Winx, the wonder mare from Down Under.

That was always my beef with Zenyatta. Running with the girls mainly in CA. When she came up against a tough male, Blame, she couldn’t get past him. When people compared her to Rachel I always felt my eyes rolling around in my head.

I hope Winx does make it to Ascot!

!!! So what was Zenyatta’s first Breeders’ Cup Classic, then? Where there not “tough males” of assorted ages in there? And her loss to Blame by a short head in her second BCC was probably her greatest race… she was waaaaaaay too far back and yet just missed him at the wire after a monumental run. Many champion “tough males” finished behind her. I have never understood why it was necessary to downplay what Zenyatta did when she showed her class in top company…

Rachel “ran with the girls” except for 3 races… the Preakness, Haskell and Woodward… in turn, Zenyatta had 2 Breeders’ Cup Classics. I wish they had met up in the Apple Blossom Handicap in 2010 as was planned before Rachel had to bow out… that would have been an amazing race even if it was just girls…

I am sorry that your eyes rolled around in your head when someone dared to compare them… but both Rachel and Zenyatta were amazing…

I Love it when the girls run with the boys. This horse is amazing. I hope she continues to win against all. Rachel, Winning Colors, Genuine Risk, etc.

“Except for 3 races”. Hahaha! Her Preakness win is one for the ages and the Woodward, well that is a battle that will live forever. Zenyatta was not going to get around Blame no matter where she started her run from. She was simply outclassed. And who did she beat in the 2009 BC?

@WildandWickedWarmbloods, I’m with you! It’s so rare to see a mare winning race after race against the boys. Winx is so fun to watch. She’s very workman like, just chugging up to take the lead and cruise over the finish line!

Hahaha??!

I am not sure why you insist on diminishing Zenyatta - but whatever. She beat tough males in each of her BCC races… whether you approved of the field or not, it was the big field of that year at that time and she ran by them from way back. Rachel regrettably never made it to the BC. Zenyatta also won the Distaff - so did well at BC three years in a row - but that is not good enough, I guess. :frowning:

Rachel’s Preakness and Haskell were amazing - but are those not restricted races? 3 year olds only? So when Rachel ran restricted races (girls only, three year olds) it was okay - but not so for Zenyatta. My guess is that if Rachel had run in Z’s first BCC and won the same way, it would be awesome for you. Yet Zenyatta does it - and it means nothing.

And yes, I think that if Zenyatta had not been so far back for her second BCC, she would have nailed Blame at the wire - in her usual heart-stopping style. She was coming with a rush - but too late.

I prefer to acknowledge TWO great Thoroughbred mares - both Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta … along with the amazing Winx, Black Caviar, Goldikova, Miesque, Ouija Board etc.

Winx has one more race in Australia - the Group I Cox Plate on Oct 28, then she’s going for a trip!

Jockey James Doyle has raced against both Winx and the Arc winner Enable - favors the latter slightly.

Would be something if they raced together next year, although Winx already 6, and Enable just 3.

(I loved both Zenyatta and Rachel - lucky to see Rachel’s Woodward. Could never pick one over the other. ;))

Winx isn’t committed yet to Royal Ascot.

Suspect that decision will be made after she runs in the Cox plate how she comes back after that.

I know I’d love to see her at Royal Ascot but quite a ways to go to get there

Winx v. Enable at Ascot would be a something to see!

Winx is going for the 3-peat this weekend in the Cox Plate. Only one other horse has done that.

Friday night our time (haven’t looked for a post time yet).

Update: Post time 11:00pm PT tonight (Friday) on TVG.

And she did it again! 3rd G1 Cox Plate win in a row. Broke her own record by .04. This one more of a nail biter, but (in other reports) jockey Hugh Bowman said he knew she had enough still.

Missed that she was running, WMW, but just happened to wake up to find out on FB.

Looks like it’s still too early to find a complete race video.

But here’s another link with a lot of details - videos are blacked out, but includes a photo of the champ by Street Cry unsaddled in the paddock.
And an interesting list of bets!

That crowd! 32,617 The Aussies certainly enjoy a champion racehorse.
Oh, to have been there…

Great race. She started out looking like it was going to be easy until Humidor made a run at her. She held him off as a great racehorse should.

Talk of sending her to Europe next year but sounds like the decision won’t be made until further down the road and she continues to look her peak.

Wold love to see her at Royal Ascot or the Arc

Great race, and the race caller was perfect. I was hoping Happyclapper would get up towards the front.

Winx is certainly in the history books now.

She’s back!
Link to a barrier trial today. Two weeks until her return to racing in the Grade 1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick. (3/3). Then a Group 1 at Rosehill on 3/24, then decisions for the future, possibly including Royal Ascot!
22 wins in a row over 3 years!

Link to the barrier trial (under Sky Racing), and even to a Jockey cam.

Thanks for the heads up CVPeg

I’ll be looking for her in 2 weeks. A pretty amazing mare!

Hope she does well wherever she goes next.

This Friday night, 3/2, PT 11:30PM ET, Winx will be going for 23rd straight in the Chipping Norton at Royal Randwick.

First race since the Cox Plate October 28.

Kickoff for her 2018 campaign with a possible trip to Royal Ascot (undetermined as of yet).

FWIW, TVG now has an app for Amazon Fire, Apple TV and Roku.

I don’t know anything about what is required to access the feed (ie, just create a user on the TVG web site or if there is more).

But if you need the instant fix for big races or want move overall racing coverage… there you go

I do like TVG as this morning they are covering Meydan and normally on Wed-Sun mornings racing from across the pond. In the evenings it is often racing from Oz and Asia (Tokyo, Hong Kong). And more than just the big stakes races.
