Winx, the wonder mare from Down Under.

What an incredible horse!

I didn’t realize that at the 200m mark Bowman had dropped his whip

Red Excitement ran a fantastic race and almost pulled off the upset!

Only got to see it just now, after an early rise/long day yesterday for more training.

Wow - she can pour on the drama! What a thrill!

Winx goes for #20 on Saturday in the Colgate Optic White Stakes G1 at Royal Randwick at 3:15pm (which I think comes out to 10:15p PT tomorrow/Friday night).

She’s got some of the same horses that she’s beaten in her last two races in the field. I think she’s breaking from gate 1 (inside).

Winx is now 20 for 20 in the George Main G1 (the “real” name) stakes at Royal Randwick.

For me (not being familiar with her running style) another come from behind win but a more decisive win than the last two I’ve watched.

Found a video!

Absolutely incredible mare, and clearly her running style is designed to give her people a heart attack.

clint, exactly my thought last night as I watched her break slow, settle third from last and only start moving up late in the far turn. My heart has been in my throat for the 3 races I’ve watched her run

Sounds like she has a few more on tap before her try at a 3rd Cox Plate. She’s supposed to run in 2018 and hopefully appearing at Royal Ascot. Would love to see that pan out.

Just like that other Street Cry daughter, you know ZENYATTA!!

Great mare. Thanks for posting these links.

Winx going for #21 in a row tomorrow night (well, Saturday :)) at Flemington, a track she’s never race over before.

PT is 9:15p PT. Will be on TVG.

#21 in the books for Winx in the Trumbull. She made this win look easy on a track she’s not raced over before.

Hugh Bowman said before the race he was a bit worried as this race was counterclockwise which isn’t her best direction. The other races this year were clockwise.

Next up is the 3rd Cox Plate.

Amazing!
Here’s a video.

Entirely in a hand ride!

CVPeg, thanks for the video… I went to bed right after the race so video wasn’t posted yet.

She looked great!

Sounds like some talk that’s she’s winning her races against lesser company. She has beaten quality horses. Yesterday, she beat Humidor who was supposed to be her strongest challenger yet and didn’t look like a strong race for him (he never really challenged for the win.)

Sounds like maybe low level rumblings that she’d go to Royal Ascot next year but nothing official. I suspect the connections are taking it one race at a time.

Fantastic race by a fantastic mare. She is such a thrill to watch. Leading up to the race, Hugh Bowman actually said she prefers running counter clockwise - “the Melbourne way” - so he was pretty confident she would run well.

Thanks so much for the video links, everyone! That last race was so well in hand and effortless…

Where’sMyWhite, the same rumblings were circulated about Zenyatta - well, she only won because she faced lesser quality horses, she never travelled much, blah blah blah… even after she won the Breeder’s Cup Classic. Because only low quality horses run in that race, you know… eyeroll

Eh…I get that Australia is a long way from anywhere, I’ve been there twice, but I also know it’s a much smaller population of racehorses than the US or Europe, in a much smaller concentration. I hope the notion of shipping her to Ascot is more than just floating around as a vague idea. Winx is beating up the same Aussie horses over and over, not Euros or Americans. Black Caviar, after all, went to the UK. Winx’s owners really ought to think about doing the same.

There’s no comparison.
Winx runs in open company.
Zenyatta ran all but two of her races in restricted company. She only won one race in open company.
Any horse can line up to race against Winx every time she goes in the gate, or ‘barrier’ as the Aussies call it.

As to what she has beaten, she has beaten current BC Turf winner Highland Reel, who is G1 winner on three continents and arguably one of the most consistent horses in the world the last several years.

Thank you for the link! What an incredible mare
I feel like a traitor tho, my favorite is Happy Clapper (not sure if that’s how the name is spelled)
