Womanly-sized riders, unite!

I bought Petries boots (the least expensive ones) from Dressage Extensions (DE). I called them up (I have 17 inch calves) and told them what I needed - that size is not in their catalog - plus specified I wanted zippers. Viola - boots that fit perfectly.

And DE is VERY easy and nice to deal with - they get quite a bit of my business just by showing that the customer does count!

Ladies: HUUUUUUUGE news!!!

Did you know Lakeshire Riding Apparel is still in business??? I sure didn’t. And they make THE most awesome breeches for plus sizes in ALL KINDSA COOL COLORS including RUST!!!

I just got off the phone with Laura, the owner, who is so very nice - we chatted for a while and and I just ordered THREE PAIR of the BEST RUST BREECHES EVER MADE. She’s even going to see if she can find me custom leathers for the knee patches in the color I want!!!

I’m ecstatic. Seriously, if the Fuller Fillies stuff doesn’t fit you, try the Lakeshires - they are awesome. You can contact her directly here.

Well, there’s my Christmas miracle right there!

That IS awesome news!
I loved my Lakeshires. Not only were they in womanly sizes, they had a BEAUTEEEful shade of RUST!!
Not orange, but dark rust!
and. they use the flattering leg seam that cuts acorss the leg~ It’s slenderizing!

Does Lakeshire have a Web site? I just Googled them and didn’t find one.

However, I did find Equestrian Collections online and they have plus-size breeches and shirts and things. I saw a Lakeshire jacket but no Lakeshire breeches.

Tack of the Day has Devon Aire full seat breeches in sizes up to 38L today. Snap them up before they are gone

THANK YOU ALL!

I just got my Fuller Fillies chaps and I LOVE them!!! They actually fit correctly! WOW! For some one with short wide calves, I never thought I would find a decent pair of chaps. These are just perfect!

Today on TOTD the Ariat Woodside vest (My favorite, so sad Ariat seems to be discontinuing it.) in black is available in the lg and 2x for 28$. I like this one because it is quilted and has snaps on the side for narrowing the waist.

I hit the jackpot a couple of weeks ago at the Middleburg Tack Exchange. Not only did I finally find after 8 years of searching, a pair of black field boots that fit my calves, but I also found a BROWN pair of field boots, too! The brown ones are actually too wide, so I will be taking them up to Outback Leather to have them taken in some. I am still over the moon about my finds and can’t wait to wear them.

If anyone has an idea about where I could find a pretty sage green show hunter or cubbing coat, please let me know. I love the one that is on page 3 of the Horse Country Life catalog (http://horsecountrylife.com/catalog/cover.html), but unfortunately, I know that it won’t fit across my chest. :sigh: Now that I have both the brown helmet and boots, I’d love to achieve such an elegant look, if possible. I will even settle for some pretty lightweight wool fabric to make my own. Thanks!!!

This thread is fantastic - bookmarking as I am writing a blog entry soon about places that “womanly” sized riders can find appropriately sized clothing.

Not sure if this was listed, but TSC has marked down their fleece vests from 29.99 to 14.99 and they go up to a very generous 2x. I got the xl and normally wear an XL and am very, umm, full, across the chest and this the first vest not to strain across my front. Very comfortable, so if you have a TSC nearby go see if they have any left!

Pale Horse Shirts

Hi Ladies,

I found a deal I could not pass up and purchased 3 Pale Horse Show shirts – size 44. Each shirt came with two collars, they were $20.00 each. But, isn’t there always a “But”… Size 44 is a little snug around the girls for me :frowning: The shirts fit great in the arms, neck, waist, length, but tight on the bust. I wear a size 42 44 D and thought they would work.

If anyone is interested in these shirts, before I put them on E-bay, let me know and send me a PM.

If they’re just a little snug, maybe you should try them with a minimizer bra. Most minimizers will take up to 1.5” off your chest.

Been there, Done that, Didn’t work :frowning: Off to E-bay they go…

Hi Apryl. I am looking forward to slowly purchasing some of the Fuller Fillies line. Will be fun to have something to ride in that isn’t just solid black. Got to breathable since I live in the very humid south. One thing I’ve found is that some of the fuller size chaps and boots aren’t tall enough for me.

I must find a pair of dress boots that I can afford. What’s the opinion on Nittany boots? Can’t quite swing Petrie’s. Haven’t found anything used?

I have had problems finding riding wear for years. I am 5’10" and 200 pounds. If I were a man it would be just right. However for a woman it is futility to try to find anything to fit. I am not full busted but I can wear a Women’s 18 W in a blazer but the riding coats even in a 22 are like a 16. I can’t get my arms down the sleeves.
Breeches are impossible. Men’s are big enough but short in the crotch. Also short in the leg.
I can wear a Marlborough boot in a men’s 10D wide leg but they are not available out West without special order.
I just gave up looking until I got a catalog from 18-24.
Most shops I went into were not aiming at the adult woman. They carried sizes 2 to 16 . They looked at me like I was nuts for wanting riding wear.
I think the manufacturers are missing out by not providing the Women’s sizes in riding clothes.
I had to vent on this as it has been a sore point with me for a long time. SO what do I wear for riding? Jeans. I gave up ever showing. NO show clothes available in MY size.
So I have only the option of having my habits custom made. That brought on more headaches.
No thanks.
