Wishful thinking? Too good to be true? A scam?

I waited in the regular checkout line at the grocery store; usually do the self-service. They have those interesting magazines with the covers screaming to get your attention. What got mine?

“You can lose 72 pounds by Spring.”

It wasn’t a horse magazine. It’s for women.

Well considering the vast majority of Americans are overweight, I’m not surprised.

 Define “Spring”
If it works, let me know.
I’d be glad to lose 1/3 that # & be happy

“by” spring to me implies like, by the first day of spring, which is march 20th. 72lbs in a little over a month, how impressive

When I was sick, probably with covid (before testing and shots) I really learned how to lose weight. You just don’t eat much at all.I lost 40 lbs. because I was too nauseated to eat and everything tasted weird, but I am sure the principle applies.

If it were 72 kilograms rather than pounds, my first thought would be “divorce your husband.”

I’ve actually read some of those magazines. Each cover seems to feature a different weight loss idea. Some are very simple, like drink a lot of water before meals (to fill you up) and many seem to address a specific nutritional deficiency or physical condition that, apparently, affects a majority of middle -aged to older women, apparently their target demographic.

The weight plans are described by doctors and or other professionals, who are directly quoted. References are quoted and websites and books are mentioned.

They also show actual photographs of (named) women, always women, and how much weight they’ve lost.

I actually like the magazines (I get recycled ones for free in the laundry room) because they have bunches of tips for using natural means for solving/addressing physical and mental problems. I learned how to fix my knees from one.

So, they’re legit. Ish.

They didn’t say what year

As the owner of declining knees… How???

Take ginger, I use 400 mg. capsules twice a day, with/after meals because it’s such a good digestive aid, and an exercise.

The ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory; that’s how it works. Other things are anti-inflammatory, too; but only ginger is $4 at Walmart for an almost-two-months supply. Before trying this I checked with Dr. Andrew Weil’s writings; he’s the dean of natural medicine. Literally dean; he has his own department at a state university. He agrees, but recommends 400 mg. daily.

Ginger works a little bit each day; it takes 3-4 weeks to notice a difference. For me and everyone I’ve told it fixed knee pain. Over. Done. :tada:

Exercise: stand up from sitting without using your hands and with toes no further back than under your knees. Do five times, a few times a day. This strengthens the muscles along the sides of your hips, taking some strain off of your knees. I don’t do this often, but definitely feel it when I do. The ginger works on its own.

Interesting! I have knee pain from an old fall, I might pick some up next time I’m at Walmart.

Now that I think about it, wonder if my horses would eat ginger (one is picky AF), sounds like it might be beneficial for them too

It’s in the Vitamins & Supplements aisle, the yellow Nature Made brand bottle, and probably available other places. But you can’t beat the price! I call it the cheap knee fixer.

Another good anti-inflammatory supplement is Evening Primrose Oil. This really toned down the osteoarthritis in my fingers (LOTS of 10-key work) without any side effects. I went from 6 aspirin a day down to 2 aspirin a day for my aches and pains.

In Walmart if it is not in the supplement section look in the Women’s section, that is where my husband usually finds it now.

Apparently, there are lots of good anti-inflammatory foods and supplements, each with its own plusses and minuses. I take ginger because it’s cheap and has digestive system benefits, which I really need.

ETA: I tried curcumin for a while, and my knee pain came back.

Uh I wanna hear more about losing all this weight? I would love to drop say 25 pounds or so by Spring

70 might be a stretch, but 50 is probably doable. Just not fun.
Eat 500-600 calories a day. When you feel hungry (you will) drink Crystal lite. Make the majority of your calories protein. Eggs, low-fat cheese, chicken.

After about 3 days you will feel as though you are in a constant brain fog.
After 5 days you will stop craving as much food, but cry a lot.
After about 2 weeks you will feel extremely weak.

You can loose up to 10lbs a week doing this. However, it’s an absolute terrible time.

The last issue of this type of magazine said that you do it by making and eating a special yogurt.

Fried chicken?? :crossed_fingers:t4:

Depending on your metabolism this can work with more calories and less trauma.

For me ultra low carb (vegetables only no refined) and moderate activity will suck the pounds off.

But bread is life and I have a wicked sweet tooth so…
