Womanly-sized riders, unite!

I did one better at Wal-Mart. Go to the men’s section and look at their long-sleeve plain T’s…$5.84! And the nicest thing about the men’s is they’re longer than the women’s…(aka: butt coverage). Bought two

You must mean Robin from “The Collection” - she was at Equine Affaire, Buy One Get One Sale?? That was the www.thecollectiononlinestore.com lady. I am only buying stuff from her from now on, and frankly the Equestrian Collection doesn’t have sizes for me - I went crazy at Equine affaire, for less than $300, I got two coats and three shirts and some stock pins for gifts - love her.

The Fusion boots are going back.

The zipper on the right one is really balky down at the bottom, and I think they really overestimated the calf widths. These should actually have been a little too wide for me. They most certainly are not. Can’t zip them all the way up (and no loops inside for boot pulls). I do like the way they look, though, and the foot part is extremely comfy (I’m considering the paddocks).

Bummer. :frowning:

Sorry to hear about the Fusion boots-- they look so nice. I just got the Mountain Horse regular winter boots today (I forget what they are called). The calf fits really well, and the foot feels comfy. When it gets colder, I’ll see if they really are warm (my feet get really cold, so I have my doubts, but hopefully they will be better than regular boots in the winter).

Yep, describes it to a T, including the balky right zipper. The described calf width doesn’t make any sense to me, either. I did the conversion from the sizes in centimetres on the Mountain Horse tag to the Imperial equivalent on the Dover website and the calculations are correct. I wonder if they overestimated the fit or if it is a manufacturing error. To me, they don’t fit any differently than the old style.

In short, I’ve decided mine are going back, too, and I’ll put the money into another pair of Equitectors so I can use my current ones for schooling and keep the new ones for shows. Maybe an email to Mountain Horse and Dover is in order.

I rode in my Mountain Horse winter boots for the first time today (Rimfrost Rider? Not the Ice Rider or the Fusion). I was suprised at how well they fit – nice and roomy in the foot and in the calf (and I have a BIG foot and a WIDE calf), and they didn’t feel as bulky as I thought they would. Now I want the paddock boots. . . . . .

Another WallyWorld alert ladies… those vests have a ‘matching’ jacket out now for $10/12. The cut is just above the hip, (but not TOO short! ) and nicely tailored. The tailoring/quilting/fit is the same as the vest. Sleeves run long, and very cute stand up collar, curves slightly down in the back.

It is not super warm like down, but IMO a really snazzy, somewhat dressy medium-to-heavy warmth jacket. It’s not bulky and is really cute. Same colours. (Plum, navy, green, black, brown, winter white and… erm… red? A tomato-y red)

TEN BUCKS. I got one for wearing to work (I end up wearing the down barn jackets usually… :dead: ) and am going to have to get another for winter lessons.

VERY sad to hear about the Fusion boots. :frowning:

I am thinking I’m going to have to settle for paddocks. I want tall boots that are warm in the foot and fit in the calf. (And the CALF doesn’t need huge insulation–get with it people, you’re wearing breeks and long johns etc. underneath the CALF–it’s the FOOT… )

I haven’t had this particular problem, but my boots are about a half-size large on me. I went that way to accommodate any extra footchub. So my toes don’t quite sit all the way into the toe box, and aren’t really pinched by any leather folds.

Rode in them for the second time tonight and am pretty pleased with how quickly they’re breaking in. Yesterday was a chore, and the first half hour tonight was a little rough, but it was pretty comfy by the end.[/QUOTE]
I would like to give an update on these boots (Ariat knock-offs from TOTD): They have broken in pretty well and I wear them all the time now!

Which boots are you talking about, Twnkltoz?

Yes, please tell us–I want to know, too!

And which Mountain Horse boots are you talking about, ThreeHorseNight? One of the boarders at our barn has some Mountain Horse tall boots–they look a bit bulkier than “regular” tall boots but nevertheless they look very nice. If yours are the same as hers, I might see about getting pair myself!

The Ariat knock-off boots that TOTD sells from time to time.

Guess what? I get my year-end bonus next week, and I am GOING to buy boots!! Now to find the right ones…

How’s everyone doing with their Hispars?

I’ve got two pairs of Mountain Horse boots. I’ve got the Mountain High Rider II, which is a tall leather boot with a zipper and gusset. They are chunkier than normal dress boots, and at first it was hard to feel anything through them, but they are breaking in nicely now. They fit my big calves and the toe on them is nice and roomy (most boots rub my little toe).

There is also a Mountain Horse Sportive High Rider II, which, in the catalog looks similar but maybe less chunky. I chose the High Rider because according to the size chart, it has a little wider calf.

The winter boots I have are the Rimfrost Rider II. They are pretty chunky looking, but don’t feel that chunky when you put them on. I haven’t worn them in really cold weather yet, but several people have told me that there Mountain Horse boots really keep their feet warm.

What I like about both pairs of boots is that they are pretty comfortable to walk around in. The sole is thick rubber, so it’s not like you’re walking around on a hard leather sole.

Here’s the part of their website that has the boots on it:

Thanks, ThreeHorseNight! Those sound just like the Mountain Horse boots I looked at today at the barn–both styles. I think the High Rider ones you describe are the ones I like best that I’ve seen–they look more like they’d fit my calves, and I need something comfortable for walking as well as riding.

 Err … yes, but what brand are these knock-offs? And what is TOTD? Tack Of The Day? Toes Out To Dismount? Trot Off Towards Denver?

Yes, Tack of the Day. I have a friend who bought the Ariat knock offs and is not too happy with them, but she’s only worn them a few times. I don’t think anybody knows what brand those boots are! My friend says there is no name in them.

They don’t have a brand. I believe TOTD had them made by someone who supposedly makes the same model for a big-name boot company.

Oops, I’m posting under my husband’s name!

I love my pair of Mountain Horse boots, but the one thing I will say that I hate about them is that none of their boots seem to come with spur rests. I try to get my spurs on tight and correctly, but no matter what I do I always seem to have problems with slippage. :sigh:

Hmmm, my Mountain High Rider boots have spur rests. I know because I’ve been using them with my spurs, and the spur rests are really nice (the spurs sit in the right place). I can’t remember if my Rimfrost Rider boots have spur rests, but I know I rode with them with my spurs on them the other day. Hmmm…

I’m so jealous. Last summer, I bought the Sportive High Riders, and they have no spur rest. At the time, it wasn’t really a big deal, because I don’t ride my mare with spurs, however, when I take lessons on my instructor’s horse, I DEFINITELY need them. The first time I put on my new spurs, I realized that it was a bit of problem! If I remember correctly, the newer Classic High Rider dress boots (which I was considering getting), don’t have them either.
