Womanly-sized riders, unite!

I like the EQ Rider Tights. I have a pair with the stirrups and wasn’t sure how I’d feel about them, but ended up loving them. They are extremely comfortable. They have winter tights too (just started carrying them on my website), I haven’t tried them yet but plan to.

The TuffRider Pull-On Extra’s (waist sizes up to 42) have been extremely popular too. The price point at $39.95 can’t be beat. It’s a cotton pullon breech.

I don’t think clothing is easy to buy for the under-18s either. I occasionally look at the kids’ tights and breeches for a young relative and they all look tiny (this particular child is tiny, but not all kids are! I was not a tiny kid and had a terrible time finding jods, let alone breeches).

I gave up on Kerrits (the company) when their rep told me they’d changed the seams on their F-low Rise tights because the new vertical seams are “more flattering” than the curvy seams. My response to that reasoning is that I do not feel flattered when I order a pair of tights in the “correct” size and have to send them back because they’re too small. I then ordered a pair in another brand because I have a pair of that brand–this second pair arrived and–guess what!?–they are smaller than the pair I’ve had for about 2 years. The fabric is different–not as stretchy–and while I can wear them, they don’t fit as comfortably as my old pair.

I want to go to the fabric store, find some appropriate material, and try making my own tights using an old worn-out pair as a pattern. I have a sewing machine, I know how to sew; I just hope I can make a pair of tights. I wish I could turn it into a business. I would only make pants for womanly-sized women–anything below a 14 or 12 would be “too small”! :p
THAT would be the thing to do-and if you kept them in the price range of “normal” clothing (if possible) you would make a blamed mini fortune!! I ride gaited stock mostly, so regular breeches like h/j people wear don’t work, I need Kentucky jods, and I can’t find them in my size. Heck, I don’t even know what size that is with the manufacturers. My oldest girl wears a size 11/12, bought her a 32 breech, a bit big, so I would guess that a person who wears 20-24 in street clothes depending on the cut, would have to have somewhere around a 38-42? I am so so lost…

PM me if you start making these.

WellSpotted, Gnalli and others who LOVE tights – Do not despair or warm up your sewing machine. There is ONE company who makes tights that are exactly what you want: tough, well crafted, reasonably priced and THEY FIT NO MATTER YOUR SIZE!!! - One name – Saddlebums (www.saddlebums.com)

I have two pair right now and will be ordering two more (one will be a polarfleece pair for winter). I have the Ultimate Full Seats and the Racing Tights.

The last pair I ordered I did via phone because I wanted to ask for a bit of custom work: I had them add full seats to the Racing Tights because I wanted the padding/cushioning of the crotch since I do long trail rides sometimes but still wanted full-seats. They just added that on for me for a minimal charge. Free of charge, they added an inch to the rise since I’m long waisted–this way I didn’t have to order a tall size.

Now, here’s the kicker, they saved the pattern with my name on it for the next time I order! All of this custom work for about the same price as the big name “brands.”

The man who runs it was once a silicon valley computer software designer. His daughter is the rider of the family and would often bemoan the fact that tights never fit right (would be too short or ride up, etc.). Having finally had his fill of corporate America and its rat race, he chucked it all and went into business - Saddlebums is his business.

Give 'em a try. Trust me. They also wear like iron. I’ve been thru heavy brush, sticker bushes and wait-a-minute vines with no snags, pulls or frays.

Gnalli, I can help there… Showstopper Tack (www.showstoppertack.com) carries the full range of sizes of Reed Hill KY jods. They go to size 42. They’re excellent folks to do biz with, I use them all the time. Be sure and ask, before you buy, whether the jods have suede knee patches or are the same fabric. They even have full-seat KY jods in size 42!

Kerrits boot cut tights arent too hideously expensive, got mine on TOTD, and they look pretty much like KY jods. My size 18 butt fit just fine in the extra large size with plenty of stretch left.

HO-LY CRAP…

Um, not to hijack or anything, but can I order that tremendously hot guy who’s on their homepage wearing the biking-style shorts and the cowboy hat? Yummy yum…

Try a custom house like British House, you can find these shirts on revelryapparel.com. resonable priced and great selection.

wait-a-minute vines

Oh, goodness, I’ve been away from trail-riding too long! I remember those vines–I’d forgotten all about them. It’s time I got back to it … and them.

Thanks, ChocoMare, for the info and the link to saddlebums. I’m going now to check them out!

Saddlebums are excellent. As are Tropical Rider and Equissentials (each of which do custom work).

Sierra Trading Post has Outback vests up to 2XL on sale for $19.95.

Checked out the link and … 2X is listed to fit (14-16)…??

Is that right??

Has anyone bought these who can verify the true-to-sizedness on these?

They run a bit bigger than that. I got one last winter and I take anywhere from a 16-20 on top depending. TMI, but am a 38DD even at my skinniest, with fairly broad shoulders. Ariat XL is tiny on me. Romfh, forget it. TuffRider I can just barely squeeze into the XL.) The Outback Vests in 2XL are roomy on top for me, but just right in the waist/hips now that I am down to just under an 18 but not quite yet a 16 in Lee Rider Jeans/slacks. I’m VERY curvy though, with way ghetto booty. :dead:

So no, they don’t run that small, but aren’t entirely all that roomy in the hips/belly… though I’d say on the generous side up top. They do have 2 way zippers, so you can unzip UP when you’re riding if you’re like me and just have too much below the waist. :frowning:

VERY flattering. Pretty lightweight, just waffle stitched nylon. Shiny-ish. A very classic “clinic vest” though.

