Just to let you know, I got an email from www.thecollectiononlinestore.com and if you go to the site and email them, you will get the sale info - two fabrics in coats clearing for $75, yes, in plus sizes! She also got me size 42 breeches, not on her site, but if you email, she will get the info to you and ship them, and I love the free shipping, just to let you Pintopiaffe, I have received info on this site from you - just sharing!
I got my ProChaps half chaps from Barrington Saddlery in Illinois – http://www.barringtonsaddlery.com/
I’m sure you could order some through them and have them shipped.
I just LOVE mine!!!
Ouch, Immigene! I hope you mend quickly.
I take it you are talking about the “Chronicle of My Horse” thing…which I have yet to figure out. It seems like a lot of work. But maybe, in my copious free time…
So watch me do a great big Happy Dance - my most favorite Dutch tack store has opened another superstore, and it is only 12 miles from where I am staying in Holland in April.
On Saturday, I went to the local tack store, was looking for breeches and not really expecting to find anything I like. Lucky for me, I came across the breeches that other people on here raved about: the Harry Hall Crown breeches. And the best part? They are BLUE CHECKED/PLAID!!! I absolutely love the fit and I am hoping to get a pair in the beige/tan for show season and am praying that with the lighter color, they don’t reveal too much. Oh, yeah…they were on sale, too, and cost about $52.
I’m bumping this because I probably asked it an inopportune time originally, but does anyone have any suggestions about what show helmets are the coolest in summer?
I ride dressage, need a new velvet or fake velvet show helmet and I don’t want to pay for a GPA, although I’d spring for a Charles Owen if it really were cooler. I’d prefer an actual size (i.e., 7) rather than one of those dial-fit systems (S, M and L). I’m particularly interested in what you have to say about IRHs because I have no experience with those.
My rationale for asking it on this thread is that “womanly sized” riders will understand that we are more likely to perspire…
On a completely different topic, someone way back said they thought that it would be healthier for breast tissue not to bounce. Just wanted to mention that a friend of mine believes the opposite is true and jumps up and down braless on a mini trampoline every day because she thinks it will make her less prone to breast cancer (better draining of toxins from the lymph nodes, etc.) If she’s right, riders, particularly those that sit the trot, definitely have an advantage.:lol::lol:
I have a 7 3/8 new velvet Charles Owen that I have to put on eBay because I bought it in hopes that it would fit, but it does not. Sad, because I think their velvet helmets are gorgeous. So I wear a Troxel Grand Prix, since that one does them by sizes and not S, M and L. Not cool at all, but I do not think there are any cool velvet ones. So usually I am in the Troxel plastic one with air holes. But black, of course. I think it looks like a whacked biker helmet, but better than a nekkid head.
Hi, Coreene,
Thanks for the info. A Grand Prix is what I’m figuring, though I’m going to have a look at the IRH helmets. My old show helmet is a Troxel and had slits along the sides, but didn’t fit very well (had the dial-fit thingy). In any case, I don’t think they make that model anymore.
I may have to put a cooling pack in the top or something else along those lines.
It was 10 degrees out last night when I rode and my head still sweats. I don’t know why that is… but I ride in a Lamicell Pro helmet. I tried the Troxel Grand Prix and the more casual plastic one the Coreene mentioned… I’m most comfy in the Lamicell.
Here’s where I got it: http://www.horseloverz.com/Lamicell-Pro-Limited-Riding-Helmet-pr-189003.html
Same for me–I’m always the most overheated in any group even if I’m huffing and puffing much less than the others. My face gets really red, really fast. I just think I have an inefficient cooling system in my head. My sister, who’s a skinny minny bordering on anorexic and super fit, is the same.
Which is why I love my Tipperary. But not for showing in.
New to this thread So I’m with a lot of you ladies with the whole field boot situation. I’m not that big, but I in no way can fit into 95% of the tall boots in any of the catalogs. Tiny 7 or 7.5 size foot, and a 16" calf. The only boot I could find was a Devonaire…which I settled with, even though it is crap. It’s comfy and all, I have no complaints about that…it’s just the quality. My previous boot was an ovation, I had to sacrifice foot size for calf size. This meant getting a size 9…terrible. So I have been on the never ending search for boots. And have come across this…

Too good to be true? Has anyone ordered from them in the past? I would really hate to have to go and spend double or even triple that price on a pair of boots. Mainly because I’m not sure I even have that much money in the bank.
Wow – that’s a good deal if they’re any good. I just got custom boots from a company in Ecuador. They had a rep at our state fair in the fall and they looked like very nice boots. It took forever to get them (ok, about as long as Vogels) but they
really do fit well and look nice. It’s been so cold I haven’t ridden in them yet though.
I’m toying with saving them for show and having my old boots repaired for day to day riding, though I’ve been riding in half chaps since they broke. Which reminds me, I should get some decent half chaps too…
I’m looking for some breeches with the following qualities…plus sized, comfy, full seat, and hopefully affordable. I ride mainly western, but want a pant that will be good for schooling and trail riding (my Simco has a VERY slick seat!). I love my Millers full seat (got them at VTO a few years ago) but they are a HEAVY fabric and hot, and the side zip is a pain to do up.
Also…does anybody remember the name of the company that had half chaps for larger calves (heifers )? They had a REAL range and sometimes sell on Ebay, but danged if I can remember! I remember their website even had some reflective ones with chevrons in regular sizes, if that helps.
Love some suggestions, everyone!
Dee
Thanks ChocoMare! That’s the one!
Am heading toward a landmark birthday, and think I need to order some to brighten my spirits a bit (or at least to mark the occasion!)!
Dee
Hey Dee! I love my On Course Shapely breeches. They are not too $$ and if you are hourglass, they fit really well. They have them in the Dover catalog and you can get them on eBay a lot as well.
And another vote for the Arete Saddlery half chaps; I have two pair and love them.

I have the IRH ATH helmet and it is definitley cooler than my older velvet troxel, but of course not as cool as the breezy tipperary. And it doesn’t have any annoying dialy nonsense.
Dee, the fullseats Coreene recommends are nice, and Equestrian Collections has some cotton fullseats I like, though I think they only come in tan and black. The shapely breeches have an inordinately long rise, and also only come in tan, black, and white, though.
My favorite fullseats are the Irideon Cadence stretch cords, which are not cheap but much more durable than cotton, IME. They are pull-on, but they have belt loops. They also come in a dark navy (“indigo”) that I really like. I find them fine for warm weather, though to tell the truth lately I haven’t worn fullseats successfully in the summer because it’s too damn humid here, and I don’t like being superglued in place. I do wear the same breeches in the knee patch version in the summer without dying of heat, though.
HISPAR ? Again!
on ridersmall.com it seems as though you can get them without a zipper in the back. Im thinking of doing that because I HATE the look of the zipper.
Anyone have them w/o the zipper? Im kind of wondering if they really come without the zipper?
thanks!
Ok Ladies, an Enell dilemma I’m hoping you can help with!!!
I wore an Enell size 3. Girls were tightly smashed and doing lovely. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. The 3 is too big–except that the ribband is still really fairly snug. I don’t think I can really go down a size in the ribs yet… but the top is much more ‘roomy’ than it was?
Last lesson I wore my regular underwire under the Enell, and that worked–but the whole point of a $50 bra is NOT to have to wear 2 of them.
2nd question: has anyone tried any of the Champion bras that are supposedly for high impact? I was eyeballing one, actually for work and day-to-day stuff. The more weight I loose, the more apparant it is that I can tuck them into my waistband. :dead:
