I wish they had a few more random searches at my work, I wish they had more random searches in bus stations, etc. I feel MUCH safer knowing that EVERYONE is searched, not just the random Muslim that happens upon the security guards path. HOWEVER, how can a guard truly do a “random” search when if he searches a person of ME decent, he’s accused of racial profling? Same with people getting stopped because of the car they are driving. Maybe that kid in the SUV was driving like an ass and that’s why he was pulled over, but who cares? Throw in the idea of racial profiling and the whole case of driving like an ass goes out the window. Who cares that the cop pulled him over for a reason. that reason is gone if they decide it was racial profiling.

Trust me, I’ve heard lectures favoring just that approach. That’s enforced socialism, and I’m agin it.

But you seem OK with enforced state-supported capitalism, in which we must donate our money through taxation to whomever society deems worthy–in this case US companies who whine for higher tariffs and tax subsidies, and who then turn around and take the jobs to Malaysia? Or cook the books, ruin their worker’s lives and then cry for rescue?

pt,
You’re right! And yet, it was based on democractic ideals and they have prevailed to this day (and grown like a hydra ).
I think we really need push the national government out of what should be considered a states affairs. I mean, if we did that, we might have a much better run and more interesting country. Just think about it…outlawing the use of draw reins in one state so everyone who loves them leaves and moves to another state.

Sandbar–that’s been one of my issues. The road should go both ways!
As for dodgeball, the way I remember it being played was with people running against a wall with others deliberately aiming balls at them and trying to hit them as hard as possible. This is different from soccer and football where the goal is…well, the goal. It’s not people, which allows bullies to isolate a person and pick on the mercilessly.

OK, perhaps I was a little snippy this morning–sorry. But if YOU had to shave in a river last weekend you’d be too, HEIDI. Missouri is great. Love Missouri. The corn, the river, the whatnot.
Fat appy, you’ve got an expensive hobby but need government handouts to take care of the kids? Is this not a big no-no on the right? Where are your bootstraps? Why are our right wingers not jumping on fat appy for this? Handouts are OK as long as they go to wealthy corporations and suburbanites?
As we know jl, republican presidents never lie. True, sometimes they can be coke-snorting, “pretzel-choking” (raise your hand if you believe the pretzel story) alcoholics, but they definitely do not ever lie. Except when asked certain questions about certain activities of a certain ex-secretary of state (whom I won’t name, but it rhymes with “Pissinger”) that certain other nations would like to put on trial for his crimes against humanity. You’ll notice that this person NEVER travels to Spain. They’d arrest this fine republican and throw him in the slammer. Or a nice hotel like Pinochet got to stay in.
But he was calling specifically about the Middle East.
Have you ever really listened to him??? Not just what others say about him?? You would be surprised. Thats all i have to say.
And I think you guys have fat appy all wrong.

I still don’t see why they banned one and not the others or really any of them. Learning to work as a team is a good thing and so is the occasional failure at something. How can you appreciate the wins if you’ve never lost. Where’s the incentive to work hard to win?
And why wouldn’t this ultimately spread to horse shows? Not being difficult, really trying to “get it”.

Oh, no, I’m not trying to be difficult either. I just think that dodge ball is not about teamwork but about “ganging up”. It’s really more of an “every man for himself” type of game. I think soccer would work much better at teaching teamwork. And I do disagree with an outright ban…I mean aren’t there enough kids to divide them up? Dodgeball here, XX relay running here & soccer here. You know, I have heard that a lot of schools don’t even have gym anymore. I think it has to do with money and failing schools and trying to teach them how to read instead, I don’t know all the details.

but my parents help me with my horses. Not a lot, but they do help with hay in the winter, and my horses aren’t [deleted] requiring round the clock nurturing for their 5 million injuries resulting from being locked in a stall at all times. here in missouri, when you part the corn (which doesn’t grow here except for feeder corn BTW) we have these things called pastures that horses stay in and thrive on. My parents happen to own a lot of land, and allow me to keep them on it, which means free board for me. Since they are on pasture, I don’t have to feed them from about March to October. I don’t show, I do all shots myself (except WNV) and I don’t have to keep shoes on because my horses were blessed with good feet and I only ride about twice a week. I’d say I spend, max about $20 a month on anything horse related (except in the winter time, when I work extra hours to pay for hay). And what has my contribution been this year? I’d say plenty, if you look at my tax return. I’d say I funded my fair share of road projects as well.
Government assistance isn’t something to be abhored and hated. It was put there for people who need help getting on thier feet. I wouldn’t have needed help if I weren’t raped and left with a baby to take care of, now would I? I’ll tell you exactly where my boot straps are: either at work, giving riding lessons, in college, or taking care of my daughter. And I do not hate liberal handouts. I hate the people who make those who need them stay on them, and I hate the lazy asses who take advantage of it and don’t bother trying. If you had read my posts instead of looking for things to put in bold, you’d have understood this. I wasn’t saying in that sentence that I was entitled to it, I said that wasn’t the case. Just a question, did you use a calculator a lot during math classes? And here’s a new adjective for “liberal” policies. How bout “[deleted]” policies. There is that better?

I beleive you’ll find what you want right here:
http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/poverty.htm
That gives you poverty guidelines, but I only skimmed it so I don’t know if it will give you exact names/dates/office hours/marital status of each individual person on the research committe, but this looks purt near close as I kin git.
So now that you know who makes the guidlines, can you answer my question? (you’ll prolly have to scroll a bit to find it now)

I can NOT believe you guys are still at it…Here I am, been trying to figure out what the difference is between a Devil’s Advocate and a Pot-Stirrer, and this freaking thread grew 9 pages in one day!!!
Did someone mention closing the thread? Yeah, shouldn’t be hard… a lot easier than creating alters and deleting posts, I’d imagine.