(um, I just ordered the purple (!) and the navy. And I don’t wear blue usually. I talked myself TWICE out of the light grey because it’s SUCH a great price, they are VERY flattering, and I WANT… but I can’t imagine ANY situation in which I would wear LIGHT grey around horses. Light purple… yeah. Because it’s my favorite colour AND my stable colours and I’m having my mid-life crisis just a wee early. But really, light grey… :sigh: And I STILL want it. I’d just about sell my soul for a green one. )

Does anyone know when and where the fall lineup will be? Now that State Line is… whatever it is… I’m anxiously awaiting the Outback line’s appearance… The fit is so nice I’m even willing to gasp pay full price… well, ALMOST willing. I’ll kick and scream, but I WILL pay full price for the right size & colour combo.

Not horse related, but thread related, a friend’s hub just got back from the UK, where everyone was dancing to this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tcRiXOONqf0

I love it! Alas, now the tune is stuck in my head.

LOVE it! very high earworm potential…

and to keep this slightly on-topic…can sizing be MORE confusing?!?
I love Body Chemistre, but their XL is …not. Or maybe I’ve gotten delusional.
I now happily have the Kerrits ventilators in all three prints, but also in XL,
1X and 2X. Sigh. the XL is a bit tight. the 1x is a pretty good fit and the
2x is nicely loose (my preferred fit). I’m hoping to get to where the XL is a
pretty good fit and the other two are nicely loose…we’ll see.

Kerrits Ventilators

Could someone please elaborate on the fit of the Kerrits Ventilator shirts. I need to mail order them, so can’t try them on.

Any any suggestions for a mail order source would be appreciated. (I so don’t want to order from Dover if I can help it.)

I found the Kerrits tops in XL and beyond to actually run fairly large.

I’m probably not the greatest judge these days though, because I’m ever morphing into different sizes. But I am a 38DD and fit into most 18/20 tops, fewer 16 or “XL” in wally world/Kmart type shirts. The XL Ventilator fits me fine and is roomy, no need for the XXL. (sadly for my checkbook, so does the XL jacket which cost WAAAAY too much, but fit, and therefore had to be BOUGHT. )

Update for me on the Irideon Cadence Cord breeks… I ADORE them. They fit perfectly in the 2x. Could not go smaller at this point. Probably could go bigger, but as I plan to continue downsizing, the 2x is the three bears’ porridge at this point.

I’m between a Lee Riders Jeans 18 & 16–the 16 is still too tight to, er, SIT in. :stuck_out_tongue: but the 18 are swimming on me. Well worn/washed (read shrunk) Cotton Naturals Shapely’s in 36 are about right, but then again, not quite as the crotch tends to want to migrate.

Hope that helps anyone shopping.

I got my Outback Vests from Sierra, and they’re actually roomy on top now, the bottom is just right. I should go a size down for the top to be tailored and neat, but then the hips won’t fit. :frowning:

Coreene–what is the deal on the vests you posted? What is the back like? Just plain? How’s the fit in the hips? How long do they fit? (i.e. do you ‘sit’ on them or are they right for riding?)

I’ve become a vest junkie now that I found some that fit.

I think I have to actually give up and post some of the stuff that is too big now, or else I won’t be able to justify NEW ones. (pssst… keep an eye on Bits & Barter)

They are great for riding, they are not too long; I wish they were not just straight at the bottom, but oh well. The backs are plain. I got them last year in black, red, brown and navy. I wish the red was more screaming-ass red red red, but I can live with the darker red since it is something besides my normal black. The green color this year is more of a browinsh green and is very nice, but I’m not buying one until they go on sale. I have the four vests from last year and a lovely rust one I got from nhwr, so I need one like I need a hole in my head (but of course I could come up with a good justification anyhow!).

thecollectiononlinestore

Whoever originally posted about www.thecollectiononlinestore.com. THANK YOU! I just got a beaurtiful navy pinstripe (lavender and rose pinstripe) RJ Classics hunt jacket in a 24 and IT FITS!!! It was on clearance for $75! They had another navy pinstripe fo $50, but I thought the lavender and rose would be a subtle change for me. Talk about service! Fabulous. A couple of questions by email, ordered on a Monday night, and it was at the post office by Friday. Robin at this website gave great customer service. Thumbs up from me!

Thanks you!

True, you can go into RJclassics.com and order, but the site we heard about from Palomino Morgan, www.thecollectiononlinestore.com has FREE shipping - check it out - I am very pleased with the stuff I got - I emailed for clearance information and got a coat, with a bag, at a great price. She has breeches to size 36, as well.

I am looking for a winter riding boot (tall) which boot has the biggest calf? Tried the Ariat Artic Tall Winter Riding Boot - no way.
That’s disapointing, I’d like to get some tall winter boots, and I was hoping those would be the ones! How big do you think the calf is? The newest mountain horse winter boots (Fusion?) look like they’d fit, but they’re a bit more pricey.
