WILL/SHOULD THE HORSE WORLD BECOME POLITICALLY CORRECT?

Sannois,

Just stretch it out across the entire line, don’t cut it short and wrap it.

It’s all about ME, ME, ME!!! (The only signature worthy of a real DQ.)

Don’t worry, Velvet, we’ll either have smothered ourselves with pollution or blown ourselves up with nucular weapons before democracy reaches its expiration date.

(Incidentally, what were the great failed ancient and medieval democracies? I thought the democratic political ideology was a relatively new phenomenon and heretofore was only aware of 20th century democracies that failed because of European and American meddling to install pro-business dictatorships?)

I’m fairly sure that’s a Nixon quote. Heh, heh. Along with “Everyone should go to the church within walking distance of them/closest to their house”…

Good thing, it wasn’t me Midge or I might have ripped her a new one. And no, I’m not just mean. But just because you’re handicapped doesn’t mean you go to the head of the line. And why on earth might they need a stall more quickly than someone who has been standing there 10 minutes already. Most of my handicapped friends make it a point not to act handicapped. But I have a co-worker who milks it and is just rude to boot.

I don’t have time to look it up but I believe ADA says you have to provide suitable accomodation for people. It doesn’t say it has to be instantly available. In the case of parking spaces, it doesn’t necessarily mean closest but accessable.

What about when a woman walks by and men catcall or whistle, or make inappropriate comments? Yes, technically that is illegal under the heading of sexual harrassment, but it’s not something that’s often brought to court. I think what bgoosewood was saying is that in an un-PC world, who’s to say that it isn’t alright for men to do such things? Who’s to say women aren’t objects, and shouldn’t be treated as such?

Political correctness dictates that women are as much human beings as men are and deserve to be treated like it. The only ones it “hurts” are the men who felt that women were objects.

Unfortunately, I can’t be as articulate as some of the posters - excuse me if these are just stray ramblings.

Velvet: you are a mature adult, and your views on birth control are surprisingly simplistic. Condoms may be readily available, but the failure rate is quite high. While I agree that birth control needs to be easily accessible, it’s not the only answer to unintended pregnancy. (I have a friend who conceived while both on the Pill and using a condom! We like to tell her that her daughter is probably an alien spawn.)

And considering that you and Fat Appy are theoretically on the same side of the political fence, why are you arguing against everything aspect of her situation? Shouldn’t you two be swinging at each other, rather than at Us accursed liberals?

And another rant: Why does it always seem that conservatives accuse liberals of whining and complaining that we have suffered from inequality? Most liberals I know, myself included, are arguing in favor of our policies from a position of relative affluence or success. Granted, I have issues with dodgeball, but outside of physical education, I was better off than many, and never thought otherwise. Not only am I a member of the class that sets the bar, I’m from a class of people that was handed a little ladder (but not a tall ladder ) to make reaching the bar a bit easier - i.e., I’m from a white, middle-class, well-educated family.

And dang it, dodgeball is not a way to encourage chubby kids to get exercise! Showing them a skill that they can accomplish and enjoy longterm strikes me as a much better form of physical education. It is about education, isn’t it? Or does the conservative ideology equate punishment with education? If so, I hope there aren’t conservatives training horses.

I think it’s a good idea to close it, it’s getting way OT I am pretty sure you can actually do it yourself, since you are the original author.

Good point, hobson - I believe you sent it my way in response to boggling the collective BB mind on Medicaid issues…

So YEAH, yd, I AM gonna stop you!

I know I said it was time to close this thread yesterday, but as i didn’t know how, afterwhich my computer seemed to collapse from exhaustion, I went back to work (in longhand. Thankfully, after a good nights rest, my MAC was up and running again.

Thanks to DeeDee/Dublin, who was nice enough to email me about how to close a thread.

But then I saw there were 6 more pages than there were when I quit last night. So maybe it’d be rude to shut it down? If people are still posting and if the moderators don’t mind, I won’t lock it up until it runs out of steam. But could someone at least try to get it back on the horse track again?

That link is EXACTLY it!!! God I am feeling oh so light headed! We may not agree on everything but that one there is NO question. I still love the national anthem and God bless America and America the beautiful, Yada Yada Yada. Going off to get a cold rag for my head!!! Phew!

you’re right-I was overreacting-possibly due, in part, to being misquoted earlier. I love a good arguement but petty meanness is a hot button issue with me as are lies and distorations.

You’re an eventer-right? One of the goals Ive set for my 50th birthday (3 short years in the future),is to show in one baby event. And by baby, I mean just about as basic as you can get and still be consider an event. What should I be expect at the greener than grass level?
[HIJACK OVER AND OUT-RESUME REGULAR BICKERING]

I assure you that if I were able to pull my daughter the whole way to town, to daycare, to school and back on my thrifty cheap bicycle I would. However, since I have a rather long ride, I prefer to drive. Don’t sit there and gripe about how rough you’ve had it when you could have easily gone back to your parents house and lived happily. Pride is pride, and it’s your problem if you didn’t want to accept any help except that which came from the taxpayers. My parents don’t help with my tuition either, which is why I have student loans. So sorry for being in debt just because i want to better my life. For that matter, I don’t even know why you are comparig the two paths we took because they aren’t even the same. The only similarities are that we’ve both been in college and taken help from the gov’t at one point in time. I have a daughter, you didn’t. I live in BFE, you didn’t. I live with my parents, you didn’t. I pay about $150 a text book, I’m assuming you didn’t have to (and that really wasn’t a jab I was trying to throw, it’s just a lot changes in 20-something years.
as for the dogs and other animals, as I have said before I live WITH MY PARENTS the dogs belong to them, I helped out with the credit card because I happen to love our dogs. THEYpay for dog food. Go back and read my post again about how I’m able to afford it. Apparently the only thing you get from any of my posts is “blah blah blah blah entitled blah blah blah liberal blah blah povertyblah blah blah blah and blah.”
and to repeat the question that you seem to have so much trouble comprehending: When they take away food stamps from a family because they go even a little bit over the limit, what is that family supposed to do? Do they reduce the hours they work so they can stay on food stamps, or do they tighten thier belt even more than it already is and try to feed the kids on the extra 20 cents they make an hour. Tell me how it is that forcing these people to make these decisions is NOT holding them back and keeping them in poverty. That’s all I want to know. Can you please answer me?
