I agree about wanting things made in North America…but there is no truth in the idea that Pakistan-made goods are not allowed in; they are a member of the WTO (World Trade Organization) - and Bahrs is able to sell them, so they are able to be imported.
The whole issue was…the sender only gave me a tracking number ONCE on the one (wrong height) pair that made it here…each and every other “attempt” I never had ANY tracking or confirmation given…but a whole load of excuses and evasions. The individual said that she was pursuing both the USPS and FedEx for “lost” shipments…so why not give me the tracking number you’d need to do it?
Real shame…I was ready to send a lot more business that way.
Dee
Well that is too bad – but at least you have Bahr saddlery … and not to beat the subject to death… maybe it is different here in the US… but any shipment that shows Pakistan as the originating country IS suspect – while they may be a member of the WTO - it is really hard to get something like that in to a person – FF must use a bonded warehouse in the UK to get shipments to retailers etc. Sooo -I know this why?? Because I work for Fedex  I see lots of weirdo things…
I have two pair of Hispar field boots, and the ones I got this year are much better quality than from a few years ago. I think the bottoms of the FFs look like Doc Martens.

I always pull the boots on, I don’t use the zips.
Where did you get your hipars?

Bahrs wants 399.99 a pair, plus our 13% HST (harmonized sales tax), which makes them ridiculously priced - that is heading toward custom boots! When I do finally get them, it will be through SmartPak!

OMG!! Highway robbery -

Dee have you considered trying Nick’s. He is located in Toronto.
On EMG some have spoken highly about him.
I am thinking about going that route.
I find trying to order the boots over the internet without being able to try them on first to be a pain.

Hello,
I’m new to COTH and as a larger sized rider I really love that this thread exsists.

I have not read through the entire thread but was wondering if I could get a referral for some inexpensive custom schooling half chaps.

Here is why they need to be “custom”. My left calf is 20’’ due to a hemotoma that has formed a scar. The right calf is the large 18". Both measurements are bare skin, not even over my breeches. I probably should add 1/2 inch for clothing and socks.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Someday I would love a nice pair of boots, but just finding half chaps have been quite a challenge.

You know, you’re having some serious problems with the truth today, Apryl. Why come in here and pretend that you are some random person who happens to work for FedEx, when in fact you are the OWNER of the company who farked me around for MONTHS over a stinking pair of boots? I had my heart set on them, and couldn’t get them anywhere else, and you KNEW it…and yet you played me along like an IDIOT (which, thankfully, my friends have assured me I am not-just too trusting) waiting for boots that you were NEVER going to send me. Bless your heart for that.
EIGHT times you told me they were about to ship, or being shipped, or had been shipped…and because I live in Canada (which is not, by the way, outer fricking Mongolia, but a civilized nation that regularly does trade with other countries), you kept trying to convince me that the evil people at USPS/Customs/Fedex/UPS/carrier pigeons were a) stealing my boots b) holding my boots c) losing my boots.
Are you for freaking REAL? And yet aside from the one pair of too-short boots that I returned on MY dime, you never sent me ONE single tracking number even though I asked you DIRECTLY. Really?
I thought I was mad before, but honey, that is NOTHING to how mad I am now. I pray to Heaven that your staunch defender at Fuller Fillies gets a gander at this thread. You got the benefit of the doubt from her, and I even got lambasted by her for not being “understanding” about things like a shipment that was “lost in a tornado” a week AFTER it was supposedly FedExed. You are lucky that she is standing behind you - because after this kind of stunt, I know a lot of people wouldn’t be.
And now, here you are, posting under an alter, PM-ing me to find out alllll about my boots. Do you think that makes you look like a solid businessperson? Seriously?
You had the ability to make it right by actually sending me the boots I paid for, and felt like a kid waiting for Christmas over. YOU DID the right thing by refunding me - at least there’s that - but it was still a blow-off because ultimately, for whatever reason, you were NOT going to send me a pair of boots. Ever.
So, my business goes to SmartPak now. They have amazing service, amazing communication, and don’t jerk their customers around for months.
Angry? That doesn’t even touch it.

Sure wish they did, Vesper…I have been imposing on two friends (one for the boots saga, and another who was very kind for me to get some wickedly discounted FF stuff from SmartPak) who work on the other side of the border to “hook me up” . The latter is on here, and is very much appreciated!
I think we need a COTH drop point close to the US border!
Dee

NC Sue, Hispars in plus sizes come direct from Pakistan. Door to door in about four days. I absolutely love mine.
Something interesting - arent boots are made in Pakistan or something?..I got mine fine - but can see how the boots would get hung up at the border - since Canada does not allow boots with that country of origin to pass — if they catch it that is!!! I wonder if that is what happened… I love mine – why cant manufacturers have stuff made here??
I work for a customs broker in Canada - there is NO ban on boots manufactured in Pakistan. They are subject to duties, but the courier companies contact the consignee for payment. Canada Post does it a little differently - they hold it at the post office until payment is made.

Thanks.

Miss,
You do know the difference between “country of origin” and “country of export”? We’re not talking about goods originating and exported from Pakistan, but goods exported from the US, manufactured in Pakistan, and then shipped north. I set up these shipments all the time. They pass through customs all the time. There is no problem, no issue.

You’re also describing a basic redistribution system. That’s exactly how FF is set up. I know, because I’ve spoken with them on another matter.

Cheers.

And items I’ve received from the UK, a distributor of FF, came as “Made in Pakistan.”

And aptly_asked is correct. You (Canadians in this sense of “You”) can receive items Made in Pakistan (Country of Origin) just not exported directly from Pakistan (Country of Export.)

NC Sue, may I also add that Hispar does a simply DIVINE brown boot as well!

We can receive goods directly from Pakistan as well, it’s just that trade isn’t very large. Based on government trade data for 2010 - imports from Pakistan were valued at only $271 million; exports - $539 million. Compare this to trade with the US: $203 billion in imports, $279 billion in exports. Pakistan trade is about 1/600th of trade with the US!

I’m sure if I dig hard enough I’d find something banned with Pakistan as the country of origin, however that’s the same regardless of whether it’s exported from Pakistan, China, India, the US, or Mexico. Mostly it would be for food safety reasons - or it’s prohibited for import regardless of the country of origin (unless there’s a whole whack of permits and exceptions).

A thought

I have thought a lot about how to reply to this…and the mess caused MissMissippi - first off - MissMissippi is not ME. Only this account is Apryl -I have been mortified by what has happened.

I certainly must apologize- as an “ex” friend helped herself to my computer and email( I have since learned NOT to leave my google with gmail logged in) when she was over taking care of my horses while I was away. Thinking she was “funny or helping” or some idiot thing -was profoundly insulting and offensive in every way possible. I have privately apologized to Dee as this was most offensive to her.

A couple of things - A. FF boots can most certainly be shipped to Canada… they are a wonderful addition - and available for shipping world wide… of course. B. I am working with Dee to come up with a way to make her experience with my company have a happy ending. Not because of all of this… but because life is short… and it is the right thing.

My motto is make amends, make friends and move on.

Looking for the happy ending… Apryl

Are you sure your e-mail wasn’t hacked, and someone else created an alter on COTH without you knowing because you never check that e-mail anymore?
