WILL/SHOULD THE HORSE WORLD BECOME POLITICALLY CORRECT?

Such a great movie! “Molasses to Rum to Slaves.” “He’s obnoxious and disliked, you know that’s true” (?) etc…

And to make it horse-related, how sweet was the black horse in the number “The Lees of Old Virginia”? That actor was certainly no horseman.

Oh, don’t even get be started on USPC! CAn someone tell me why a part of our government is paying for advertising space on television with our dollars? Or why they are using our money to sponsor teams in the Tour de France and other athletes?

Makes me nuts!

It’s all about ME, ME, ME!!! (The only signature worthy of a real DQ.)

Thank you Serendipity!!

I kicked their butts on the SATs.

Yeah, they felt the burn.

DMK stop it! The president said he wasn’t trading arms for hostages. Are you saying he lied? Are you? You are rocking my world.

Fat appy, in every other colorful political debate on this BB, our right-of-center members have passionately categorized “liberal welfare-state handouts” as evil tools of satan. Yet here you are accepting them, and Sannois didn’t get on your case for it. I was looking for an explanation. It seems like it’s OK as long as one makes the assumption that everyone else who accepts government assistance is lazy and stupid.

And my position is, so what if there are some people who make a living off welfare? Most people who use is are like you–they need some temporary help getting back on their economic feet. I really don’t care that some people are working the system with no plans to get off. The cost of supporting them is ridiculously low compared to what we pump into tax subsidies for fatcat corporations and donations to the defense industry–it’s negligible in the national budget picture. If that’s the cost of at least pretending to have a humane safety net system, then I don’t mind paying it.

How can anyone argue about giving three hundred bucks to some poor person when we give millions and billions to the likes of Ken Lay? What is Missile Defense (formerly Star Wars) but a giant handout to the defense industry pals of both democrats and republicans alike? Why is it OK to support billionaire CEOs with finance regulations that permit wholesale cheating and stealing from worker pensions, but it’s somehow a “liberal” travesty to help someone feed her kids? If we are going to reform human welfare, then I think we also need to reform corporate welfare. No more handouts to Ken Lay (the best pal of Dubya, BTW) and his ilk!

I cant read fast enough, and miss them. well I have been doing Beginner Novice for a little over a year, Which is the lowest I am familiar with. I believe they have unsanctioned Green as grass events in alot of the east coast areas. BN is 2’3 to 2’6 it is supposed to be run under the same guidlines as Novice. Many events keep things low and simple, and a good starter for both horse and rider. Nothing that will make your hair stand on end! lol! After 30 years in the hunters it was a great change. I love it, give it a try. Still trying to stop riding my Dressage test like a hunter rider!

Did someone mention closing the thread? Yeah, shouldn’t be hard… a lot easier than creating alters and deleting posts, I’d imagine.

ROTFLMAO…Ya’ Think???

Sannois, I thought you might be interested in knowing that lefties (generally not the liberals, but certainly us pinkos) are using your signature line to sum up the argument that the Patriot Act is gutting the Bill of Rights. You go!

The question could have been asked without being so inflammatory…specifically the first paragragh.

Such a lovely attitude. Your whole life is one extreme or the other: you’re either number one or you’re nothing. No middle ground.

You must be such a happy person.

"wait a minute…

who was it in the 80’s that was helping the Taliban…arming them…training them in warfare…??"

SSSSHHHHH-BGoosewood, we aren’t supposed to TALK about that little mistake…just sweep it under the rug…

Yeah, I still don’t think I need to play team sports in order to succeed in life. I don’t happen to be highly competitive and don’t ever wish to. Should I be kicked out of society? Like I said, if others learn the game of life through sports, great for them! I learn the game of life in a different way.

DMK had me on her side until this part. I thought the screening had something to do with unfortunate haircuts and steroid-thickened necks.

and Fat Appy has gotten an answer, I think this thread is finally going to sleep… Or is it? We do have one thing in common, We are all horse loving Americans!

cweimer, I think those things are better handled at the state and local level.

hobson, I am more than happy to have my taxes support schools, since an educated populace is benificial to everyone. I fall between you and Velvet on the kids issue. If you choose to have kids, you should be able to support them. If you fall on hard times, that’s when the support system steps in.

I have an acquaintance whose favorite refrain is, ‘I wish I could afford a horse like you but I just don’t have the money.’ Well, he does have the money, but he chose to have children instead.

Just because you’re not paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.

Just when we’re getting around to the really substantive issues, like vinegar versus ketchup!

If we solve that one peaceably, we can ease back over to the issues of lesser emotions, like welfare, and school class tracking.

Hope your bruises are healing. Now go away, so we can get back to serious business!

Wow, Stephanie, that is SO cool!!

I love Frontline. They make every effort to show both sides of a story, rather than just selling ad shares. I watch PBS a lot since we don’t have cable.

Sannois - don’t take it too personally. They’re a collective, so clearly they do have to process this new situation to come to a consensus. It took me a while to adapt to the idea that you weren’t an outspoken leader of the progressive wing, an idea I had formed based on your sig line, which I’ve been loving for a year…

Who has the dodgeball now? Maybe they could lob it over into the corner to break up the meeting? Aim for whoever is blocking consensus!
