Womanly-sized riders, unite!
Well, I got a call from my local saying that the distributor told them the boots were “backordered indefinitely.” Grumpily, I checked the Dover site (just received yet another catalog) and saw that they had them listed as in stock. Having been burned by Dover many times before, I called them and yes, they had one pair in that size (for $30 more than my local was going to charge me). So I’m waiting on them now.

And I feel so dirty for ordering from Dover. Ick.
Thanks for the info. I was procrastinating as usual, and this made me go online and order my size nines. Hopefully they will be available.

Well, citydog, you’ve now taken the only pair of size 11 wides, so they won’t have them for me. That’ll teach me to procrastinate! And what is with Dover – they didn’t have the Mt Horse winter boots (the regular ones, not the Fusion) with a wide calf. Honestly, I’d rather order from Dover than Equestrian Collections, but when my mother offered to buy me a pair of the winter boots, I had to tell her to get them from EC, because Dover didn’t have them with a wide calf. I hate EC. Let’s hope my boots actually show up, and don’t disappear into eternal backorder, like so many other things I"ve ordered from EC. I keep wondering if the breeches and shirt I ordered from them 3 years ago will show up one day!

Another Hurrah for Walmart! I checked out the puffy vests, and they didn’t have any I liked in my size… but they did have the Danskin fleece vests, and pants. The pants are fleece lined, and smoother on the outside, and they passed the hay test! I only found them in L & XL, but they may be available in 2x. I bought dark gray and black, and they are flattering as barn pants. Have not ridden in them yet, they are slightly flared, and have a yoga pants look to them, which makes them flattering. They were only $12.00.
I will be going back for more.
Anyone try the quilted jackets that look like barn coats? They look long, and don’t have a back vent. Wondering how they do in the saddle?

My Walmart sickness this past month has been the fitted, long-sleeved t-shirts. Some are crew neck, some are v-neck, some are stretchy. My local store has them up to size 2X. They have a lot of colors besides gray and black. They are under $10 and I have bought 7 so far. I squealed at the fuchsia color. I still need the light pink and one of the other blue shades. I can’t decide if I need one in white. It is a sickness I tell you.

Thanks for the tip Camelot!

I’m trail riding this evening and it’s getting quite chilly, so those long-sleeve T’s would be just right. Fortunately I work all of five minutes from a Super Wal-Mart…sounds like a lunch-time shopping trip is in order

FULLER FILLIES

Hey, a few pages back Suzanne from Fuller Fillies tipped us off on a few of her great items. I just found a whole bunch listed on ebay, and it looks like she has nice show coats and breeches, as well as REAL hacking jackets!! Here’s a link, and no, I am not affiliated, unfortunaltely!! Because if I was I would have a really great wardrobe… instead I’ll have to buy it like everyone else!

Just my $0.02 re the long sleeved tees. The Lane Bryant ones seem to hold up the longest, are a little softer and do not fade as much. Then Avenue. I think the WalMart ones don’t hold up as long and fade like mad.

On www.avenue.com if you sign up for coupons, you never have to spend regular price.

My hubby got me a long-sleeve tee from The Gap last year or the year before and I LOVE it! Slightly stretchy and so comfortable.

Mt. Horse Fusion boots

I just ordered a pair from my local shop! Should be in in a couple of weeks.

I feel sort of pathetic that I’m so excited about this…

Off to go write an appreciative email to the good folks at Mountain Horse.
Anyone actually get their Fusion boots yet? Mine arrived today and after a few cursory tries, I still haven’t managed to get mine over my calves. I checked and rechecked the size (and Dover’s conversion from metric to imperial) and it looks correct. Will try again when I’m more relaxed.

Lay on your back with your legs in the air, wait a minute and then pull them on. Works every time. Much easier than zippers.

Target also has the stretchy, long sleeved t-shirts that don’t shrink at all and haven’t faded one smidgen. I HATE finding a t-shirt that’s comfy and fits well only to have it draw up to my boobs after washing so I’m constantly pulling on it to cover my false pregnancy bump! Target’s aren’t tunic/sack like either so I can at least feel a bit feminine

When they put the summer short sleeve version on sale for close to nothing I bought every one they had in my size for next year:yes:

And as my dearest departed grandmother always pointed out, one looks much better with a bit of a V or scoop neck, instead of a crew neck. Less fabric acreage over the girls.

Robin at The Equestrain Collections Rocks!

Hi Everyone,

This thread is the awesome! I have been following it and finding so many great tips for equestrain gear for the not so perfectly figured rider. Anyway, I needed a hunt jacket, since I may try the hunters in AQHA, since I bought a AQHA baby. All I have is a 15 year old Miller, wool dressage jacket that I wear when I event and even at a local schooling hunter shows. Yikes!

Well, I hooked up with Robin at the Equestrian Collection and meet her at the NE Equine Affaire – she had me fitted and in a hunt coat in less that 30 secs – Woo Hoo! I was so excited, I purchased 2 of them since they were on sale. So excited to have something fit properly and not have it taken in, let out, etc.

Again – Thank You for all the tips and a Special thanks to Robin at the Equestrian collection for helping fit Womaly sized riders with D & DD cups!!!

Do those coats have velvet collars? A velvet collared coat and rust breeches and I may just feel like I am back in my element again. Although the rust would clash with the fuschia lining. Darn!

This is a great resource thread! Thanks!

Nope, no velvet, but I bet she will do them sometime as the line grows. I would do the rust, since it really wouldn’t be seen unless the vent blows open, or over fences. The prettiest rust breeches I have seen in the plus sizes are on ebay. they are Lakeshire brand, and a deep rust, not the washed out orangy rust that some makers had. I forgot the name of the seller, but look in ebay stores for rust breeches, and they should come up.

Lying on my back does seem promising, but can’t get them over my insteps without them unzipped all the way. They also zip on the side which I find awkward. I’ll have to try a zipper pull or something.

OH OH…okay…tell me about the side zips, since you seem to share the same foot figure flaw that I do…

Have you tried zips up the back vs. side zips? If so, could you say why you like one better than the other?

(I’m getting ready to order new customs, and I can’t decide where to zip)

I bought a nice just-right weight quilted vest at my local Ross store tonight for all of $7.99. It has stretchy fleece side panels and fits very nicely. The maker is Carolyn Taylor and they were available in sizes 1X - 3X in black and red. There were also a variety of fleece vests there for right around that price.

Hi, Honeydoozey,

I much prefer the back zips in my regular boots. I have the Equitector boots from the UK, which have an elastic panel on both sides of the zipper. To get them on initially, you put the leg you want to zip up in front of your other leg and turn the toe slightly out. Now, they’re well broken in so I can just pull them on or zip them up by leaning back.

I think the problem with the Mountain Horse boots is not only the outside side zips, which make it harder to get to the bottom of the zipper since you have to reach down and to the side but also that they are very inflexible in the ankle (hardish plastic that reminds me of downhill ski boots).

Interestingly, the Equitector sizing, while officially running smaller than the range that Mountain Horse suggests, is much more generous, maybe because of the double elastic and the leather that stretches. They cost less than custom boots but the shipping and duties were a doozy.

I have a very high instep too, so once the boots are 99% on, then I stand up and push down into that last bit.

Of course, I always use the zips when removing them, but getting them on is such a PITA that I just lay on my back with the boot puills. Or did, that is, until they were broken in a bit.
