Womanly-sized riders, unite!

So Teddy is the one who outbid me on the breeches, eh? I was wondering if it was a fellow COTHer!
Can we call dibs on e-bay boots in this thread?

So… smart pak improved their smart slims- I got a new pair to try and they are 100x more comfortable- the fabric is a bit softer, they improved the ankles tremendously- they got rid of the elastic at the ankle and did a softer finsih that still stays put, and the rise is a good rise for me- not too high, but not low rider either. Definitely gave me some good compression under breeches- looking forward to using them this winter.[/QUOTE]

I am SO GLAD to hear this! I bought a pair when they first came out and have only worn them once because they were so uncomfortable (scratchy and the ankle elastic hurt). Everyone else raved about them, so I thought I was just being a pill…apparently not! Can’t wait to buy the new-improved version! Thanks for the update!

I must have the old version of the Smart Slims but I can’t fit them under my breeches. They’re way too thick. Guess I’ll have to stick to my control top pantyhose.

Buy some of the improved ones, they are divine.

I need breeches help!!! I am a bottom heavy rider! big butt small waist, small top, I want breeches mainly to school in at this point under my full chaps. I put my full chaps on yesterday after about 5 years of not wearing them, they went on over jeans but BARELY!! my Dd had to help me and she was laughing the whole time , i did not find it funny! I think breeches will be thinner and make getting them on easier. I do not like half chaps, and I LOVE my full chaps.
Any suggestions for breeches that are not too clingy and have a smaller waist and bigger hips? I wear a size 12 or 14 in jeans if that helps you out any!!

Shapelys.

Yeah, I knew their boots did (I tried a pair on when I was boot searching. It took three people to help me get them off again. Ahem.).

Oh my! but I usually can’t get my leg in any stock tall boot so i guess im lucky that wont happen. It sucks because I am a fan of ariat boots

Yeah, they were just barely too small. Just enough that I could get them on with some tugging but it took a whole lot more tugging to get them off again.

This is also why I went for a pair of zip-ups when I found some that fit me (Mountain Horse boots).

ok, I have a picture of me and my mare out foxhunting after getting all my womanly sized attire together. Here is a link…http://www.printroom.com/ViewGalleryPhoto.asp?evgroupid=0&shopperid=8XVNM3BS489W8P0RUV8GMH04QJ0V9NF9&userid=debby&gallery_id=1826872&image_id=1&pos=2

Awesome!

Very nice! I have to ask, what boots did you end up with? I have yet to find a pair of tall boots that fit my massive calves.

Simply Red, I actually ended up buying a pair of black paddock boots and some black leather 1/2 chaps. It did the trick for now.

Sim- That’s what I do too! Seems to be all i can find. Sigh, why do they make half chaps for giant calves but no tall boots?

I agree.I just really don’t want to spend $$$$ money on custom boots at this time. I did find a website called Riders Mall that had the Hispar Boots off the rack in a variety of larger calf sizes. I was a little hesitant about purchasing them though from some of the comments on this thread. They are $240 for the plus size boots. May be worth a try just to see how they were. I think the people that had the problems were people that had gone with the custom option.

There are lots of pairs of Effinghams for sale, some gently used and some NIB that for whatever reason are still virgins - not hard to find in almost every calf measurement. Divine boots. Well worth keeping an eye out on eBay, Tack Trader and Bits & Barter.

Coreene, Thanks for the tip!

Has anyone tried Smokey Mountain field boots? I tried them on at a local tack shop last summer. They are very soft leather. I have an 18" calf and they fit. The local tack store’s web site doens’t have them listed anymore. I googled Smokey Mountain boots and found the manufacturer’s website. It says they only go up to 17". Maybe they only special order the 18" size. I was shocked that they fit. However, they were too short. I need like a 21.5" boot because I’m very tall. I’d say its worth putting a call into them to check. If I remember correctly they were under $200 and I thought the quality was very nice. For now I have a pair of Devon Aire Camdens with the elastic up the back. I had to take them to a shoe repair place and for $80 had more elastic put into the upper part to make them fit. THey are a couple of inches too short, however I don’t do rated shows and I don’t have $800 to do custom boots.

Simbalism- I am one of the people that forked over the money for hispars, got a pair back that are atrocious and no amount of e-mails or calls did any good. So now I’m left with a pair of tall boots that simply are not even the shape of a human leg. I wouldn’t even bother trying them, not worth the risk IMHO.

Coreene- I’m going to have to give that a try! Thanks

Simply Red, Ok that is good to know. I knew I had read in some of the earlier threads about problems. I won’t even consider them then. I got a pair of 1/2 chaps from Arete as mentioned in one of the first few threads and they look pretty good.
