Winx, the wonder mare from Down Under.

He isn’t on equibase because he didn’t race in the U. S.

In Australia, he raced 13 times and won 5. He was a Group 3 winner and G1 placed.

Here’s his complete record: https://www.racingaustralia.horse/InteractiveForm/HorseAllForm.aspx?HorseCode=MzMzNzAxMjgwMA%3D%3D&src=horsesearch

Very cool article on I Am Invincible… almost a rags to riches story for a race horse stallion; bought mostly on looks and ends up throwing offspring that can really race.

Will be interesting to see what he brings to the table with the Winx breeding. Or, will she be another one of the great race mares that doesn’t really produce herself. Time will tell.

Love that his owners aren’t against shuttling. Would love to see him stand here in the States for a few seasons

He is, for sure, a looker!!

Aha! Thanks for that! Seemed odd, and I did not connect that Equibase only has U.S. results.

I think he was a nice choice on Winx. Have to admit I was a little bummed to not see her go to American Pharoah who shuttles there; don’t necessarily have to shuttle her across the globe. Yarraman also stands a son of I am Invincible who is equally as stunning in the flesh.

Yarraman Park Stud’s Harry Mitchell is obviously thrilled.

From the Bloodhorse article…“he gets colts and fillies and I think it’s a great mating”.

I wonder if there has ever been a horse that has sired only one sex of foal.

I Am Invincible is a lovely stallion. He seems like a great choice.

Update on Winx.

Winx and I Am Invincible. It sounds like a perfect pairing.

Dumb question: Do they mean northern hemisphere spring or southern hemisphere spring?

She was bred on southern hemisphere time, so it would be their spring.

Thanks LaurieB. That’s what I thought but needed confirmation.

Tomorrow night US time is the Cox Plate… won’t be the same without Winx…

“…the champion mare appearing far more likely to return to the breeding barn in 2021.“

It’s wise to give her some time to rest and heal. It sounds as if there were foaling problems, along with or that resulted in, the “stillborn” foal. :pensive:

If a mare’s foal is stillborn or dies shortly after birth, it is unlikely that the mare will conceive again that same year unless she foaled very early in the breeding season and is bred back late (which was not the case here.)

I am sure her people will make the best decision for her. If she were to be endangered by being bred again, I bet they just don’t.

Of course they need to wait and see how she heals. But it would not be the worst thing in the world to let her be like Rachel Alexandra, just hanging out with friends. Winx has given us enough pleasure and owes her fans nothing.
