS, it’s hard to ride a horse in a burqa)

“I ain’t got a dime but what I got is mine; I ain’t rich, but Lord, I’m free.”

show me the dollar YOU gave for my daughter going to daycare. Ask me to do the same, and I can’t show you the dollar I gave you for road work in your area. I can’t show you where my specific dollar goes. BUT, BUT if you look on my paycheck there is a little line there that shows how much $ of mine, money that I made went into taxes. So basically, since I have a job and I am working and giving WAY more in taxes than I take, I am simply using my own tax money for my daycare expenses. Therefore, if I DID NOT have a job, then you could gripe about supporting me. As is though, you have no right to gripe since I’m putting in to the pot more than I’m taking out. If I didn’t have a job, then that would be sucking off of other people, but as it is, I’m sucking off what I’ve already put in.
And please, show me these words of yours that I have tangled and twisted into a deceitful lie to bring down the liberal machine And you still never answered why you don’t think it’s bringing them down.

“I ain’t got a dime but what I got is mine; I ain’t rich, but Lord, I’m free.”

Hey, you talkin’ to me, HEYYOUNAGS?

That never happened when I WAS THE CHUBBY KID. Like I said, life’s not fair. I was chubby when everybody was skinny, had curly hair when everyone had straight, was always the tallest in my class, 5’4" in second grade…and, go figure, 5’4" today! They say the things that don’t kill you make you stronger…So, give me the damn ball already!

Interesting quote, Snowbird, and something people who support unlimited government handouts should keep in mind. Just ask the Russians, our new “capitalist” friends.

OT, I used to show at Snowbird when I rode in NJ awhile back and seeing your Schooley’s Mountain Road sig. brought back good memories…praying the old trailer would make it up the mountain! In fact, my first show ever was there, a forgettable debut in the “Jack Benny” division for beginner adults. As I nervously waited by the ingate for my turn, I was promptly informed by a woman on a big grey horse named Moose, that she always wins the division, so I shouldn’t plan on it. She was right, she did win! And kept winning that division, year after year after year…It was one of the reasons I gave up the eq division for the jumper division…and went from Jack Benny to Beg. Jumpers, all in the same day at Snowbird, much to the shock of my little grade horse who had never seen a jumper ring. But it was at Snowbird where she and I learned about jumpers together, even won some ribbons eventually, but always had a lot of fun.

whoops, posted twice

I am absolutely with you.

The handicapped ACCESS stall in the restroom is exactly that: a stall that will provide access for a wheelchair or scooter. It is NOT just for the use of handicapped and they don’t get any special “move to the front of the line” privilages. Unless they ask and are granted such by those ahead of them.

Handicapped parking spaces are a little different. They must be left open for the PROPERLY IDENTIFIED handicapped vehicles. They are also supposed to be wider spaces to accomodate ramped vehicles.

My dad is handicapped and so I am very conscious of this. A while back, when he went out to eat, the HC spaces were taken, so he went out to the “south 40” to park to be sure that his ramp wouldn’t be blocked. He fell while transferring from driver’s seat to scooter and because of how far away he was from the restaurant, no one walked by that he could call to. It took 911 1.5 hours to get there once he got to his cell phone to call. He was already dehydrated in the heat.

He said one of the cars in the reg. HC spaces was legit and one was unmarked.

RE: political correctness. I HATE the term and the concept. Simple courtesy and “following the golden rule” will handle name calling and rudeness. But to try and whitewash a country and culture that prides itself on being so diverse is idiotic. And kids need to develop a bit of a thicker skin early on, as life isn’t always going to treat them with kid gloves. Even the current panic about “bullying” in school may be stepping over the edge. There are ALWAYS going to be bullies of some sort in your life. You need to learn how to handle them and move on. Of course, if it is excessive, then of course, someone should step in.

Perhaps if junk food were harder to get we wouldn’t have as many problems huh I have a fat appy (easy keeper, is there an appy that isn’t??) and a fat arab/paint and they are both Christian Republicans. Thier mommy brought them up right
Yeah, the TV thing is kind of ridiculous. It’s easy to park them in front of the TV for a few hours to cook dinner or do homework, and I have been guilty of throwing on a movie for Kaity so I can study, but parents (there’s that yucky word again) shouldn’t use the TV as the sole entertainment, especially not when there are so many things to be done outside
PS, have you ever heard the term McDonaldization? I had to do a report over it, interesting stuff.
“I ain’t got a dime but what I got is mine; I ain’t rich, but Lord, I’m free.”

I was just humming the Internationale quietly to myself and someone poked fun of my shrine to Our Lady Hilary Marxist of the Liberals?

which is why I added a big caveat about my college experiences. I know that I was essentially a white middle-class kid toying with poverty. I could go running home anytime that the going got rough. I didn’t but I could’ve. Just too much pride.

Does the thread remind anyone else of a dodgeball game? Velvet, I’m with Hobson, both philosophically and in objecting to your previous post.

Some people take the term “PC” to mean, “anything that inconveniences me or otherwise makes me uncomfortable.” If it inconveniences someone else, or makes their life more difficult, then the appropriate response is, “life is not fair.”
I totally agree that life is fundamentally unfair. Bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. “PC” is an attempt to mitigate some of the intrinsic unfairness in life that will always be with us. The bar that you refer to, Velvet, was set by those of us who knew we’d be able to reach it.

Equestrian sports have been wrestling forever with abuse and unfairness of the more blatant variety - medication issues, abusive training practices like chips in splint boots, judging that rewards horses that are lunged to death, blocked tails, sored Tennessee Walking Horses. I worry much more about those issues that are happening here and now, than some imagined future of a system so politically correct that there is no real competition anymore.

(BTW, I always use handicapped restrooms if they’re vacant. But if a disabled person wants to yell at me for it, then I’ll just back away from the door, and be greatful that I can do it on my own 2 feet.)

[Rant temporarily over]

LOL, I’ve been very sure to tell my kid (and my nephews) that life ain’t always fair. She can look at those toys all she wants, but that sure as heck doesn’t mean she’s gettin them! I think that dose of reality is the leading reason for Prozac’s popularity.
Emma, do I scare you in a good or bad way LOL? I take it as a compliment, means I’ve made you think
Doesn this mean I’ve lost my invisible poster status?? (not that I posted much before, except to that girl who was griping about having to wear a gasp approved helmet when she rode. (anyone remember that thread??)
