15 inches of snow. -5 today. Welcome to winter! Dollar says thanks for the new neck cover, Mom!!
Looking good, Dollar!
Was hoping to see other wintery horse pictures too! Let’s see 'em- bundled, naked, running wild.
I’ll check back in with pics later this week. It’s 65 and sunny here currently. Wednesday the low feels like temp is 10.
While not that cold to most folks, it’s a fairly drastic temperature swing. And we are not acclimated to any kind of real winter.
Winter wonderland here. All born and raised Montana horses except my special little heart horse thoroughbred who’s been a pasture pet for the last 3 years. He gets a blankie. Had a week of -25 degree temps. Supposed to warm up to the 40s rest of the week. They are on round bales 24/7. We have a creek that runs the property and I bring hoses home to thaw in my basement every day.
Now that’s hardcore. Love it
A gelding in one of the sanctuary fields at the rescue I volunteer at who apparently got bored after getting out of and destroying his blanket…
And my favorite bay-colored pony with snowflakes that stayed on his nose and eyelashes
Where you you located? I like your winter!
I’m between Pensacola FL and Mobile AL. It’s dang cold for us this weekend with lows in the 20s but it’s definitely not prone to snow and ice!
20s is cold!!! for sure.
Everything below 50 is cold imo! I do enjoy looking at your snow pony pictures though! How cold is there?
We have gotten above freezing every day at least but the wind feels very cold. Still sunny cold is much more manageable than cold wind for me.
It’s a balmy 14 today in southern WI. Last week we got a bunch of snow and then below zero temps. This next week it’s in the mid 30s and rain/snow.
I never used to use the neck covers but find they make a huge difference and the horses seem to enjoy the extra warmth.
Baaaahhhh! Below 0 Absolutely frigid!!!
I’m partial to neck covers myself. I especially like the detachable ones. Provides a lot of flexibility; which I find super useful in my climate.
We gave skijoring a try today!! 14 degrees and actively snowing. Charlie was up for the task and took everyone back to a childhood snow day!

I love this!! How fun to either ride or ski behind.
So you have a death wish?
Actually, this looks a lot safer than videos I’ve seen of people skijoring without a rider. Let’s see, manage the lines, the traces and your skis–it always seems like a recipe for disaster. Or maybe I’m just seeing it through the lens of my own total klutziness.

No mishaps whatsoever! We also had sleds
I’m with you on skijoring without a rider, Im not near good enough on skis and with having to have gloves and all the winter gear on, plus reins, plus something to hang onto… I’d get discombobulated.
The skis alone would result in me faceplanted in the snow, without any help from a horse.
