Womanly-sized riders, unite!

I watched The Devil Wears Prada again today, and my womanly sized friends and I (even the ones who are size 10) giggled when the girls considered Andi fat because she’s a size 6. Oy.

Well girls. I got lucky at the Dover store yesterday. I’ve been sooo wanting a pair of smooth leather black 1/2 chaps. Tried on a pair of Ariat All Around III’s in XL and they fit! There’s just enough stretch in the panel. Uber happy!

I’ve done a little unsuccessful digging through this thread for my answer, so I’m probably repeating a question that has already been asked:

What is the basic shape of the RJ Classics show coats? More boxy or curvy? I’m toying with the idea of a schooling show with Wizard and must look the part

Sarah- they are curvy and very true to real life clothes size. I have several in different colors and I love them!

Wonderful- thank you!

Boots that might work, pretty cheap

A catalog and website for womanly-sized individuals is called
Woman Within. The late summer catalog came and has in
it leather high boots with elastic in the calf area. 1 1/4" heel.
Comes in US sizes 7-12 in M, W and WW width. Price is $57
and shipping and even return shipping if they don’t work
is free! They do have a zipper on the inside, so not quite
riding boots. And they are not as tailored as riding boots.
But might work for schooling shows and they do come in black.
Hard to beat the price. Website shows the boots but not the
discount price but you can surely get that by putting in the
right codes.

My fuller fillies boots arrived and they are really nice. The paneling in the back allows for weight gain/loss and they will still fit snuggly. The leather was nice and the boot actually fit shaped to your leg unlike some of the other boots I have tried. I have worn them twice and they are comfortable and already breaking in. The only thing I don’t like is the silver emblem that is on the tab of the boot that breaks up the nice clean line but hey for a boot that fits I can overlook it.

About the Fuller Filly tall boots…

I have freakishly short legs (15.5" from floor to back of knee). It’s absolutely impossible to find short enough tall boots (especially with a foot size 11 ). The short FF boots are for legs measuring 14-15" from ankle bone to back of knee. Can anyone who has these boots tell me what their floor to knee measurement is? My current field boots are semi-custom (Nittany brand, which I have been very happy with), but I broke one leg and tore the ACL in the other, so there’s been a lot of swelling, and who knows how long it will last. The Nittany boots are pull-ons, and there’s no way I’ll be able to point my toes enough to get them on. (I considered taking them to get zippers put in, but they’re also taller than I would like, so I’d just as soon start over with new boots.)

I won’t need tall boots for quite a while, but these boots are sitting in the back of my mind and I’d like to know if I should start saving up.

Thanks!

I had ordered the short but when they came they were too short and I have that exact same measurement…yes short fat legs. I sent them back for the regular height and I think they will break in to be perfect.

Does anyone know how to track down the Arete Iberian II half chaps anymore? The Arete site is down and they are no longer on ebay. :frowning: I’ve googled but had no success with a legitimate link.

Or does anyone have experience with the Fuller Fillies Ali Gater from Smartpak? In the picture it seems like the “spanish top” does not come far back enough and looks goofy in the photo. Or are they better than that? http://www.smartpakequine.com/productclass.aspx?productClassid=7219

Oh no! What happened to Arete?! I have like 6 pairs of their chaps; they are the ONLY people who make nice chaps that fit me just right. Oh, I sure hope they come back. :frowning:

I just ordered a pair of the Fuller Fillies Dress Boots from www.thecurvycowgirl.com and I can’t wait to try them! Apryl at curvycowgirl carries a lot of the Fuller Fillies stuff for the BEST price and free shipping. Check her out! She also carries a tall brown barn boot that looks just like the other expensive brands in the Dover catalogue! I know what I want for xmas now.

Hey ladies! I am a new member, courtesy of this most amazing thread which I have spent the last three days gradually reading through.

My big issue at the moment is field boots. I think I’ve decided on ordering the MH Richmond High Riders.

Just wondering… did any of you who measured between 17" and 18" for your calf width get away with the 8 wides? To get the full 17.3 it looks like I need to get the 9 and I’m worried the shoe part will be too big for my foot that usually takes an 8 in the ariat paddock boots.

My calf measures pretty darn close to 17" depending on the time of day. After a ride its a bit bigger… so would the 16.9" 8wide size be do-able? I’ve heard they stretch a lot but… still hesitant. If it helps, I take an XL in the Ariat half chaps.

Thanks for your help!!!

(oh also, is VTO a good site to order from? I’m in Calgary, AB, not a lot of retailers that carry the MH boots up here for some reason :frowning:

Rescuer, VTO is AWESOME! And 3-4 times a year, they have awesome sales where orders over $100 are 20-25% off (some exceptions–consignment, some saddles, etc).

Has anybody seen a dark charcoal or black with windowpane-type pattern h/j show coat in any of our favorite womanly brands? I’m looking for one that is curvy with an ample bustline. And if it did not break the bank, that would ROCK. I love the look and price of the RJ Classics, but I don’t see any in charcoal or black with a pattern.

Thanks in advance for any leads.

So… Has anyone tried to Ovation Ladies Gold Pro Wide Field Boot… see they come in XW and XXW. I just ordered a pair today and and crossing my fingers that they fit!

I just ordered the FF feild boots in short xw(to have more give if i wear thicker breeches) om sooo excited waiting for them!!

winter boots

Well I know it’s only September but I’m starting to think about winter boots. Does anyone have any recommendations for a warm, waterproof, winter boot that is good to ride in.

A tall boot would be nice, but isn’t an absolute necessity, I can always wear half chaps.

I have huge feet for a female (wear a 10 MEN’S Ariat paddock boot) and an extra wide calf at close to 17 inches. Even when I can find a ladies boot that would fit the length of my foot they are almost always way too narrow.

I’m so tired of freezing my toes off in the winter. :sigh:

Just FYI - the Ovation ribbed suede half chaps (http://www.horseloverz.com/Ovation-Ladies-Elite-Amara-Ribbed-Half-Chap-pr-280209.html) are on sale at Horseloverz and I emailed as a size chart wasnt available and the XL is measured to 17"-18". Score. Perfect for schooling.

I’m new too!

I have a large chest which is a big pain to deal with! I would like some nice schooling shirts in something other than white. I am also sick of wearing two bras when I ride. Ok now that I have vented a local tack store tag along tack (acworth ga) just started carrying Fuller Fillies and I plan to go try them on. I too can’t stand hearing people complain about being a size 8. I have been wearing on course cotten naturals shapely for fall and winter and they fit pretty well. What I would like is the cute fashions in a little bigger size.

Enjoyed reading through the thread

Sweetest young girl in the world is showing (schooling show) next month and I’d like to buy her a pair of light colored breeches to wear for it. Her waist measures 43.5". Does anyone know of a reasonably priced (under $70, if possible) option from a source with reliable shipping times?

Her figure is a bit apple-ish and I’m having trouble with the size charts because her hips are the same size, if not smaller, than her waist.

Any help would be appreciated.
