Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Has anyone tried the EQ Rider tights? I just got a pair and have ridden in them twice… so far love them. I’m hoping they hold up well over time. I also started selling them… so really hope they hold up well!

I’ve seen some of you inquiring about white breeches. The Irideon Cadence Stretch-Cord Full Seat Breech comes in white in plus sizes… 1X, 2X and 3X. If anyone wants help getting these, I might be able to help you out.

I haven’t shown in years and don’t plan to anymore, but I do recall the days of frustration trying to buy show clothing. Any riding clothing for that matter. I’ve since gained weight… but am happy to at least be able to find, and sell, breeches that fit comfortably!

not sure what size you need but I recently saw a pr of 38 dublins that were white on Ebay! I can’t remember if they were used or new, but the model was Hilda… they run nice, I sold a bunch of my dublins last month, the were the only ones that fit me other than the real Shapelys!
I’ll g look to see if I can find them again for you
Oh, Twinkletoz, I hope you see this before they end, she actually has a bunch of 38 and 40 white breeches!!! here’s the ebay link, someone grab them, there’s only an HOUR left!!http://cgi.ebay.com/Dublin-Full-Seat-Breeches-38R-White-NR_W0QQitemZ130100406174QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3155QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem[/QUOTE]

Thanks, I appreciate it, although I didn’t see your post until today! I actually have a pair of these (not sure if it’s the same model but they’re white full seat Dublins), and they’re just a tad too tight in the calves. I’m going to see if I can let out the seam enough to do some good–the knee patch ones I have in beige fit great.

Twinkle, did you look on eBay? If you type in “white shapely breeches,” in the Buy It Now at the bottom there are a few pair. Or try “figurefit.”

Last I checked on ebay all I saw were full seats…do the shapely and figurefit have more room in the calves?

Shapelys with knee patches have much more room than the full seats.

It’s Buying Time Again

Well, my Devonaire tights that have served me well for the last 2 years have now become peek-a-boo tights and I have got to replace them. So the big decision–do I order more Devonaires, oversew all the seams, and expect 2 years of wear from them?

Do I spend almost twice as much and order Kerrits or Irideon or Boink, none of which I have tried?

Do I ask my local tack shop to order Body Chemistre, which I know I love but which State Line doesn’t carry anymore?

For tights, I loff Saddlebums (www.saddlebums.com). They fit very well, stay where they belong and didn’t break my bank account. Plus their sizes are quite spot on. They wear like iron too. I have one pair that are two years old and have been through brush, sticker bushes, etc. without a snag or stretch. I just chuck them in the washer on gentle/cold with Woolite and they come out fresh as a daisy.

I have these: http://saddlebums.stores.yahoo.net/ulridfulseat.html

Show Shirts - Dressage Shirts at Jeffers Equine

I’ve just found some show shirts at Jeffers Equine in sizes up to 40 or 42 (depending on the shirt). They also have a dressage shirt up to size 38.

Here is a link to the show shirts (the dressage shirt is on the next page of the website):

I haven’t tried these but they look nice on the website.

Thanks for the Saddlebums link, ChocoMare. They look good!

I have NOT been pleased with the Boinks I ordered recently. The old ones I have are holding up fine, but I bought a new pair last fall and after two careful, direction following washings they are too pilled to show in or even school in without being embarassed. Boink was NOT helpful at all, said it was their new “improved” fabric. If that’s their idea of “improvement” I’m done buying their breeches.

I own about 7 pair of irideon. I like their summer tights, but they don’t come in full seat, and can feel a little exposed (I guess that’s the nature of tights, though  ), I have mixed feelings about the stretch cord- I hated them at first, now I’m just thinking they need to be worn/washed/broken in to be comfortable. The full seat Wind-Pros are actually my favorite breeches ever, but way too warm to wear when it’s over 60 degrees out.

I have not tried the Kerrits breeches, but they will probably be included in my next dover order! The cargo ones are cute.

Thanks for the input about Boinks and Irideon, CurlyLindsay.

