Winx won again!!!
Winx is something else.
#23 in a row (Black Caviar has 25). 16 G1 stakes.
Bowman must have nerves of steel. She broke well but isn’t fast out of the gate in any case. Bowman put her 2nd from last (where she likes to be) until almost out of the far turn before asking her to move. Pace mid-race was reasonable which plays to her strengths. She starts to move straightening out at the top of the stretch and blew by them all.
Winx had had a few other opportunities earlier than the Chipping Norton but connections opted to wait until Bowman has served his suspension(s?) so he could ride her. Given her running style, I think a correct move.
She’d already raced and beaten most of the competition. Candice Hare (sp?) TVG’s international analyst commented that she wasn’t as dappled as usual and maybe not at her peak but still good enough to win.
Still undecided if she’ll ship to Royal Ascot or not.
Ship her to Ascot but do so well ahead of time to give her plenty of time to adjust.
This mare is amazing! She has me way more excited then any local racehorses right now. It would be awesome if she could come to the U.S for the BCC this year but that probably won’t happen.
Was wonderful to watch again!
Is there a link for a Luddite like me?
Just finished watching Winx work at Rosehill.
Jockey Kirren McEvoy was up. Hugh Bowman is currently not cleared to ride after concussion from spill.
Winx is scheduled for next Saturday’s George Ryder (sp?) (a week from tonight our time). The following Monday/Tuesday it is expected her connections will say if she’s heading to Royal Ascot.
She is such a lovely mare to watch gallop
17 G1’s in a row. Winx just won the George Ryder by 3/4 length. :encouragement:
Her come from behind style sure leaves my heart in my throat every time she runs.
Next for Winx will be the decision if she’ll go to Royal Ascot (or what her next race will be).
And again! She is an amazing mare.
Race can be found on Sky Racing’s FB page.
Oh dear. We Luddites don’t do Facebook. Does anyone know anywhere else we might see the mighty Winx?
Google is a very useful tool
‘winx george ryder’ turned up this
the video is embedded in the news article
I almost thought she wouldn’t get up there! I think Happy Clapper was second.
Thanks for finding the link to her race
Thank you so much for the link Where’sMyWhite.
How is it that she knows when she has to turn on the afterburners? (Besides the jockey cueing her) Seems to me a horse would want to run towards the front the whole race unless held back. Doesn’t appear to be her MO, but then I know very little about racing. Exciting and impressive to watch.
Horses have different running styles. Some like to be in front the entire time, some like to race close to the front, some like to come from the back. It also depends a bit on the length of the race as well as surface. Hugh Bowman has ridden her for most/all of her races and knows her well. He knows how long the race is and her style; he asks for the afterburners when it is time and she goes
Others here I know are more knowledgeable so hopefully they will also chime in.
Gestalt, yes Happy Clapper was second, Kementari was 3rd. I think Kementari will be one to watch going forward, he’s only 3
Given the fact that she shares a sire with Zenyatta, perhaps the come from behind style is inherited.
Some horses have a high cruising speed that they can maintain throughout the race, others have a closing kick and have a short, but high, burst of speed. Remember this one from way long ago? Silky Sullivan

Thank you Gestalt. That was fun to see, and I hadn’t heard to Silky Sullivan before. And thank for the explanations.
great to know. she’s awesome
Winx’s trainer, Chris Waller, has announced that she will stay in Australia and not ship to Royal Ascot. Her next race will be the Queen Anne Stakes in mid-April putting her on course for a 4th run in the Cox Plate.
