Womanly-sized riders, unite!
No, the Equissentials are not like TS or any other breech. The Equissentials are more like tights (they really are tights, although they can make them with belt loops and zipper and snap). The Equissentials don’t hang loose anywhere on your body, and the material is a stretchy material with a lot of give. If you truly want a traditional look, they probably are not what you want.
The last thing I need is another pair of clingy tights sitting in my closet. My butt is big enough on it’s own. I am trying to get a hold of VTO (maybe I’ll wait till January) about their custom TS looking breeches. I’ll give those a try. I also came across these from Horse-Rider-Etc. They’re only $75, so probably worth a try.

Here’s my question - a pair of breeches that will fit my womanly-sized body AND my 36" inseam. Suggestions?

Tullyleague, have you tried the Cotton Comforts in a Shapely/Long?

The most TS-like breeches I’ve found in my size are summer ones, the Tuff Rider AeroCool ones they have at equestriancollections.com. They even come in hunter pukey-green-beige! With long undies underneath, they’d be fine for moderately chilly weather too, I think.

Oh I totally scored at Target with the rubber boots!!! I just went in to look at the colors and give my daughter instructions for my husband.

What did I find? Tons and tons of the black with white polka dots… and there, up on the top shelf, 1 lonely box… I pull it down and what do I find inside? A PAIR OF PINK PLAID BOOTS! I contained my squeel… I peeked at the side of the box and it said MY SIZE!

Oh the squeek is a bubbling out at this point, totally embarrassing my 14 yr old daughter!

I noticed there are two pairs of these http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Millers-Side-Zip-Riding-Pants-Breeches-42R-lt-tan_W0QQitemZ140192273455QQihZ004QQcategoryZ3155QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem listed.

Does anyone have the Aigle Equisnow II? I feel like they were mentioned at some point, but I couldn’t find it, so maybe I’m mental. It says they fit “all calves” which made me chuckle. They look like a comfy (but bulky) cold weather boot. http://www.aigleboots.com/product.php?p=Horseback (scroll down to the bottom)

Coreene, you have a PM.

Both gone now. I’ll let you guys know the next time I have Womanly Sized Freebies!

Ugh, I just finished my first pair of homemade polartec riding tights. I forgot to cut the waist higher when I made the legs bigger than the highest pattern size, so I had to stick on an extra piece. Then, something happened with the legs because they came out all uneven at the bottom and when I straightened them out, they ended up kind of short. The only saving grace is that the knee patches came out just right! OMG I don’t know if I even want to wear them!!!

sorry, twnk, but I’m giggling at the sight of your breeches. At least you tried. The one time I tried to sew anything (in Home Ec, over thirty years ago), it came out kind of like that, and I never ever tried again. Although it would be really nifty to make winter breeches, because I’d like to have several pairs of them.

Thanks. I have plenty of fleece left to try again! They would have been fine if I’d remembered to cut them extra long! the width was perfect.

Good luck with your breeches. Next thing you will be selling your breeches to all the major tack shops and we will be commenting on how great they are and how we won’t ride in anything else!

I have something very sad to report:

You know the Brit Rider boots? The riding version of the Muck Boot?

They’re horrible.

I got some right before Christmas when I was sick of being in agony every time I hopped off the 17hh TB in my non-insulated paddock boots. I was so very excited to find that they were totally warm and comfy. I made sure to flex my ankle as if putting my heel down when I tried them on, and all seemed to be well.

Then I got on a horse in them, and holy crap! Not only did they dig into the front of my ankle (guess I put my heel down more than I had thought? Which I suppose is good, really), but they SQUEAK! EVERY! STRIDE! on the saddle flap. Yikes. I’m lucky I didn’t get bucked off. I know my leg isn’t always perfectly still, but we’re talking…these things squeaked loudly at a walk.

That said, Smartpak took them back even though they had obviously been worn, so bonus points for Smartpak. They’ll go in the clearance section, where someone will get a fabulous bargain (until they get them home and figure out why they were on clearance). I considered keeping them as dress boots to wear with skirts on slushy days, but couldn’t justify keeping a pair of $92 boots (they’re regularly $114 at Smartpak but I had a 20% off coupon) that I’d wear twice a year.

And totally unrelatedly, while I was there I bought one of those outdoor dog beds (kind of like a cot, to keep the mutts off the cold/hot/wet ground) from the clearance section. Inside was a note from the person who’d returned it, saying the fabric wasn’t big enough for the frame and that three people hadn’t been able to pull it enough to get it stretched onto the frame. We’re still scratching our heads, because it went together fine for us, but hey, I’m not complaining since I think I spent like ten bucks for it. That said, my dumb dogs haven’t figured out what it’s for yet, but hey, maybe they’ll get there…

Check out this jacket

I keep telling myself I don’t need it, since the Happy Valley riding jacket - similar to this one but light brown - that I found while cleaning my closets last week now fits. And I do not need two of these, but damn I am tempted:

Ebay hunt coat

Recently ebay had some RJ Classics Prestige green hunt coats from Equus Now in a large range of sizes including a 24. I won the auction and with shipping it cost me $27 for the coat. I was worried because I had such a hard time finding a coat that fit (big shoulders and bust, small hips)that when it came and I put it on and it fit perfectly (ok theres no wiggle room) I just about cried. The color is nice its a very dark foresty-hunter that will look nice on my chestnut mare. A whole new world is open now! I can buy hunt coats in a rainbow of colors!!! Whew I have got to calm down…

Now I need a new show shirt the two I have were new hand me downs in a lavender and a brick rust color which looked ok with the navy coat. I’m thinking of just going with white. When I wear the lavender with the navy coat I look all head and shoulders no neck, so I’m thinking white may elongate me between the chin and the chest.

I’d appreciate any help in the this color goes with that color and makes you look thinner and younger (yea right;) hunter fashion tips anyone has.

Thanks ahead of time

Pam

Criss- Sorry to hear about your boots…I hate squeaky boots! I bought my dog a really nice bed and she refuses to sleep on it, so now the cat has a really nice dog bed. Ha

ok so someone emailed me almost a yr ago in regards to tall boots for larger calves. Of course I trashed it and I havent needed any since my new guy is super green but Id like to think I will need them by summer  could someone help me?!

I love my Brit Riders. Sorry they were not for you :frowning: I have a leather saddle though - is yours synthetic? In the past I have experienced super squeaking with the rubber boots/Wintec combo.

Immigene-
With that hunter green coat, depending on your coloring, think about cream, pale yellow, peach, or pale pink for your ratcatcher blouse. Whichever is most flattering to your complexion - cause they will all look grand on a chestnut!

Immigene, no, it’s a leather saddle. The squeaking was so loud I’m certain it could be heard in the barn aisle when I was on the far side of the indoor. I would still have tried to decrease the squeak somehow (gooping up the inside of the calf with saddle soap or something), but I was in so much pain when I tried to put my heel down that it really didn’t seem worth it.

I’m going to order some of the new Tuffrider synthetic insulated paddock boots, because their paddock boots have fit me in the past. I’m just lucky it’s been warm lately.