I think I know what you mean. I was REALLY shy wearing tights at first, but it’s been 2 years now and I don’t care as much as I used to. I just wear a big T-shirt over them (but sometimes end up tucking it in and not even worrying about roll of T-shirt fabric under the tights  ).

I’d really like to try the Kerrits but if the 2X fits a person who wears a regular size 18, I’m scared they’d be too tight. Their XL went on, but I couldn’t breathe or move, let alone mount and ride. And I can’t bear to go into my local tack shop and ask them to order 2X. They will order Body Chemistre, however, and somehow XL doesn’t sound so bad.

I just tried their ventilator shirt this week, if their breeches are sized remotely like their new tops are, a size 18 would swim in the 2X. I’m a size 20 with a 42DD chest and the 2X shirt is roomy. See their size chart: http://www.kerrits.com/fitguide.html

I agree about the Kerrits. I just ordered a pair of the summer tights off of ebay because my old ones are getting worn. They’ve been going strong for about 3-4 years now, so I finally decided that I needed a 2nd pair. I ended up getting the black F-low rise tights, and I like them a lot. Actually, I also have a pair of the bootcut tights, which are nice, too, but I’m more self-conscious about wearing those because they’re the periwinkle color and I feel like they show more. If it helps you size-wise or anything, I wear about a 14/16 pants size and the XLs are maybe just tad bit big for me, which is fine because I like my clothes a little roomy. Am really wanting to try their ventilator shirts now after hearing such great stuff about them!

I’m the size 18 (roughly) with the 2x breeches. The new Kerrits are roomy, and I probably could have gotten away with a 1x, but I don’t like my breeches super-tight, and I must be shaped weirdly (for breeches), because I’ve always needed a really big size pair of breeches, even when I was much thinner. I am really impressed with the sizing of the Kerrits breeches and shirt – much more realistically sized than most riding clothing.

To whoever wanted to know, the Kerrits shirt measures 27 inches down the back (that doesn’t include the collar). That’s the size 2X ventilator shirt.

I think I may try the Kerrits 2X, based on what you say, CurlyLindsay and ThreeHorseNight. Thanks!

I found a good price on Devonaire, though, at Miller’s website, and I’m on such a tight budget these days that a good price is hard to beat.

EQ Riders tights

lisacaryl: I’ve been riding in the EQ’s for years. So far they have held up very well. Personally I perfer the stirrups to the grippy ankle closure…just a smoother line and less bulk around my ankle, but harder to find.

I recently purchased a pair of EQ’s “Trillium” tights. They appear to be of a lighter weight than the other’s I’ve gotten in the past (those were simply marked as EQ stirrup tights…no other name)…more of a summer weight. Actaully, unless you get their winter extreme tights, I find all their tights to be more appropriate for summer/warmer weather. I do however, sometimes use them as an under layer in colder weather.

Then again, I’m a cheapy type of person…for years my favorite schooling attire has been three pairs of stirrup pants I bought at Wal-Mart for $15 each. Alas they are now (after about 7-8 years of hard riding through all but summer weather) beginning to wear out. Maybe not the most “in style” thing to wear, but they’ve been comfortable and have held up better than anything else I’ve tried. I just wished I’d gotten more! Haven’t been able to find the same ones again anywheres.

Do they have any sort of knee patches? What kind of saddle do you ride in with them?

My Wal*Mart tights don’t have stirrup feet… nor do they have knee patches. I’ve found that no more than 8% lycra is ideal for riding–more than that they can be slickery. Last time I was there they had some very cute, slightly tailored cotton/lycra pants-tights-leggings sorts of things that I got a few pair of. (em… four… :uhoh: ) for the summer. I don’t get more than two seasons out of them… usually retire the summer ones to long-john status the following winter, but then I do chores in them etc. If I were just riding in them, they’d last better.

Mtngirl,

I’m so glad to hear that about the EQ Rider tights. When I first got my pair I was concerned, but like I mentioned I’m so far thrilled with them. I didn’t want to be selling anything that wasn’t going to hold up.

I don’t think I want anything lighter weight… this seem to be cool enough and being a big girl the thicker the material the better

Thanks!

Just a note, the ventilator shirt is $2 off in the latest sale catalog: http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=9C-20626&qs=1
