Womanly-sized riders, unite!

You bet! We even have our own yahoo group! http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Back_Yard_Grand_Prix/
Yeah, even the regular (not the shapely) On Course full seats in the larger sizes only come in black, tan, and white. No navy or grey or beige. Irideon has a better selection of colors in their plus-size breeches.
Check around for Dublin Breeches! I actually have a pair of navy, and a pair of dark teal. The style is called “Arlene” they are knee patch. I am wearing the 38’s in those, but they did come in 36’s too. I hope you can still find them, They came in a few different colors. not just the white, black and tan. They are nice!!
There’s also a seller on ebay that has RUST!!! I bought her breeches for $40 new. Those are Lakeshire brand, and look pretty nice too. If I can remember her name, I’ll add it here. I think she was the one selling the Hispars on Ebay, so maybe you can email her to see if she can still get them?

I also found a lady who can make riding tights in any color and she should be able to make them in our sizes! her brand is called “just for horsin around”

Thanks, twinkltoz!
Now to change my signature, and then off to check out the Yahoo! Group.

I’ve seen the Dublin breeches and wondered about them. How are their sizes? Pretty true to size or small ?

The ones I’ve tried are true to size.

Dublin

Yes, for the most part they run true to size. The navy ones I have are tighter than the teal ones, and they are the same model and fabric!

OK–Arete chaps buyers/wearers…

Has anyone tried the tall-boot-like ones? Are they stiff? the photo looks a bit weird, like the under-the foot strap is too short, but I think maybe the pair is too tall on the model… it seems like the heel part is very low too… ??? They are on sale, and I really, really need something for clinic. I do have Effinghams for shows, but the foot is sooo narrow, I can’t imagine wearing them all day. :dead:

A HUUUUGE thanks to those of you who piped up on my vest threads. I now have a ‘basic black clinic vest’ that FITS!!! Outback Trading Co, size 2XL. It’s actually the old model, in a nylony material. Very sharp.

For anyone else looking, I also ended up with a quilted vest from Cabelas, in a periwinkle/lavendar. Big buttons and a peter-pan type collar, it’s quilted, but the buttons and collar make it subtly different, and WAY cute. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0045057970067a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&No=20&Ntt=womens+vest+&noImage=0&Ntk=Products&QueryText=womens+vest+&Ntx=matchall&N=4887&Nty=1I got an OBTCo oilskin vest from them too–it’s tight in the hips. They have a ‘spring’ vest with standup collar, but it’s backordered forever. Still waiting on an LL Bean fleece vest that is just above-the-hip cut. Most fleece vests are too long and hit the saddle wrong, this should be short enough. we’ll see. For size reference–I’m a 16/18/20 on top depending on brand. Enell size 3 (38DD) for a bra. ALL of the vests fit on top, and all fit in the waist. Only the Cabelas and the OBTCo Grand Prix in 2XL fit in the hips so far.

But–note to self: if you EVER seen vests in 2xl–BUY THEM DON’T WAIT FOR THE SALE!!! I usually can’t justify full price, but it has been sheer h*ll trying to find a couple of nice vests for my week-long clinic. No less than THREE places had them in online stores, I ordered–only to recieve email the next day that they were out of stock. I hope-hope-hope Outback doesn’t change things around too much for next year. They are also the only one that the waist-elastic in the back is in the right place.

shameless bump for the workday crowd… the Aretes, anyone?

I can’t wear ariat half chaps. Aretes work just fine! In fact, they’re a little loose, although they’re snug enough at the top that they don’t slip or bother me. Great chaps for the price!

And today they’re on sale! I’m gonna get myself a new pair today for my birthday.

Yes, I know their regular ones have gotten good reviews, but anyone gotten the ‘tall boot like’ ones?

I can sort of almost fit into the Petries that DE has. For double the price. Would love the Aretes if they are similar… but not if they don’t truly have the ‘tall boot look’ that the Petries (and even more $$ Ariat ones) do.

Happy Birthday!

Bugger. I already have two pair of their suede half chaps AND I got the tall boots, but watch me be tempted to buy some because Chocomare had to let us know they were on sale and I do not think I can resist.

Let me be an enabler…

Look what I found on eBay! http://cgi.ebay.com/PLUS-Reg-TALL-sizes-Black-Arete-Half-Chaps-NO-RES_W0QQitemZ250084716351QQihZ015QQcategoryZ3155QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Again, I don’t know the folks selling, and there were no bids when I posted this (so I’m not messing anyone up!)

The seller is the lady who owns the business (and who posts, here btw). Is anyone going to bid on them? If not, I’m going to!

THANK YOU!!!

Ladies, I just wanted to say a huge “thank you” for all the tips you’ve posted on this thread. I did a thread search for dressage jackets, saw this one and have been so thrilled by the responses. Like many of you, I have a larger chest, wider shoulders, and bigger calves, so finding jackets and boots to fit is so difficult! My tall boots are actually a pair of mens field boots that I bought second hand in Middleburg 5 years ago, but they are too big in the foot. They will do for now (until I get my dressage saddle paid off, then I will buy dress boots…whee!), but I’ve been at a loss for what to do about a dressage coat! I think I’m going to try the Ovation one and see how that goes. fingers crossed
My friend and I both have issues in finding clothes that fit. She took a clinic several years ago with an extremely well-known trainer, and he said something to her like, “Why aren’t you taller, thinner, and blonde?” It amazes me how rude a lot of people are to those of us who are not the typical 5’4", 115 lb. female who ride 17+ hh horses. Kudos to the manufacturers who make clothes to fit more “curvy” women, especially those who don’t charge obscene amounts of money for doing so!

Report on F.I.T.S. breeches:

I just ordered some from Dover - $149.99 on sale. The shipping was gawdawful! I do like them, though. The largest size is 38, and it fits my short, stubby, big-butt self. I do probably look a little like the travelling gnome, but, hey, I like to ride in breeches. I am 5’2" - they could be a little shorter. I was worried the knee patches would be tough or not flexible enough, but they were fine. All in all I liked 'em and would recommend 'em. They have 2 layers and compress you sort of, so I think the cottage cheese factor is minimal, if there at all. All in all, I like 'em!

Thanks dahling! I bought a pair of the Black Olympian Half Chaps. That’s a steal of a price.

LADIES!!!

Tack of the Day has plus-size fullseats today for $45!!!

I am sad, because I really don’t like fullseats, and I need breeks. But… for those of you who like 'em… GO GET 'EM!

Pintopiaffe: That Cabela’s vest is cute! Have you had your clinic yet? I’m gonna go to their website and look for the OBTCo oilskin vest. I LOFF OBTco’s stuff.

And actually, I have to confess, I’m a vest wearin’ fool. They help me be slightly less self conscious about my various bulges, so if anyone has any tips about lighter weight vests, please post 'em.

Edited to add: Just spent a lovely 20 minutes ooogling Cabela’s 3 pages (that’s Three pages) of vests. Hog Heaven. Bought two, one on sale, one the OBTco’s oilskin vest. COOOOOL!

But WTF color is sand? Any breeches gracing my fat arse are black, brown or barf olive-brown. What is sand?
